this music sounds like an imaginary place that exists in my head... like if west africa and some swamp in louisiana were in the same place at the same time
i know the guy who plays the djimbe in this band he taught me a few things he studied in africa for a long time these guys deserve a lot more fame than they are given
I thought that might be the case when I first came across them. But for the past decade, they've spent a good bit of time each year in Mali and other West African countries studying with, and performing with, African musicians. If it's okay with guys who used to play with Ali Farka Toure, it's okay with me.
@nickt1y you are a nutter. if one shud stop using somebody else's the world wudnt move. Be positive and appreciate if u dont move to another thing. Am an african, discovered them a week ago and am madly in love. Will buy their everything, wish they come to the UK.
@nickt1y musical imperialism would be making YOU play western music - like classical - using your own instruments, or like in China where they taught Chinese in the 1800s to play classical music for their own benefit. Don't be so biased one way or the other, you'll miss the beauty of life.
just saw the article in nat. geo about these guys had to check it out for myself-Great , these guys are good !

Looks like musical imperialism to me. White boys take black boys instruments and use them to make a mashup.

This tune really reminds me of smokestack Lightning from the Grateful Dead. Until 3:18 that is.
