@mrpiehole On road - absolutely. On trails, these kind of bikes would be asbolutely useless. Downhill, fixed gear is nuts, you'll be overtaking cars.

@mrpiehole A lot of these bikes are custom, but you can buy fixed gear/single speed bikes from most major bike manufacturers. Look up the Kona Paddy Wagon.

He is a tremendous role model for many and although he is technically responsible for only himself, he influences many and he is probably well aware of that. Whether it be a conscious decision or not, I believe that people are actually affected by whether or not their role model takes precautions such as wearing a helmet.

But, thanks to my helmet (in a perfectly safe riding scenario, by the way), I am breathing and still riding today.

What i meant was that if you put any of these guys on a road bike they would most likely keep up. i don't know why but a lot of people on road bikes think their superior because they chose a better tool for the job. For example i do laps at my local park on my road bike and my fixed. i normally see a group of guys riding roadies i can barely keep up on my fixed gear but on my road bike i leave them in the dust. Climbing on a 49/17 helps!

I love it when people dog on fixies, but let's be honest, the safest way to ride in traffic, regardless of bike, is to ride as fast as possible with the flow of traffic, which is clearly what these guys are doing.
