This was the first crusade, and the greatest and most successful. This is in fact the one most often remembered since the others...well...they didn't turn out so well.
@gryphonne695 Duke of Normandy, Duke of Aquitaine, Duke of Gascony, Lord of Ireland, Lord of Cyprus, Count of Anjou, Count of Maine, Count of Nantes, and Overlord of Brittany he also held.
The Templar Knights in Civ 3 is more appropriate. The Franks took Jerusalem and another kingdom was established there. Although King Richard I didn't succeed, the crusades themselves were the result. And free military units in Civ 3 were more useful to me than extra shields in Civ 2.
I don't see the connection, as historically the Crusades stripped the land of workers, which should surely have had the opposite effect, i.e. of decreasing productivity?
Historically, the Crusades saved Europe from costly wars between tiny states, instead directing the restless knights outward towards an enemy that needed reduction.
There were also so many knights who were second born sons... which meant their lives revolved around garrison. They would never inherit their fathers' titles or estates as their older brothers did. What the Pope also opened up for these restless knights were opportunities of land rights and their own title.
Its not what the crusades brought with them that affects productivity, but what the crusaders brought back; ie new technologies and realms of thought.
Pointless if the city you build it in is over size 8 and already has a lot of resources, you end up producing pollution every couple of turns and half your settlers which should be building improvements end up doing whack-a-mole for the next hundred turns.
Pollution's the one thing I hated about Civ 2, it made the end-game so repetitive and pointless. Not much you could do about it till you got Mass Transit and Recycling.
And even if you get their tech, you'd better still concentrate on increasing production, cause Nukes tech is very close and you should manage to be the first to develop it and SDI and strike in the final war.
One of my very favorite Wonders. This turns the city that gets it into a manufacturing super powerhouse, where you can pump out several other leftover Wonders in a matter of 40 turns. It really gives you the edge towards the beginning.
right !!! 5-10 years ago it was hard to find the composer for this wonder... BUt I am glad that the internet has progressed sice then^^ MY favourite Civ2 wonder technicaly and musicaly as well ^^
I cant see how this is something you must build wich is a "wonder" and if you did BUILD it the civilization who did sure made a hell lot of statues!

Shields are symbols of production.
When I go to work at my job, I'll be sure to keep this famous crusade in mind so I can be a much more productive employee!!!

Probably the idea that wartime boosts production of armaments and hence production in general.

The Pope was very clever to orchestrate them.
