Mình nhớ không lầm thì anh ấy có nói anh là phi công lái trực thăng hồi trước giải phóng. Mình cũng nhận ra cái chợ khu F ở phút 8:50, minh sáng nào cũng đi ngang qua đó để đi học tiếng anh, co khi đi học toán tích phân và đạo hàm do thày Trạch dạy. Nhìn cái cảnh đó bỗng dưng kỷ niệm tràn về trong ký ức làm mình nghẹn ngào nhớ tới Bidong.
I was there as a teenager for most of 1989 with MC 249, living in F5. Never foreget daily caned sardin, instant noodle, once a week crazy chicken (supposedly one week worth of supply which was enough for only one meal. Listening to this song now a day, I remember exactly what I was doing back then on that island when the song came on right before they made departure anouncement. The song also reminds me of being love sick on Bidong for my high school sweet heart, my first love, whom I left in Saigon back then. I listened to this song seating alone in the coffee shop on top of a small hill behind the French school, missing my girl. Damn!

I am an Australian. I worked on Bidong from 1980-1983. I was a Vietnamese interpreter. My Vietnamese name is Anh Than and i now live in Vietnam. I had a close friend on the island named Nguyen Thuy Phuong and I would love to contact her to find out if she is okay. I've forgotten her boat number but she was accepted by the U.S. delegation and I think she went to California.

I arrived to Paulo Bidong in 1978 and left to US after 10 months. My boat number #VT38. When I arrived, the island still fill with tree and the new refugees start settle in surround Malaysia police post. UNHCR officers start bring in material and food from inland on tow ship.
Also, in Sungai Besi (I think that's how you spell it,), there was a volunteered Vietnamese teach from the US teaching us kids with special program, who get to go straight to the US from Malaysia. program is called "-do`i so'ng mo'i hoa ky`". It ended in September '86. Please contact me if you're in that same program. Thank you.
I was there for 2 month on that island in 1986, then got transferred into inland for another 4 months, then came here into the US. I remember the dried up wells and the mango trees near the hospital. My sister gave birth to a baby boy, so my mom and I stayed in there with her. I remember hiking the trails to a secluded beach area on the other side of the camp. Then at times, we would hike up hills to see the beach all around us. And I was only 7 then. But I still remember the island well.
Dear caiongcuaong: You seemed to be close to the Vietnamese refugees. Greatly appreciated. Before your arrival there was a social worker (aka advisor in the camp) of Vietnamese heritage whose last name was Do. That man was like a piece of junk. He was there as he was a good piece of decoration for the camp among us, I thought. Anyway, thank you very much for posting. That has again brought a great memory of mine while being here where we, the refugees, named it "Buon Lau Bi Dat".
Wow, I can't believe these pictures and videos existed. This really hits home, I got chilled all over, I was there from 85 to 89. We climbed down that well to collect water so it would not be too muddy, and those bench at the recreation centre where we sat pass curfew to watch wrestling and soccer. Man, I am in tear. I volunteered at UN resettlement hall and TMS for couple of years before departure for Canada. Is there any way possible i can get a copy of this clip for keep sake?

I was a kid in seventies and teenager in 80's, for me war doesnt bring any good to anybody, of course I come from east coast of malaysia, during writing this comment i was less than 20 miles from pulau bidong, I saw many death of boat people, their body in the sea... horrible, anyway, they must thank malaysia goverment..
It's an emotional moment to review the place after almost 3 decades. I still think of those places clearly. I remember almost everything there. It feels just like yesterday. It's my greatest memory, which somedays I will take my kids there to see where their daddy was. Through this event, I believe our people were very strong and united together to help each other to overcome the hardest time as the lives of refugees. Our faith became stronger. God Bless You All!
@docop07 I was there in 1982-83. My boat was PB 769. I was one of the girl that always pay ping pong with the boys near the chuch in SB. My dad's name is Chau Kiet. We lived in the Long House near the church and temple. I was also in the Scout. Do you by any chance know anyone from this boat?
I was there in 82-83, and these pictures meant so much to me, although I was there a little bit before. Our little group just had 25 years reunion, and most of us just mentioned about the place without these pictures. I can't wait until our next reunion to show my friends. thank you so much for posting this.

I was there for 2 month on that island in 1986, then got transferred into inland for another 4 months, then came here into the US. I remember the dried up wells and the mango trees near the hospital. My sister gave birth to a baby boy, so my mom and I stayed in there with her. I remember hiking the trails to a secluded beach area on the other side of the camp. Then at times, we would hike up hills to see the beach all around us. And I was only 7 then. But I still remember the island well.

Dear caiongcuaong: You seemed to be close to the Vietnamese refugees. Greatly appreciated. Before your arrival there was a social worker (aka advisor in the camp) of Vietnamese heritage whose last name was Do. That man was like a piece of junk. He was there as he was a good piece of decoration for the camp among us, I thought. Anyway, thank you very much for posting. That has again brought a great memory of mine while being here where we, the refugees, named it "Buon Lau Bi Dat".

Wow, I can't believe these pictures and videos existed. This really hits home, I got chilled all over, I was there from 85 to 89. We climbed down that well to collect water so it would not be too muddy, and those bench at the recreation centre where we sat pass curfew to watch wrestling and soccer. Man, I am in tear. I volunteered at UN resettlement hall and TMS for couple of years before departure for Canada. Is there any way possible i can get a copy of this clip for keep sake?

I was a kid in seventies and teenager in 80's, for me war doesnt bring any good to anybody, of course I come from east coast of malaysia, during writing this comment i was less than 20 miles from pulau bidong, I saw many death of boat people, their body in the sea... horrible, anyway, they must thank malaysia goverment..

It's an emotional moment to review the place after almost 3 decades. I still think of those places clearly. I remember almost everything there. It feels just like yesterday. It's my greatest memory, which somedays I will take my kids there to see where their daddy was. Through this event, I believe our people were very strong and united together to help each other to overcome the hardest time as the lives of refugees. Our faith became stronger. God Bless You All!

@docop07 I was there in 1982-83. My boat was PB 769. I was one of the girl that always pay ping pong with the boys near the chuch in SB. My dad's name is Chau Kiet. We lived in the Long House near the church and temple. I was also in the Scout. Do you by any chance know anyone from this boat?

I was there in 82-83, and these pictures meant so much to me, although I was there a little bit before. Our little group just had 25 years reunion, and most of us just mentioned about the place without these pictures. You did a great job with this slide show. So many memories...I also worked in PB (in Sick Bay Laboratory) at almost the same period (86-87). I recognized a lot of my vietnamese friends and some colleagues too. Many thanks!

Dear xazndude 123x : I worked in Pulau Bidong refugee camp in 1987-1988 as a Vietnamese speaking social worker for UNHCR under supervision of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society. Most of the pictures in this slideshow were taken by me during that time. But about this specific picture you asked, sincerely I don't remember from where I got it.
