his STYLE everyone thinks so highly of was coused not by any type of REAL creativity, but by POVERTY and his addiction to HEROIN. listen to the person, he is like permanently on a LSD trip. dont get me wrong, i love the dude, and his writeing is excellent. but i have begun to see my own mental defects , analyze how they were formed , so on and so forth. all i truely know is the human condition , all of us , is FUCKED.
@TBOMBURBOOTY That's a very incredible statement you're making. I wonder if you've taken the time to learn that Richard Hell has published several books and put out an album since his 'addiction to HEROIN'. Hell really came out a lot better than a lot of people from his scene, even those that are still alive today. You don't sound very intelligent or well spoken so I'm not surprised by the fact that you speak without thinking or knowing anything.

I disagree with him on many things, especially his equation of youth=sexual attractiveness=beauty. I think he's very narrow-minded. What does anyone in a butt-fugly suit like that know about beauty?
This guy had a kid who went to the same summer art-camp as my kid (we're both mid-fifties) a couple years ago. I would see him drop the kid off with the camp trunk etc, and do a double-take "Hey, that Dad is Richard Hell!" My kid thought I was nuts.
Sorry MM, I don't know the specs on his kid, but my own kid referenced above is now 21, so RH's could be roughly the same. Full disclosure RH was always there with a woman, so it could very well have been her child. Christopher Guest and Jamie Lee Curtis' daughter Annie, and Kevin Bacon's kid Travis were also at that camp at the time (there's your Six Degrees of Separation from Kevin Bacon of the day)...It's Bucks Rock Arts Camp in CT, a very cool arts and music place for kids and teens.
That's an odd question. You should look at the rundown of his recent activities at the Updates page on his Official Site. He's a professional writer who also has gallery shows of art and makes some public appearances. He's also had two CD's out in the 21st century (TIME and SPURTS), and collects royalties on a back catalog of music. I think he gave up pimping when he got married.
Thanks. I'll check his work out. I smell a Mickey Rourke type comeback. He should get his band back together or get an acting agent. And a better tailor. Ha.
Everybody should go see The Connection at the Living Theater on Clinton between Stanton and Houston next door to the Cocoa Bar. It's an amazing legendary play, very well acted. Judith Malina's company since the late 40s. I had such an amazing time

Hell was the fashion statement back in the day. He wore the coolest clothes, had a great haircut and sported the best shades. He was the best looking guy around. Where would Kenneth Cole and a million stylists be today if not for him. That jacket looks like something Zero Mostel would wear in The Producers. I guess the reflection in the pool is troubling to him.
Yes, definitely! His clothes were cutting-edge, even all of today's "Vogue" mags owe so much to his stylings... and he certainly was amazingly handsome and charismatic!
Richard Hell is the unsung hero of Punk! And this candid and beautiful monologue shows that at late 50s he is still Punk - if one defines Punk as an attitude to life rather than fashion.
He is a boring poet, novelist, monologist and actor. His calling is as a rock and roll singer and songwriter. Just compare the tripe he is spewing here with what he said in "Time". There should have been more than two Richard Hell and the Voidoids albums.
A Rock n roll lifestyle wasn't the type lifestyle he wanted. Let him do with his life as he wants, if he doesn't wanna make music, forcing himself too wouldn't have been pretty. IE, Destiny Street.
He stated recently that he's working on a new project back in the studio anyway ... but I agree, we should be thankful for what he left us and not ask for anymore, although we need it and although we always get something from him anyway!
Two thumbs down (both mine!) Genius or not, Richard, in this video you are a complete and total BORE! And it has nothing whatsoever to do with your age. You'd have been well advised to have hired a script-writer. But then you'd have had to act. Oh, well...
Doesn't look 56 - but get rid of that tacky suit! An average looking person can become more attractive if they are interesting, and a beautiful person can loose their appeal if they're a bitch.
Much as I like Richard, his analysis of beauty is shallow.
Who says only small noses are beautiful? If only young people are interesting to view as talking heads then why do people go to see movies starring actors like Tommy Lee Jones, Sofia Loren and Helen Mirren? Who say they aren't "sexy?" Watch some You Tube videos of Aldous Huxley being interviewed. This old man is alot more interesting to watch than Keanu Reeves or Matt Damon.
Richard Hell is a genius, make no mistake. He did some great music & he's a very good writer. He invented the whole idea of Punk as we know it & I don't think he ever got the recognition he deserves. Thanks for uploading this man, well done!
America is youth obsessed and Richard has been conditioned by it and buys into it. He negates the idea that a 56 year old is uninteresting in his own video thus contraditing his own message.

anyone who has ANYTHING negative to say about this needs to seriously rethink their own complete lack of interest.
obviously you just dont get what hes saying. which is your loss, not his.
these monologues are in-depth insights of his own train of thought. and they actually helped me think about death in a new light.
regardless of whether or not YOU want him to be runnin' around like your own pet performing monkey.
