@NinjaTent soprano sax most likely, though it could possibly be clarinet. Randy Newman is known to use the soprano, it's similar to the clarinet in size and build.

@NinjaTent It's definitely a sax, but it's questionable as to if it's a soprano sax or a soprillo sax, which is slightly smaller than a soprano and in Eb instead of Bb. A clarinet would have a darker less edgy sound

Hey just a thought, I think that the sax and the trombone (the two main instruments of this piece), are meant to represent Mike and Sulley. The sax is quick and crazy like Mike, and the trombone is solid and grounded, just like Sulley. And the two instruments are singing to each other in the main theme, just like the two characters do in the end of the film!

Anyways just a thought.
