  • i will like 2 know the price of it?

  • i don't know what half that shit is...but it looks confusing as hell

  • Looks like a Sony F23. How much does it cost?

  • I wanna use this camera to record my sex videos.

  • how much you think that cam cost

  • omg im in love with this video. i dunno why

  • That...or just take the 550d out of your back pack and get the same results.

  • @avidfcp7 son, if you evidently don't know jack shit about what the genesis can do just shut the fuck up.

  • Gimme Gimme Gimme!!!!!!

  • you drop that and your life is officially over...

  • HUGE GASSY CAT TURD.

  • what is this different F23?

  • Oh... I see what camera guys have to go through.... :P

  • Also this film reminds me of a cliche- type of scene from some sort of action movie... Think of a hitman carefully assembling his weapon. Add up some strings in a background, maybe a sound of a person breathing and it's done :)

  • need some tissues to watch that :P

  • It's the illudium Q-36 explosive space modulatoorrr!

  • It's the alludium Q-36 explosive space modulatoorrr!

  • Does panavision sell their lenses? I want to see where I can get lenses for the phantom 65

  • How long does this actually take to set up?? fuck i got a headache

  • continuity! the 21mm is missing at 2:40!

  • the manual for this must be a bitch

  • @jefy56

    Ahahah! I agree!

  • Panavision my first training to operate..

    I love it,

  • i know i must sound like an idiot,

but is it a panavision or cinealta? i saw sony logo a couple of times.

  • @IntoxicatedTV It's owned by Panavision and Sony Cinealta

  • @uncutfilm

    thank you sir!

  • I think I just came?

  • 1:05 Primo.... nice

  • i like the side ways rail system!!!

  • thats what i call a battery

    hahah

  • they only rent their cameras, not selling them. that's a good habit.....

  • one day i will have a camera that will take me 4 minutes to assemble. one day.

  • Come on guys, it's not Rocket Science...that would be a lot less complicated.

  • Now that's a camera. How much is this worth. About £100.000?

  • nice camera !

  • Its Jack Bauer preparing to Shoot!

  • After watching this video multiple times, I feel like I have memorized how to assemble the Genesis.

Do you have another one of these videos on how to assemble the Panaflex?

  • Looks very much like Sony F35

  • One of the best cameras in the world...

  • Legend of the Seeker camera!

But you should have used the SSD solid state drives. =)

  • Holy crap, that's what I call a machine!

  • Nice video and camera...

  • Quite interesting. Unfortunately, no 5000 pixel-width media is available, raw data captured with this beast must be downsized to fit standard formats.

  • nice!

  • vvv

  • LOL!

  • what r u smoking?

  • and a Panavision PRIMO lens is $20,000. Come on now, you can do better than that.

  • Nope.

  • You don't know nothing.

  • looks like the f35,

  • Good grief, that thing's a freakin' Transformer!

That sure puts the HV30s us students work with to shame.

  • If i had the serious money, id definitely buy this. This is best in the industry right now in terms of shooting a picture in HD video. Good examples, Deception, 21 and Before the Devil knows Your Dead. One problem with it, is that its pretty heavy.

  • Yeah the second problem is that Panavision doesn't sell..

You can only rent or lease them, but you would still need some serious money i think ;)

  • Yeah, unfortunately a system like this would cost about 25,000 to rent i would assume. Either way, one would need a lot of money to use it as a rental. But damn, i could do some serious work with that badboy. haha

  • You could buy the RED CAMERA for $25,000 which shoots 8k video resolution.

  • @charliepagan

    4k...

  • @charliepagan

In reality the Red doesn't even shoot real 4k, to my eyes the footage from the Genesis still looks nicer than footage from the Red.

  • No, the best in the industry right now, as far as HD goes, is the Red ONE camera.

  • I completely forget about the Red One! Yes that one shoots 4k raw but I've read about it shooting a solid 3k. Both create brilliant theater quality images though.

  • Yeah, they're both great. I just say it's better because the Genesis reportedly costs a lot more.

  • *rolls eyes*

  • Yeah, 4K, 8K, When 20K comes back, you'll be raving about it when it all gets downsampled anyways... God...

