@joshodst no need to spend even that much if you are going to just buy amd. Like best intel cpu cost like 2-3x more than the best amd cpu for what they are like 5% faster. I live in Finland so i dont really think that pc hardware is any cheaper here than like US. I only spent like 670€ euros for my pc and can run any game atm completly maxed out. To play older games only need like my old setup

you can play this with 1 gig RAM and 256 Mb DDR3 video(for smooth grafix and no lagging because of low FPS). I also have x1550, but this card isn't enough because the video memory is DDR2, not DDR3. I just mean that you can have alot of RAMs (i got 2 gigs) and the game still wouldn't run smoothely because of your card which's not DDR3 and at least 256Mb...game engine designed for specific video support and shit...complicated shit, i hope you get the idea.

If you got lots of ram you might beable to play in more high modes then low so it doesent lag!

Mmm how more you know what does what how better. Well simple tip you probably are stuck with windows Vista, it isn't..terrible bad but it is a memory hog. So get at least 2Gbyte.

Also keep a keen eye on what kind of videocard they have in the machine, if it is from Intel or Sis..forget it those don't game! If it has an nvidia or an ati it does pays to check out websites to see if it atleast is one that is in the middle line of performance.

with decent set up and a 9600M GS. Meaning 9 stands for the 9 series, the Dx10 capable series. The 600 stands for a "mid performance" card. You can game decent on those if you sacrifice some high options like AA you can enjoy decent other settings. Of course it is a MOBILE gpu, a pc one is a..quite a bit more powerfull.

Remember a high number after the first is a good thing.

Well again it depends on the performance of the graphic processor mostly. Oblivion is some power hungry game and well there isn't much you can do. If your card/mobile gpu supports HDR it is worth using it. It is lighter in use then Bloom to my feel.

I guess having enough memory and a power GPU is pretty much the basic requirement for Oblivion.

try using Oldblivion. It makes your computer able to play Oblivion on very low settings.

Well Oblivion can due to it's open world style require quite a bit but it is an older game so you don't need a godly video card. A nvidia or ati card of around $150 and you are solid. Well you still gotta fiddle with the settings obviously!

But it certainly will have decent performance and good graphics in many games. And Stick with ati or nvidia good cards good stuff.

For instance you are shooting a picture in a church, the church is dark but the light coming in from outside still crisp and sharp. Now if they would pre-filter these rangers before rendering it looks well..not as vibrant as then you render these high dynamic ranges for instance in 128bits. This to effect causes that it looks more natural with better gradients. Hence more real,

please help i have the same graphics card...1 gig of ram 2.2ghz processor and 8.8 video driver but when i try to start new game it freezes and not even the oficial tech line has helped me get it going so any clue how i can get it to run...im pretty shure its something to do with the graphics card as all the other requirements are pretty good

I have the ati radeon x1550 too, because it was the best thing I could get since my PC only have a PCI bus slot. However, my x1550 is NOWHERE close to being that nice even on minimum specs when running Oblivion. Is there something I'm supposed to do regarding the Catalyst Control Center? I have it set to "Balanced" and a match Screen refresh rate at 60 hz.

ATI x850XT platinum edition (256mb), 1254mb of ram (400mhz). roughly 2 years old from now... i run oblivion at full settings all across the board, 1280x1024, and it varies, but between 15-40, depending. usually its around 18-26. still smooth during combat. hope that helps! message me if you want to know more.

3.flick through the tabs until you find "Device Manager"

4.Click on device manager

5.Expand the display driver column

actually if you looked at reviews then you would notice that the 3870 and 9800 are isentical in specs.

only certain bits of each card are better then the opposing one.

to be honest i think nvidia and ati are both good but i would rather stick with ATI because they require less power and dont need an 8 pin
