  • I'm thoroughly enjoying all of your video's but I have a question that hasn't already been covered. I just bought a tightlacing corset off the rack. It laces up with a nice 2inch gap at my waist but an almost 5inch gap at my hips. Is such a big discrepancy bad for the garment?

  • @BETAmosquito What can happen is the back spring steels could twist in their channels and possibly start to bend inward or outward, which will be uncomfortable if it starts to dig into your back. What you might be able to do is add hip gores to the corset to give your hips more room: slash the hips up to the waist in the middle of the panels and add some triangles of a very sturdy fabric. But if the back bones aren't twisting for you and you're fine with the discrepancy, this is optional. :)

  • @bishonenrancher Thank you so much!

I didn't even THINK of hip gores :D

  • Question: If I accidentally fell asleep in my new corset (overnight! too comfy it seems) should I leave my corset alone for most of the next day to allow the fabric to rest?

  • @AnnoyingAsianWitch Yes, I would let it air out most of the next day. It needs time for the sweat to evaporate and the fibers to relax.

  • @bishonenrancher Thanks Lucy! You're a lifesaver. And corset saver!

  • I mentioned this tip on my article and I was criticized by someone who claimed that cinching it for hours tightly everyday does the job better :/

  • @AnnoyingAsianWitch That's a good way to make the fabric warp. Let them ruin their corset if they want to.

  • Lucy you are amazing! please keep us posted with more videos! xx

  • when you're just breaking int your corset, can you wear it for 16 hours instead of the 2 although i will be lacing it to 1-2 inches?

  • @nguyenmaria90 Unfortunately not. :( If you think about how you would put pressure on other natural fibers it's easy to see why. Think about stretching a muscle for 2 hours each day (yoga, pilates etc) for 2 weeks - it will be a more gentle action than doing 16 straight hours of tension, which would lead to injury! When you stretch a fiber like cotton a little at a time and then allow it to relax, it helps align the fibers and makes sure the tension is more equally distributed the next time!

  • i've always wanted to try corsets but I watched a movie/documentary where wearing corsets make your ab muscles weak.

Is this true? Are there any dangers to wearing these?

  • @BeautifullyCute3 If you wear them everyday, then yes your body can start to depend on the corset for support and your abdominal and back muscles will weaken if they're not used. But occasional use of corsets won't weaken your muscles, and even if you do wear corsets everyday, you can do Pilates or Yoga daily to keep your core toned and strong. :) For other "dangers" please see my Physical Effects of Corseting playlist, I go over breathing, blood pressure, reproductive system etc.

  • Thanks for the informative video!

How exactly can I make sure I'm tightening it by only 2 inches, though? jbluecrush said 2" less than the natural waist measurement, but the corset itself adds inches around the waist due to its thickness..

Hope my question isn't too confusing- when I put it on, it will be loose, so from what point do I "minus" the 2 inches?

  • @hiighpriestess Well, it's not an exact science. :) It's true that the corset does at an inch or so of girth to the waist, but I really meant that when you measure yourself without a corset (say that's 27 inches), then put the corset on and tighten to the point where you measure 25 inches over the corset. Of course, your waist underneath the corset will be slightly less than that but it won't affect the seasoning that much.

  • 2" from your natural waist measurement? (just to be clear)

  • @jbluecrush Yes, exactly. :)

  • Thank you so much for this. When I bought my first corset I knew in the back of my mind that wearing it all day for the first time just didn't seem right. So I did a youtube search and here you are! So now I'm sitting with my very first corset on for the very first time and I now know how to properly fit it to my body. Thank you again! - Kat.

  • how long does it take to break in the corset? I am about to get my first one, and I was just wondering how will I know when i can start to really waist train?

  • @rosesdiefast If you wear your corset 2 hours a day, then it should be fully seasoned after about 2 weeks. You can also wear your corset for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening to season it in one week (but don't wear it for 4 hours straight, it should be in 2-hour spans). After that you can start increasing your reduction and hours of wear. :)

  • Thank you for the information. My first corset is on the way and I was wondering about the seasoning or breaking in process.

  • This video is golden. So many people don't do this and it's so important to ensure proper fit. Well done!!!

  • @SuzanziBalletHeels I know! I was amazed how many people here on YouTube pull their corsets so tightly the first time, and more amazed that I couldn't find any video that strictly talked about seasoning a corset properly. More people need to know! Once again, thanks so much for your feedback.

  • @bishonenrancher Yes, and it's also amazing how many people think that it's not necessary to do so either. I'm probably not as scientific about it, but it takes me a good fortnight of seasoning before I can close a corset all the way up. Often the busks on a corset laced tightly the first time will twist slightly also, causing difficulty in closing or even to the point where it sits crooked upon the body. :-(

  • Hi there, thank you for making such wonderful videos! How do you wash your corsets? I of course know not to put them in the wash/ dryer but do you sponge clean them now and again? What would you do if you were to get a tough stain on a corset? Seek an experienced dry cleaner?

    Thank you for your help

  • @TheEvilViolin

Hi! I never immerse my corsets in water but I do air them out every time I take it off and they seem to stay fresh. For leather/PVC corsets, wiping them down with a damp cloth is OK. For stains, just spot clean it if you can (do a colorfast test first to make sure the fabric dye doesn't bleed) or take it to the dry cleaner's. I'm so glad you like my videos, thanks for your comment!
