with the flames up the side of the container, you had benefit of the surround heat. I would wager that if you built a wind shield out of a tin can with simple metal rods stuck thru to hold the can above the flame and vent holes down low you could capture more of the btu potential
I found that narrow bottomed pots like this benefit from sticking aluminum flue tape fins around the sides to transfer the heat from excess flames coming up the sides.
Wow. I could have picked up one of these for 12.99 at Winners of all places. I passed but now I think I should have picked it up. I think it would work great with a pop can stove. Burner holes on the inside of the can ring!
I found that the bigger and thicker aluminum pots the longer to boil time on my stove. Keep in mind the stove has to heat the entire pot up. So I guess it could be said that smaller is better. When it comes to pots that is. HAAAAA HAAAAA
Hi Hiram. Do you have any ideas of what fuel we can use in the UK? I've tried using meths, but it's a bit sooty. We can't get Heet or similar over here... Thanks.
I bet the fast boil is due to a thinner wall on the GSI. I have the Dualist version if this and I love it.
Hiram, I bet the Venom Superstove would work well with that pot and not lick up the sides. if you still have it laying around it might be worth checking out. Also maybe the Brasslite Turbo II-D since it is a center-flame burner.
I have the GSI Minimalist and use it with my "Fancee Feest" stove by Zelph. It works great and I get VERY fast boil times, too. I use a folded piece of aluminum foil as a pot cover when boiling water as I don't want to melt the included GSI lid.
Not a bad time for a non-optimised system, I expected worse from hard anodizing. Looks like a good little soup pot.
I think you should try this pot on the Westwind/Trangia combination. A small pot should fit on the tapers and there may be an improvement in the Westwind/Trangia if you lift the burner slightly to close the gap just above the Trangia flange. See if a beer bottle cap under the burner will do.
Nice - I like your style! - I'm an avid hiker and also like doing things on a budget so this kind of review is great. I've still got quite a few of your videos to get through ;)
i have just had a GSI PINNIACLE SOLOIST shiped from the u.s. to the u.k., with the same pot as you have, could you please do a test with a MSR POCKET ROCKETand a Trangia burner, i would be very intrested to find out the boil times for both these burners.
I bought one of those a few months back. It replaces my GSI SS mug i used to use. I haven't been able to get out in the field much to use it yet though.
I’ve been considering the purchase of this pot. Thanks for mentioning the warning of flames up the side and possible lid damage. Since I tend to have that situation from time to time (I like side burner, no pot stand stoves like you are have been testing lately), it brings to light something I need to consider.
An easy solution might be using a can lid for a pot lid. Like what I used when I baked pancakes with my Xmug. I tried a can lid in this test but the thermometer probe got in the way. A lid shouldn't add too much weight to the set unless you're a "gramweinie"

You have to add the flame contact area around the sides of the pot.

This might be the pot to work with the AXE stove Hiram. Good info and nice job!
