I wanted one of these so bad when I was a kid. The name doesn't ring a bell, but I sure remember the gun. Fake sound effect in the ad! But they were cool because even without caps they made a cool noise. Not as cool as with. I had to settle for one the crank-action burp guns (plastic version of the M3 "grease gun"). Which was pretty neat, but you never saw guys in war movies turning a crank to fire their submachine guns.
@razzamattazz "all of you people seriously not get that inflation is a thing?" Of course they don't, Obama's up for re-election. Americans are THE absolute worst when it comes to any sort of money matters.
Now, the time is changing, you can smoke marijuana , be a gay, pay taxes and more taxes, violent movies in tv, blood in oceans, tv war, but toy guns ...
@00shadowLord I know. The absurd panic over allegations that Batman was gay led to actual gay comics with an actual gay agenda. And they're not even fun to read.
I can mildly understand the panic over the Beatles. But honestly if they were scared of the Beatles, they should've taken Whitiker Chambers' warnings about Alger Hiss more seriously when they had the chance.
Derida was a much bigger threat than John Lennon. And remember Bill Ayers? Got off on a technicality.
It's likely to be more subtle than that. These toys were nothing more than objects, whereas The Beatles and comic books represented numerous symbols that might have inspired the people to go against the design of the world order or at least against their government.Giving kids toy guns gave the illusion of several kinds of freedom, while they tried to eliminate,or at least dampen, symbols that were more likely to influence the public against them, without the people suspecting it
I grew up in the 90's and we had these commercials on tape. You have no idea how much I longed for these toys. NO IDEA.
I wanted Sgt Saunder's 1928A1 more than anything. F*** super soakers. F*** laser tag. F*** alien-colored NERF guns. I wanted a THOPMSON.
Every year I put the Tommy Burst and ThunderBurp on my Christmas list. I dreamed of them. I watched these commercials over and over and over. But I knew I could never have them. Just a scratchy black and white memory of simpler times...

I'm lucky I didn't lose my hearing in the 1950's from detonating a set of toy gun "caps" with a hammer on the sidewalk. Couldn't hear a thing afterwards, just a lot of ringing.
@inkey2 ... Yeah, I meant to say "roll" of caps. That's how they were sold as I recall. Well, those were the good old says. Lucky me, living in Southern California I got to see the original cowboy superheros riding their horses in the Rose Parade -- The Lone Ranger and Tonto, Wild Bill Hickcock, the Cisco Kid and Poncho, and Annie Oakley.
Hahaha, I had completely forgotten about overpacking those shells with Greenie Stik-M-Caps. That was awesome. I asked my Dad once to pick up some Greenie roll caps but the toy store was sold-out. So, he bought a box of "Chinese Red" rolls, they were packed with twice the gunpower as the Mattel Greenies. Man, those caps sounded like firecrackers and they smoked like crazy. My Tommy Burst sounded like the REAL THING!!
@ctaesque here's a good one for you.....it must have been about 1962 my brother and I would take a full roll of caps, the red type that rolled up in a coil.......we would go out behind our suburban boston appartment and slam a whole roll with a brick......sounded like a bomb going off. The neighbors must have hated us
@Karpens16 oh, a lot of these toy guns were really nice. Many were all chrome plated "metal".....the grip would be a simulated wood or ivory. They had the heft and feel of a real gun.
Even though I'm not old enough to remember this, in the 90s our capguns still looked like guns, the grips being wood coated and the barrels being traditional gunmetal silver; the only difference is we had the orange plug.
The toy rifles you'd find at certain theme parks still had that vintage look of wooden grip and gunmetal barrel, again with the orange plug.
Now, not only do they have the orange plug, but some ugly green or orange color that looks really horrible and doesn't feel right at all
Good God! And people complain about video games turning kids into homicidal maniacs. We have offically dropped our nuts straight into our purses. Or as we call them "European Shoulderbags".
Funny, back when toy guns were cool and kids at my high school carried loaded hunting rifles in the back window of their trucks in the STUDENT PARKING LOT we never had drug deals, gangs, shootings, or any other violence.
It's AFTER the idiot liberals took control of education that things went crazy!
Now that's a toy you can play with! A kid can get years of enjoyment with a little imagination and a pop gun. Not like those crappy robot toys you see on TV which last about Christmas day and then proceed to rot in the toy chest.

If you put enough Greenie Stick Um Caps on the base of little plastic bullets these things would leave a bruise.

Anyone how even knows what Stick Um Caps were will know what I am talking about.
