  • Oh, hell. So many people just prefer white, finding it prettier. It is not a crime.

  • Its true that beautiful people can be successful easily in some walks of life. But to relate fairness to beauty is wrong. This is a mindset in third world developing countries like India and will change with education, development, globalisation and exposure to people from other countries. Fairness is due to an absence of white colored melanin pigment in the skin. It protects the skin against UV rays from sun. Fair people get wrinkles quickly as they age since they have no protection.

  • Fair and lovely is completely disgusting. I remember seeing a commercial a few years ago in which a girl took a photo with a guy, the guy TORE UP the photo because she was "too dark," the girl then became fair and WENT BACK TO THE GUY. How incredibly degrading.

It especially makes me angry that celebrities, the people the public looks up to, agree to act in these commercials.

  • ....but our blood is red :-)...

content is important...thinking without heart is inhuman!

it is possible to be `white´ outside, but dark ( heart/mind ) inside...and being coloured also doesn´t prevent someone to be not stupid at all...

  • so a women needs to have fair skiin to be succesful in life

apparently these people have never heard of Oprah

  • so disgusting...we Indians needs to start embracing our beautiful brown skin tones and stop using all these fairness creams...wake up my fellow desis!!! Brown is Beautiful!!!

  • I think it's good for women who want to do it, but why should it be racist. I think that it exist also self-tanning and sun parlor, is this then not also racist against whites?

  • This video is retarded. The woman in the video is even paler than Genelia (the girl in the commerical) is in real life.

  • In America they tan In Asia they bleach, everbody wants what they can't have...sigh

  • this women in video is stupid

  • Don't bother wasting ur time trying to move that mountain...and by the way its not that they dont love there skin,,,,they just trying to make it.

    shalom

  • people freaking out about dove please keep in mind that dove is just a company.

they try to make money by what the customer wants.

in my country they sell products to tan your skin and there they sell products to whiten their skin.

and ALL over the world women want to feel pretty so they run the self esteem campaign.

they just sell whatever makes the person happy

  • Everyone should love they skin color

We shouldnt say something to down other people about they skintone

Dark skin is beautiful & other skin tones as well.

  • Dark is beautiful but here in America you have to survive by making sacrifices to prosper and have better jobs.you can not get the executive job with out having lighter skin ......No matter how many degrees and work experience u have....it is harder to get indoor jobs....Thats just the way life is and no one can change it but God.These people are just trying to make a better living that's all.

  • when i saw the commercial in media class, i was shocked when i found out it was from Dove. werent they the ones holding the self esteem for women thing??

  • Good job

    love u

  • agreed.

  • It's all about indicators for wealth. In primitive countries where manual labour is common among the poor, dark skin was a pretty sure sign that you were poor, and fair skin was a sign of wealth. The opposite is true in more advanced countries like America - tanned skin is seen as a symbol for having the wealth and the free time to get a tan. Pale skin looks better with a tan in my opinion. Naturally dark skin gets a kind of gross green colour without enough sun, a tan just looks healthy.

  • "Primitive?" Well, throughout Europe and the US, the same idea about outdoor/manual and complexion labour held true until 1923 when French designer Coco Channel was seen sporting a tan, and it then became a Western craze. In the US during the great waves of immigration in the late 1800's to early 1900's, the fairer Anglo-Americans initially despised the southern Europeans and darker Jews because of their complexions. The shift in attutides you describe is fairly recent.

  • I think that the way these things work is probably pretty universal: any trait that rich people or celebrities have is seen as 'desirable'. More importantly, any trait which poor and 'uncool' people have is seen as undesirable. Don't you see a relationship here? People will adopt any marker of wealth and success that sets them apart from those who lack the time, money or desire to change their appearance.

I think that as we get a more complex interconnected culture, this matters less and less.

  • are you stupid talking about dark skin gets a kind of gross green colour without enough sun i am damn black and living in canada where i dont get enough sun and my skin does not Naturally get a gross green colour ass hole and u Indians NEWS FLASH YOU ARE DAMN BLACK

  • Wow, I guess I have to qualify every statement: I was generalising, and as is always the case with humans, there are exceptions. A great many dark people get a slight green tinge in their skin when they avoid the sun. My mother being one of them. With a tan, the base skin tone becomes orange/red rather than green.

Also, you just generalised here - many Indians are naturally fair. But, as I have a mind, I can take your comment in context.

  • Really?

    Are Indians black.?

