Also this film reminds me of a cliche- type of scene from some sort of action movie... Think of a hitman carefully assembling his weapon. Add up some strings in a background, maybe a sound of a person breathing and it's done :)
Quite interesting. Unfortunately, no 5000 pixel-width media is available, raw data captured with this beast must be downsized to fit standard formats.
If i had the serious money, id definitely buy this. This is best in the industry right now in terms of shooting a picture in HD video. Good examples, Deception, 21 and Before the Devil knows Your Dead. One problem with it, is that its pretty heavy.
Yeah, unfortunately a system like this would cost about 25,000 to rent i would assume. Either way, one would need a lot of money to use it as a rental. But damn, i could do some serious work with that badboy. haha
I completely forget about the Red One! Yes that one shoots 4k raw but I've read about it shooting a solid 3k. Both create brilliant theater quality images though.
Unless you can adapt human eyes to work as cameras, yours is not a very good analogy.
Eyes and cameras are very different in how they work and there are many things that human eyes and the brain can do that even the most advanced photography can't and likely won't ever do.
One example is being able to see in very low light with detail whereas a camera is going to be limited in that regard unless you're willing to accept increases in visible noise (faster film or upping the pickup sensitivity).
All I'm saying is that amazing shit is constantly happening (like the RED 28k!) and shrinking and mimicing biology so some day we might have tiny cell phone cameras that can see BETTER than human eyes/brains and are even smaller.. much like computers and how they advanced from the size of a room down to the size of a laptop all while getting 10000x more powerful!
Does anybody know how to go about getting a job @Panavision.(Repair/Maintenance on equipment). What would I major in? My major is CTVA which is different. Also after you get hired I'm sure there is On the Job Training (OJT) right? I"ve called them several times and they have given me the go arounds. Also, there is a lack of info on their website. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks
Pretty nice camera package, but I would not use it :
Just pay attention at 1:00, the mount cap takes a lot
of work to get removed. This fact definitely puts this camera away from any serious consideration.I dont care how well it performs, the cap issue is a huge limitation.
Beautiful images from this thing (Déja Vu for example), but the movement still gives it away and reminds me of home video. Kind of makes it cheap, which is unfortunate. I don't know what needs to be changed technically to prevent that, but it would be nice if they figured it out.
Wow, I didn't realize how much the RED 'borrows' from this camera. The cables look exactly alike, the sensor cover is identical, even the viewfinder arm is similar.
You wouldn't call "Angels and Demons" a video just because it was shot digital. It's still a movie or a film even though technology is advancing past film.
I'd like to know what video camera shot this exceptional footage. I can't afford the Panavision, but maybe the camera used to film the Panavision. Could someone let me know? Thank you,
Can't wait for the f25 to be released its going to be released when the Copyright on the Genesis' chip expires or something. So the F25 is basically gonna be a Genisis.
What kind of lathe is this monster "thing"?And where is the fourth case?I think that you could go to the war with this and even kill somebody: -)That´s just envy talking: -)
If you have any experience on a set, you'd know Panavision's gear is worth every penny. 98% of you jerkoffs are saving for a Red Scarlet(,or more likely you'll put it on credit you were going to use on a car,) along with a Mac Tower only to use it on overproduced Youtube & Vimeo vids that no one will care about anymore then cellphone vids because the rez is still shit on Youtube.
Anyone going through the trouble of doing at least that shouldn't use youtube as a primary source of distribution.
Although Panavision is one of the best professional companies around, it is still way out of the price range of most organizations that rely on HD video. Most tv stations actually use the Sony HVR V1U. The Red One is an amazing camera that has such a high resolution, it is very similar to film. Even so, the Panavision Genesis is the greatest thing ever :D
