In the book I felt torn about Humbert until I read the passage where he commented that he had " strenuous sexual intercourse twice a day every day," and that she cried after each time. That's just assault. He just used his dick instead of his fist.

I'm not exactly sure about this but I've heard that in some cultures, the apple represents virginity. So they might have been trying to make a statement about Lolita's virginity in this scene. Though, as I said before, I'm not entirely sure.
