Cool, I did this as a level 19 (leveled up by fighting shy guys in front of the castle, it's actually better than the star trick if you have an emulator that allows turbo mode. =) )

People were coming back with Geno and better weapons and such and they still couldn't do it, at least I beat them. And I'm pretty sure I'm the only response still on the video.

I think you used the croco star trick, but that is just outstanding.

That's when you save in Bandit's way then die. You'll come back to that save point and the star will still be in the ? box provided that you didn't save after hitting it.

BTW, your experience pts. will be saved so you can do this over and over. Very useful at any location with a starman.

Oh that, nah. I stood in front of the Castle in the Mushroom Kingdom before you fight the boss for the First Star. Took awhile.

I like beating the entire game without saving, then losing to smithy. Which means you start over at level 25+ XD

actually it's easy with the magic of virtual console quicksaves. That means you don't need to play for 12 hours without quitting. And every time you die, you just start out stronger.

However, only characters in the party keep levels, so it's best to save until you get Geno. That way mario isn't the only strong one.

The confused enemy kind of saves you, and the shy guy running away, makes it bit easier.

Well, I sat there, for like an hour, power leveling on shy guy's in the mushroom kingdom when they constantly respawned out of the door.
