Nice as a test flight although because it was not "sustained" it is not a demonstration of on-board human powered flight as the kinetic energy in the demonstration is arguably from those who launched the craft and not from the onboard facility.
you should change the cockpit to recumbert style. it will give you more power and improve the design. check about "Worlds Fastest Bicycle Competition" in you know where. otherwise the design seems great.
Yep Boeing is maker lighter planes with more efficient engines. Take a look at the latest plane they produced with a fuselage made of composite materials including carbon fiber.
u c humans dont make enough energy to fly, so everything on this human powered plane is huge so it can amplify what little energy the human can generate.
so if u strapped a motor to that thing u know how far it could go?
so the reason this should make u think is this.
we are always making higher powered moters to put on our regular plane frames, why dont we use a lower powered motor and use a more efficient frame? thus saving fuel
good thinking. but i really don't think there will be any fuel saving just because of saving. world is just in the transition to biofuel (good old ethanol). in scandinavia and also here, its already available in gas stations. im not sure what companies make these cars, but saab is one of them.
It is an good exercise before going to work.

Dear All,
i have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we want to design and to fly human powered aeroplane while we have jet engine?
(2) Why do we enjoy to fly in the same way as cycling a bike?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

Another really poor design.

wow. its so lightweight that one man practically threw it with one hand like a balsa wood glider.

When this plane flies, does it utilize the same or similar type of gear-changing process to a larger sprocket? Seems a good idea.

also interesting to stop the wheels to spinning to save energy on the atrict from the gears

In other videos, their plane flies higher and longer. Maybe the pilot over there has more stamina than the pilot here.

let's say you are about 500 ft above and you've got tired of paddling...

then it glides. :P

add an emergency engine as well as a parachute DUMMY

@ice9fetus81 you would glide down, duh, its a glider, lol

no, stick two electric propellers and cover the wings with solar cells (already done).
Is the spinning guy shifting gears? He seems to spin a lot and the propeller keeps on going too solow...

then stick a horse in it

cool concept, just disappointing that humans arn't built for this. We don't have the "horsepower" lol.
