When I collect 78s, you can tell the depression of 78s from the 40's not just due to the depression, but lots of records from that decade got recycled for WWII. It's harder to collect '30s music (especially the first half of the decade) than it is to collect '20s music.

Let me guess... A young conservatory student wrote this recently as a study in the style of (say) Gershwin's, "Promenade". Not bad in that respect. I am no expert but I'm pretty sure this is not a piece from the 30s, because it's so, "in the style of". So who wrote it and when? Kudos to the performers too nevertheless.

I own 1000s of "pop" records of the bands and crooners of the 30s,and none sounds like this really.Why does everyone nowadays ignore what was popular then and either portray 30s music as Swing-40s or real Jazz-that was around then-but the large dance bands and crooners who were really popular then are ignored so often.

I know just what you mean...here's my answer:

a) it's too commercial (aka White) for the jazz fans, so they ignore it.

b) it's no longer commercial enough for the mass market, so THEY ignore it.

The only audience left seems to be a small subset of movie and theater fans - it's a sideline even for them.