  • No I don't post to youtube.

  • Rental only, Panavision NZL sells Sony cameras like the EX1 and EX3 etc, but if you want the panavision gear you have to buy it.

Alternatively there is always the Sony f35 which is essentially a Genesis with a PL mount instead of a PV mount.

  • Is that it or is there a part 2? I was actually thinking of ordering this camera but never mind. I don't think I could put it together.

  • I prefer 35mm

  • Is this an autobot or a deceptacon?

  • lol

  • @Master0ogway LOL, funny!

  • wow...this is some SERIOUS shit

  • serious shit? I heard this sentence in Back to the future lol

  • @Corman247 Fuckin Eh! Im going to the Panavision building next thursday, hopefully I get to assemble this monster.

  • pretty soon this thing will be the size of a handicam

  • The camera body, maybe.

But not the lenses, especially if they're anamorphic.

  • I dont know, our eyes seem to do pretty well without a huge lens system

  • Unless you can adapt human eyes to work as cameras, yours is not a very good analogy.

Eyes and cameras are very different in how they work and there are many things that human eyes and the brain can do that even the most advanced photography can't and likely won't ever do.

One example is being able to see in very low light with detail whereas a camera is going to be limited in that regard unless you're willing to accept increases in visible noise (faster film or upping the pickup sensitivity).

  • All I'm saying is that amazing shit is constantly happening (like the RED 28k!) and shrinking and mimicing biology so some day we might have tiny cell phone cameras that can see BETTER than human eyes/brains and are even smaller.. much like computers and how they advanced from the size of a room down to the size of a laptop all while getting 10000x more powerful!

  • Does anybody know how to go about getting a job @Panavision.(Repair/Maintenance on equipment). What would I major in? My major is CTVA which is different. Also after you get hired I'm sure there is On the Job Training (OJT) right? I"ve called them several times and they have given me the go arounds. Also, there is a lack of info on their website. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • Pretty nice camera package, but I would not use it :

Just pay attention at 1:00, the mount cap takes a lot

of work to get removed. This fact definitely puts this camera away from any serious consideration.I dont care how well it performs, the cap issue is a huge limitation.

  • the thing i don't like of it is that it doesn't have a mirror shutter :S

  • Beautiful images from this thing (Déja Vu for example), but the movement still gives it away and reminds me of home video. Kind of makes it cheap, which is unfortunate. I don't know what needs to be changed technically to prevent that, but it would be nice if they figured it out.

  • Wow, I didn't realize how much the RED 'borrows' from this camera. The cables look exactly alike, the sensor cover is identical, even the viewfinder arm is similar.

  • That's really not a lot....that's pretty basic stuff.

3 things in an overall design that contains thousands of elements.

  • all cars also have wheels, seats and doors ;)

  • Is it made in China or made in USA?

  • The Genesis is a digital camera system. The leading digital camera system to exact.

  • they didn't use film for this monster? how come you call it a film if you don't use any film?

  • Cause that's just what you call it.

You wouldn't call "Angels and Demons" a video just because it was shot digital. It's still a movie or a film even though technology is advancing past film.

  • Because most of the time the end product is produced on a reel of film and shipped to theaters.

  • I know that for god's sake. I'm an indie filmmaker in Toronto & NY.

  • 0:45 it was written sony? wtf?

  • The Best one ever.

  • those guys are earning there wage just putting the thing together correctly, let alone filming. Fascinating video, thanks for uploading!

  • Absolutely stunning...

  • I'd like to know what video camera shot this exceptional footage. I can't afford the Panavision, but maybe the camera used to film the Panavision. Could someone let me know? Thank you,

    God bless,

    Tyler.

  • Can't wait for the f25 to be released its going to be released when the Copyright on the Genesis' chip expires or something. So the F25 is basically gonna be a Genisis.

  • F35 you mean.

  • Yeah

  • What kind of lathe is this monster "thing"?And where is the fourth case?I think that you could go to the war with this and even kill somebody: -)That´s just envy talking: -)

  • IT´S A MONSTER CAMERA!!