so when is red coming out with the "make good looking movies instead of bland high resolution shit from untalented producers with too large of a line of credit" button?
wow que chulada de camara, para que vean que el futuro si es el cine digital, importantes fábricantes como SONY, PANASONIC, ARRIFLEX, PANAVISION ya hicieron productos digitales es solo cuestión de tiempo.
they used this camera in Superbad and Seth Rogen was complaining about it because he said that every 10 minutes or so they would have to stop to change the film reel but with the Genesis they don't need to change reels so he cant get a break
Some film people will try and tell you that 35mm has a far superior resolution... your eyes will have trouble telling you if there is really a difference. The majority of quality issues happen way after the shoot - according to Kodak a cinema print will have around 1.4K of resolution - and that's Kodak's opinion.
The difference isn't so much in the resolution but in the silver hydride reaction as apposed to the digital acquisition of the image. Film reacts differently - and has a very impressive colour depth.
@attackonh3 The Genesis isn't for sale. It is a camera supplied by Panavision to productions, usually film or commercial shoots. You can rent it.
Contact Panavision for more info. The guys that work there are really helpful.
I suggest you stick to the Red One. If you do want something like this though :
the digital version of the Genesis has just lost copyright on its chip, so you can buy an equivalent camera made by Sony called the F35 for around £250,000.
Great setup video!!! Very well done, showing all the steps. I've worked with the D-20, closest thing to film for an assistant. I have yet to be on a shoot with the Genesis though.
let me tell u sumin! This camera and the celluloid type cameras are so yesteryear now. I mean look at how long it took to build this beast together. There's a new type of camera in town and it's sexy, lightweight, PL Lens are compatible and can capture upto 4k imaging @ 23.79fps to 100fps meaning 'RED ONE' is the next generation in movie and indie filmmaking - PERIOD. NO MORE WASTING TIME AND MONEY ON FILM DEVELOPMENT. IT'S ABOUT STR8 TO DISK BABY ALL THE WAY!
the camera is genesis, together with the sony srw 1 hdcam recorder..genesis is an hd camera the ccd chip is single and the resolution is 5760x2160, 12.4 million pixels, unlike the standard 3ccd video cameras, this means the width of this and a super 35mm film are the same. Arriflex made d20 as a rival.
ok, let me understand this. Panavision doesn't sell cams, but why not? now, the arri, could that one be bought? and if so, what kind is good enough for a beginner? and since i am a beginner. What's the range of prices for those kind of cams?
yeah thats very true, but the digital cameras tend to be way more because they figure if your saving money by not having to spend budget on film stock, then you can spend that money on the camera rental.
You cannot buy this camera. Panavision still has the panaflex cameras that were used to shoot Jaws still in inventory. They rent there stuff nothing more.
was lucky enough to be able to direct 2 spots for the BBC in England on one of these units.
The rear unit or 'toaster' was playing up on
the day and we nearly packed up and went to 35mm film. The guys got it working and all was fine in the end. See the results on Youtube "Terry Christian BBC HD promo"
Well, it being a panavision already takes it off the market, as they only rent out their cameras. One equal to this would be the "HD-900F High Definition Camera System", and that usually runs about 60,000 without panavision upgrades.
This is far above the f900, the f35 would be closer, at the time of your post the f23 would have been closest because of the form factor. the f900 isn't 4:4:4 like the Genesis.
Genesis Shoots strictly digital, on a CMOS sensor with the same field of view as a Real 35mm Fram. Each frame is the same as that of a Nikon D70 digital Camera, 6 Mega Pixles. Camera shoots 1-140 frames per second.
it seems to be some kind of aluminium legs and a geared head by panavision. can't tell you any more, since panavision isn't very popular in europe and i never worked with any of their equipment.
i will like 2 know the price of it?

mikekrumlauf 4 years ago

It actually uses a single 12.4 megapixel CCD chip. The Arri D-20 uses a CMOS sensor.

If the camera uses Cine Alta equipment, it's digital.

donvito19923 5 years ago
it seems to be some kind of aluminium legs and a geared head by panavision. can't tell you any more, since panavision isn't very popular in europe and i never worked with any of their equipment.
