It was OK, but, one readily sees why valves eventually triumphed. By all accounts, this instrument is extremely difficult to play - it's even harder to play IN TUNE. Another problem that dogged this instrument was that when you added crooks, you had to deal with an entirely different set of fingerings owing to the unequal distances involved between the finger holes- unlike a on valved trumpet wherein adding a crook affects the entire set of tubing EQUALLY and the fingering is not affected.
