For sheer beauty, this recording tops just about anything I've heard in several hours of listening to YT today. It is another of Jurek's great finds and much appreciated. jd
dziękuję, to piosenka którą śpiewała moja prababcia i babcia śpiewa ze łzami w oczach, wspominając Lwów, Stanisławów. Dla mnie piękna sentymentalna pieśń. Niezwykłe wykonanie, ktoś gra nawet na pile :)
For some reason or another, suddenly the Volga river is the star in quite a few videos these days. This one is a wonderful nostalgic piece, greatly orchestrated. Dairyman715 recently posted another tango by Dobri's Saxophon-Orchester, issued on Beka. It's likely this was indeed licensed from a German Beka original.
This gorgeous orchestration sounds so traditional yet so unique to me. The song sounds familiar and I believe it had a Hebrew version which was sung in Israel in youth associations years ago. Where did you get these wonderful old cards of the Volga ?

At the time of this Tango, bolsheviks were murdering Millions of Russian and Ukrainian SHEEP without any problem in GULAG SLAUGHTER factories.
Shame on Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Balts that they never exposed their murderers.

How do You find polish cover-version:
"Pośród wichrów i zamieci,
pośród wycia, świstu kul,
bronią Lwowa polskie dzieci,
znosząc rany, śmierć i ból.
A gdy wokół grzmią armaty,
Na placówce pełnim straż
Nie porzucim swojej chwały,
Bo Lwów był i będzie nasz!..."

Thank you - I find it interesting and engaging.
However... Lvov is far away from...Volga river.

Volga Volga was the name of Stalin's favorite movie. Does the song have any connection to the flick?

Absolutely - not.

Volga - Russkaya reka,
Ne vidala ty podarka ot stepnogo kazaka"
Folk russian song about Stepan Razin, the discoverer of Sybiria. Great presentation. Thank you!

Oops...just reread your About This Video and see that it's Polish Parlophon. Thanks again for this great music.

Parlophon (Polish edition, 1929), however recording is probably taken from German Beka matrix.

Some from my 'archive' some found 'on-line'.
We find here more and more sources and liaisons of Jewish/Hebrew music and vice versa. This is originally traditional song of Russia.