  • increible

  • If you have any experience on a set, you'd know Panavision's gear is worth every penny. 98% of you jerkoffs are saving for a Red Scarlet(,or more likely you'll put it on credit you were going to use on a car,) along with a Mac Tower only to use it on overproduced Youtube & Vimeo vids that no one will care about anymore then cellphone vids because the rez is still shit on Youtube.

  • Anyone going through the trouble of doing at least that shouldn't use youtube as a primary source of distribution.

Although Panavision is one of the best professional companies around, it is still way out of the price range of most organizations that rely on HD video. Most tv stations actually use the Sony HVR V1U. The Red One is an amazing camera that has such a high resolution, it is very similar to film. Even so, the Panavision Genesis is the greatest thing ever :D

  • I like the way they used the panaglid in halloween do they still make panaglides and how much do they cost panaglides

  • hey deakins, nice camera

  • No doubt about it the Genesis is a wonderful, far overpriced, clunky, 2K camera. On its way out.

Delivers a picture almost as nice as the Viper Stream.

With well over 3,000 RED ONES sold before its even been out 10 months.

It is day by day REPLACING Genesis shoots.

And when the EPIC arrives? There is no telling what will happen to Panavision as a company.

I love Allan and my boys at Panavision.

But even they admit its time to move onto better things.

  • so when is red coming out with the "make good looking movies instead of bland high resolution shit from untalented producers with too large of a line of credit" button?

  • thats what I need...

  • It uses a Sony VTR and veiwfinder... It looks like an F23/35 with panavision written on it...

  • wow que chulada de camara, para que vean que el futuro si es el cine digital, importantes fábricantes como SONY, PANASONIC, ARRIFLEX, PANAVISION ya hicieron productos digitales es solo cuestión de tiempo.

  • they used this camera in Superbad and Seth Rogen was complaining about it because he said that every 10 minutes or so they would have to stop to change the film reel but with the Genesis they don't need to change reels so he cant get a break

  • is there a different between the resolution of a 35mm (analogue) and this panavision digital system?

    ( ludwigshafen,germany)

  • Some film people will try and tell you that 35mm has a far superior resolution... your eyes will have trouble telling you if there is really a difference. The majority of quality issues happen way after the shoot - according to Kodak a cinema print will have around 1.4K of resolution - and that's Kodak's opinion.

  • The difference isn't so much in the resolution but in the silver hydride reaction as apposed to the digital acquisition of the image. Film reacts differently - and has a very impressive colour depth.

  • @RAFAZUM i know the red one for 17.5k , howmuch this camera would be ? and where would you suggest me to search for more info on it?

    thanks

  • @attackonh3 The Genesis isn't for sale. It is a camera supplied by Panavision to productions, usually film or commercial shoots. You can rent it.

Contact Panavision for more info. The guys that work there are really helpful.

I suggest you stick to the Red One. If you do want something like this though :

the digital version of the Genesis has just lost copyright on its chip, so you can buy an equivalent camera made by Sony called the F35 for around £250,000.

  • It's just cool to watch!

  • Yeah, that is a REALLY good setup vid...type of knowledge u get as an a.c.....real helpful

  • anyone know what rental for this camera is like?

  • A real complete package around $4k per day or so.

  • wot a brill camera bet that is worth quite a bit lol good video

  • RED ONE

    RED ONE

    RED ONE

    sooooooooo much better.

  • Thats a bold statment...but I dont see the Genesis shooting 4k...

  • RED ONE FANBOY lmao. RED ONE IS a nice camera for people who can't afford Panavisions or Sony F23s.

  • I assume u can afford a Panavision and Sony F23 right?

  • Like you?

  • Great setup video!!! Very well done, showing all the steps. I've worked with the D-20, closest thing to film for an assistant. I have yet to be on a shoot with the Genesis though.

  • wgat camera did you film this with?

  • let me tell u sumin! This camera and the celluloid type cameras are so yesteryear now. I mean look at how long it took to build this beast together. There's a new type of camera in town and it's sexy, lightweight, PL Lens are compatible and can capture upto 4k imaging @ 23.79fps to 100fps meaning 'RED ONE' is the next generation in movie and indie filmmaking - PERIOD. NO MORE WASTING TIME AND MONEY ON FILM DEVELOPMENT. IT'S ABOUT STR8 TO DISK BABY ALL THE WAY!

