@therealshugjr its funny that you say his playing is just "good" and needs more soul considering Robin is one of the most saught after R&B session drummers and was recruited by Prince at age 14 to play on the Bangles record "Walk like an Egyptian" and "Manic Monday" he also played the beat for Soul to Soul "Back to Life" and played the beat for Snoops "Gin and Juice".
@therealshugjr dude...what are you, 12?? The guy has played on some of the most popular songs and has played and originated some of the most popular and sampled beats over the last 25 years....fact is fact
RM = good player. Boring? No, it's called "pocket-grooving" with "rhythm(s)," or "funky" rhythmic sticking patterns, which is anything but, & no doubt influenced by Gadd, & perhaps also Garibaldi, Mike Clark, Steve Jordan, Marottas, Erskine, Harvey Mason, & others no less. Come n git u sum. Just the fact he's playing next to his Gadness Gadzilla-godd, tells you all u need to know, yo.
That said by DC & Weck, too more monster world-class heavies & probably 2 of the only small crowd that can even keep up with VC. & Vinnie is a much-sought after session & road monster world-class player in demand by most jazz, fusion, rock, & pop artists, he's all over recordings of each & most styles. So that statement = un-factually opinionated rubbish.
Watch Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship Concert 2 '89 vid b4 u comment, especially the ending where even Dennis Chambers admitted to Weckl & others "we got schooled by Vinnie here today," then see where u stand, if ur not too busy locating your mandible. Not many players on the planet can play the stuff he plays @ the end there & that was 21 yrs. ago now. Sheer Venusian phrasing & technical brilliance.
"VInnie = overrated as most popular drummers." -No offense, but = utter BS. Vinnie, 1 of if not THE most innovative & uniquely original drummers on the planet in history EVAR. When he takes off the governor, look the H out, you'll be left rode hard & cast away wet.
thats a tasty groove bro. not incredibly hight tech but effective. and there is obviously a reason why he is the one getting the calls to do the sessions. solid time and nice feel.
It's interesting to see how the playing of Gadd and Colaiuta influence people. Most of what he played came straight out some gadd grooves I've heard before. If you go and listen to Chick Corea from the blue note in 92. Vinnie played a lot of stuff like this. Not to mention what Dennis Chambers did with parlament. I love Robins playing and his feel but it is a bit deceiving to say that timbaland was the creator of this feel wouldn't you say?
I look forward to the dvd and more of his playing.
VInnie is massively overtratted just like most popular drummers. they played for big names before so we will ring them. well what about the hungry drummers like you and me. who arent tired by the respect and appreciation.
i saw Vinne play with beck for example an he played some drum an bass and it was the exact same off beat break that everyone plays and then think themselves drum and bass drummers. disappointing vinnie when you consider how great the drums are.
@abigredrock ... you know , I thought Vinnie was pretty average with Jeff Beck as well ... obviously he had his moments where he did the Vinnie stuff , but I thought his shuffles were pretty average sounding
this guy's a douchebag!!

The playing is good, could have more soul... but overall, most drummers today struggle having even this much groove.
Besides that, the fact that he doesn't use his pinky drives me nuts, lol.

Sorry your majesty.
He's awesome. I just like Benny Greb's groove better.
Can you throw away your tampon now?

I just gave him props, dude. He's obviously a great drummer. I just think Greb is more soulful.
PERSONALLY, I like him better.
Get over it.
This is a stupid conversation, and I'm done with it.
