I was a member of the team at Blackburn engines that designed the A129 as it was then designated. Amazing to see one still running. Are there any others of the guys from blackburns still around? Cedric Briggs
my engine can run nonstop even when stationary. i limit runs to 5 mins so i don't upset the old dears sipping there tea in the mill caffe. jet engines are internally air cooled so they don't over heat like a piston engin will. also this engine is demonstrated at idle (40%) power for safty and to keep the noise down. cheers from the owner/operator.
Thanks mate, nice to have some info from the horses mouth. It's a very lovely beast and a good crowd puller. Where can we get the DVD? I know the other guy with the camera (don't know his name) has a better quality one than mine, so it would be nice to see your engine in high-qual. Cheers.
the dvd's are available at the open days at the mill. the first sunday of every month, from march onwards. cost is £6.00 and a £1.00 donation is made to the mill funds. or you can get one from me + postage. contact me through you tube. cheers
Nice to see your Blackburn/Hawker Siddeley/Bristol Siddeley/Rolls Royce Nimbus running. I spent 20 years working on them and 10 years instructing others on them. Can I recommend acquiring a Debris Guard? We always had them fitted except in icing conditions. She's rather close to the ground in the stand, and you don't want her to swallow anything nasty, spoiling the ship for a ha'porth 'o tar so to speak.
hi thanks for the comment,i have tried to get a fod guard for years, but no one has one for sale.
i do a check before each run just to make sure the ground is clear, but that won't stop the wind blowing shite in her path. do you have a fod guard going spare?
The camera dude was a little daft for not wearing any hearing protection, I took mine off for a second and it was painfully loud... I can't imagine standing that close. BTW - I think a jet engine when its on a helicopter or a 'plane gets cooled by other means - this one only has passive air cooling (as you can see). So he can't run it for _too_ long. Enjoy.
Thanks. I know I need to edit it a little - not much happens between ignition/spool up, throttle up and throttle down :)
To get the full effect, turn your bass control right the way up, and do the same for volume... then you're about 50% of how loud it was in real life ( I was wearing hearing protection!)
haha i could use that as a hair dryer

screw the wheels... look how close the air inlet is to the dirt on the ground!