  • this camera does shoot straight to disk...

  • what do you know?

  • the camera is genesis, together with the sony srw 1 hdcam recorder..genesis is an hd camera the ccd chip is single and the resolution is 5760x2160, 12.4 million pixels, unlike the standard 3ccd video cameras, this means the width of this and a super 35mm film are the same. Arriflex made d20 as a rival.

  • Yeah...anyone know the main differences between this and the Arri camera

  • the Pavavision lens. Like no other.

  • i want this camera!

  • The video abrubtly ends a few seconds too soon.

  • ok, let me understand this. Panavision doesn't sell cams, but why not? now, the arri, could that one be bought? and if so, what kind is good enough for a beginner? and since i am a beginner. What's the range of prices for those kind of cams?

  • if you have to ask, to much. most cameras look this are several thousand to rent, per day

  • Not always. I rented an ArriFlex 35mm for about 300 per week. Just depends where you look.

  • yeah thats very true, but the digital cameras tend to be way more because they figure if your saving money by not having to spend budget on film stock, then you can spend that money on the camera rental.

  • for the whole kit? over a million dollars

  • You cannot buy this camera. Panavision still has the panaflex cameras that were used to shoot Jaws still in inventory. They rent there stuff nothing more.

  • 100 000 to 1 000 000.

Stick to HV30 and filming your dog.

  • That camera is a beast.

  • was lucky enough to be able to direct 2 spots for the BBC in England on one of these units.

The rear unit or 'toaster' was playing up on

the day and we nearly packed up and went to 35mm film. The guys got it working and all was fine in the end. See the results on Youtube "Terry Christian BBC HD promo"

  • how much is that cam worth (i know its not for sale, but like -what if you broke it)?

  • Probably somewhere in the 6-digit range.

  • That is why before you rent from them you get rental insurance.

  • i wish i could play with that sucka..

  • definetely has the edge on my sony dv camcoder! lol

  • haha

  • talk about a nice Christmas present, LOL! yeah in my dreams.

  • cool how much did it cost? lol

  • shocks! this is one dream machine!

  • good shit.

    thanks for posting it.

    jordi

  • With all those vents, where am I s'posed to stick my velcro? :)

  • This is one of the great things about YouTube. Really appreciate you having this on here. Outstanding.

  • Woooww! It's a Monster! O____O

  • Nice camera and everything, but whats the footage like?

  • In general, film-like.

That's the whole point in digital 24P cinematography.

And, the PanaVision Genesis improves upon the Sony CineAlta system.

And, there's already better systems, too, such as the Thomson Viper.

  • whats the running price tag for this camera without a lens?

  • Well, it being a panavision already takes it off the market, as they only rent out their cameras. One equal to this would be the "HD-900F High Definition Camera System", and that usually runs about 60,000 without panavision upgrades.

  • This is far above the f900, the f35 would be closer, at the time of your post the f23 would have been closest because of the form factor. the f900 isn't 4:4:4 like the Genesis.

  • thanks for clearing that up!

  • panavision doesnt sell there equiptment, they only rent out.

  • Wow, nice camera!

  • haa mierda hasta terminar de armar la caramara ya te perdiste lo que querias filmar

  • Genesis Shoots strictly digital, on a CMOS sensor with the same field of view as a Real 35mm Fram. Each frame is the same as that of a Nikon D70 digital Camera, 6 Mega Pixles. Camera shoots 1-140 frames per second.

  • It actually uses a single 12.4 megapixel CCD chip. The Arri D-20 uses a CMOS sensor.

  • and shoots up to 50 fps...

  • so does the genisis shoot 35 mm or digital or like...what

  • If the camera uses Cine Alta equipment, it's digital.

  • cud u tell me what type of tripod that is. i wud really like to know.

  • it seems to be some kind of aluminium legs and a geared head by panavision. can't tell you any more, since panavision isn't very popular in europe and i never worked with any of their equipment.

  • Awesome video!

  • impresionante la cámara ufffff SONY + PANAVISION los amos del cine digital
