@RoyerHalladay you clearly fail to understand more complex music styles... of course it's unappealing because maybe this is the first time you hear something more creative than your favourite "3 bend blues"(not that I don't like blues)... any form of jazz will sound fucking wrong to most of the people because of the inability to accept different things... now I should just enjoy the dude's creativity flow :D open your minds people!!!

I agree that there should be a little more fluency but that is due in part to the nature of the 20 second progression.

And the progression goes to the V chord which is kinda sudden and the altered scale would be most fusion player's scale of choice for that cuz of it's jazzy nature and so it sounds kinda exotic. Though if you listen to Guthrie's improv on it, he definitely does seem to have more musical phrasing.

The altered scale; The 7th mode of the melodic minor scale. It's a good V chord scale especially for jazz/fusion.
