LULU IS THE TYPE OF SCOTTISH LASSIE YOU CAN LET OUT AND SHE WILL NEVER, EVER, LET GLASGOW OR SCOTLAND DOWN. OR BRITAIN. OR EVEN HER GOOD SELF. NOW, COMPARE HER WITH SINEAD "CYANIDE" O'CONNOR AND YOU WILL NO COMPARISON AT ALL, AT ALL, AT ALL. I AM THE SAME AGE AS LULU WHO WILL BE 63 NEXT MONTH OR SO!!!
"she covered David Bowie's songs "The Man Who Sold the World" and "Watch That Man". Bowie himself produced the recordings, played saxophone and provided back-up vocals. Rumours of a brief affair were confirmed in her 2002 autobiography." from Wikipedia.
Lulu was never under rated - she was given a few crap songs - but when she got good ones, she showed what she can do...even Sandi Shaw sang some crap like Puppet, but we have Long Live Love and others
i think her version the best, it tops their greatness Nirvana and the thin white duke (who she shagged whilst making this) - keep on fucking fuckers! x
@WoodRatGirl it is but he wrote it for her but enjoyed it so much he sang it himself and even brought out an album with the same name which came out in 70 in usa, 71 in uk. you might of herd of an singer named lulu who was big in the uk and ( it was said but not confirmed ) was ment to release the song a year before bowie but didn't. but bowie did produce the song, sing back up and play saxophone in her version which if you listen you might make out his voice. also the had a little fling togethe
Come on then. Who knew that David Bowie played as part of the backing group for Lulu performing this song. I actually like this version better than Bowie's
Wtf Chakdhumplat... what does it fukin matter to u if he says it.... Yeah its a controversial opinion but i think people should mind their own business
@MrPapaBill Wrong! the man who actually produced and is credited on the 45 is none other than Wes Farrell, the producer most famous for the David Cassidy and Partridge Family records. Its was released on his Chelsea Record Label!
No, Wes Farrell produced the album on which it appeared (Heaven and Earth and the Stars). He did not produce this nor the b-side, Watch That Man. Bowie did.
Really love this song. The Sax really sells it and Lulu's wonderful voice. I love all versions of the song. Kind of view them as a trilogy of sorts. Each with it's own unique tone.

The song as such is great and Nirvana made the best out of it. But to be honest: "Lulu" and Bowie failed big-time.

My old Auntie Madge use to perform a karaoke version of this song. She was in her late 80s but quite a beatnik.
She died last year when she fell off the back of a motorcylist.