  • Some indians are fair skin and dark skin i can say they same thing for blacks but do we call our self the BROWN PEOPLE nooooooooooo, only the stupid ones who want to think they are different and better because they have there SLAVE MASTERS skin complexion these people are a mix betweeen both race they cant claim white because they dont want them so they come up with we are the brown people and thinking they are better than BLACKS and praise the white man who has done more harm than good

  • true but i think that white ppl classified every1 into groups of colors like white brown black and yellow, although ppl from the same race can have light or dark skin...

  • @jamaicansunshine

Shut up you damn black jamaican

  • @pig560 yes pussy i know i am Jamaican and Black and PROUD YES PROUD and i bet a pussy like you be using that cream to get lighter.... and if you didnt have anything to had to this whole topic why did you leave this stupid comment .....dont you think its sad that these people dont feel beautiful with there natural colour and you should ask ur self why then do some research and hit me back up ...as ur says it all PIG

  • @Pig560 whats wrong with being a BLACK JAMAICAN? Some of them will run circles around this girl in the video in LOOKS and the culture is BEAUTIFUL! HATER

  • Fair & lovely ads are racist. It's high times they got a law suit for racial discrimination.

  • What would Jesus do in a situation like this?

  • What she is saying make sense. She was quoting the ads claim.

  • That's true. She criticizes it then slip of the tongue: "women not so blessed with a fair skin".

It implies she wants: equal treatment for people supposedly "less fortunate".

INSTEAD, she should demand equal treatment & reparation for people wronged because of their skin.

She's trying but isn't quite there yet

  • i believe she was being sarcastic and cynical when she said "women not so blessed with fair skin".

  • Are you sure? Not a very good idea in this case when addressing people who believe to be the truth - what u see as sarcasm.

If u listen properly to her speech she seems to believe in it too to SOME extent. Brainwashing is hard to battle when it's all over the media. She's on the right track though

  • She was being sarcastic when she says "so blessed". :-P

  • be happy with ur skin,if u are then u will not even be looking up these false things on utube

  • What about bout for us fair skinned indian guys living here in the u.s, would it be smart to sit in a tanning bed and tan up during the winter when theres no sun or stay lightskinned?

  • WHY DO INDIANS SOUND LIKE THEY HAVE PEANUT BUTTER STUCK ON THE ROOF OF THEIR MOUTH?

"meerrurr meerurr on the vall" lol

  • hey are u sayin indian girls with fair skin r ugly? I think its ugly to change your skin in the 1st place. you cant just say dark skinned ladies or fair skinned ladies are more beutiful. wat happens to those who r naturally dark or naturally fair. they dont become ugly for being wat they r

  • Straight up,

i'm glad that someone FINALLY addressed this issue.

My mom tells me that i don't understand since i've grown up in the U.S. but i do know that commercials like these set the standard for beauty and creates a REALLY big inferiority thing among all of us darker skinned women (and even men).

  • I look lightskinned but I don't bleach my skin. Ok neither was she.

She says she needs to flip the ad, well then lets flip it already!

  • some north indians are naturally light but that doesn't mean they ALL use skin lightening like among . But anyway the message is really good!

  • shut up! maybe it's her natural skin colour!!!

  • oh ok fuckhead......

  • These ads do not air in Canada so I've only just viewed them here. Your comments are accurate yet even you rever to "women not so blessed with a fair skin". Do you believe that fair skin is a blessing? The multi-billion dollar tanning cream & tanning salon industry says otherwise! Is India really a nation filled with self-hating brown people who wish they were white? Do they really believe these tricks of lighting & makeup? I hope not!

  • the most beautiful LOOKING indian & asian women are the ones with darking skin. tans looks better. just my opinion. notice i said beautiful "looking". just beacuse u look beautiful on the outside does not mean that u r truley beautiful because true beauty comes from within

  • good u addressed this issue.

  • You are soo right....People are all after looks these days.

  • haha anchal from antm is so dark and still one of the most beautiful contestants antm ever had!!!!

  • Who caes about your video blogging?

  • I couldnt have said it better!

  • RIGHT ON!! These ads make me sick.

  • is the girl commenting on this video the girl in the commerical?

  • good point u abt the commercial and you make other indians like me proud!!

  • Darkskin is the most exotic color for a woman.Darkskin is VERY beautiful rare and it stands out of a crowd. How dare these people. Are lightskin people that insecure with there lightskin color that they have to make darkskin people feel bad about their darkskin and make them want lightskin is that the only way these light people can fel good about thier color???

  • exactly, it doesn't make any sense. light-skinned people of the world have spent a lot of energy trying to downcast dark-skinned people. they're simply insecure, it doesn't make any sense

  • That's right.

  • All lightening products should be band!great vid!

  • Don't you love that Fair and Lovely is owned by same company that owns Dove and its Real Beauty Campaign?

  • Now that is sad.
