  • really great!!

  • fuck me they were stellar

  • STINSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cause they were hardcore, haha no one cared about the age, and if they did they would just tell them to fuck off haha

  • Ugh, was there ever a greater rock band than the Replacements in their heyday? LOL @ Tommy, though. How did they manage to play bar gigs with a kid that young in the band?

  • who gives a shit about hair this band was about rock and roll

  • Very good, but i prefer they Alternative Rock era.

Compare Paul with this hair in this video and he in the video of Kiss Me On the Bus

  • Sloppy, wreckless and so F'n good

  • This was shot in the entry. Tommy had just turned 13 when they did their first gig -3 nights over Halloween weekend at the Longhorn in Oct 1980.

  • this is a great video the replacement are just a fantastic band i have all their records thanks for posting i never got to see them live and if they ever get back together im so there

  • It sucks that it will never happen. Bob is dead, Chris not only doesn't like Paul at all, but he left behind music for his art which earns him tens of thousands of dollars for each painting. And Tommy is out in LA playing bass for Guns & Roses.

  • so.. who the fuck are the beatles ? this is the greatest rockand roll thing i ever seen

  • @rockandrollnigger dude you'll be interested to know that the replacements were influenced by the Beatles and that the beatles are one of the greatest bands ever. ignorant schmuck

  • @procrastinator300 have fun snoozing to beatle sheep ! baaaa!

  • @rockandrollnigger what?

  • you won't ever say that its so

you're in love and i'm in trouble

    just frigging brilliant

  • Okay they warmed up for Tom Petty, I'm wrong (not the first time). Agree with Apelock: Best Song at their Best Moment. "Sorry Ma..." is still my favorite album of all time.

Reading the book right now...good nuggets of info.

  • Just finished it. So fuckin' great! ...but i admit, it was really tough re-living Bob's demise through those pages....

Regardless, The Mats are the greatest.

  • Their best song at their best moment - can I give 6 stars?

  • I never thought I'd hear that song again. Except in my head.

  • "Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash"-Oh now THAT is a classic. Paul W. sure knew how to express sloppy joyful crappy teendom.

  • Makes the hair stand up on my legs and arms. Easily the greatest american band. Was this filmed at the Longhorn in Mpls? I bet I was there.

  • THE SHIT.

  • Unbelievable to see a live performance of these guys when they were so raw (YouTube is the greatest). The best part about the 'mats is that they turned down warm up acts for U2 and The Rolling Stones because they didn't warm up for ANYONE (how cool does that make you?)

  • They warmed up for Tom Petty (after Don't tell a soul)

  • yeah cos a twat like petty needs to be warmed up like a fuckin carcuss !!

  • agreed. Tom petty stole the line "rebel without a clue". Jim Walsh mentions this in his book "All Over but the Shouting".

  • They covered U2.

  • i don't remember that? as the other poster said, they opened for petty. i saw that tour in Chicago at Poplar Creek, or as Tommy called it, "Popular Creek". They totally fucked that show up. At the end paul turned away from the audience and bowed showing his ass then gave us the finger with both hands. Classic.

  • fuckin magical

  • The Placemats!

  • the greatest rock and roll band of all time!

  • tommy had to get a permission slip from home to play the entry, they played in the basement not garage i remember the old octopus furnace down there

  • Tommy was 12 when the band started. This looks to be about '81-'82 so 14 makes sense. A couple of years later I tried to get him a job in the grocery store where I was working at the time. Was this recorded in the 7th street entry?

  • HOLY SHIT WUT

  • I don't know if it's the sound quality, but this is definitely one of those nights when they sounded like the best band on the planet. They were ON. What a tight pop punk band. Man.

  • Yeah Bitches!!! Minneapolis Rocks. My mom was friends with Stinson. she really liked the replacements back in the 80s, and is still a fan of Westerberg. The Replacements and Stevie Ray Vaughan are 2 of the few talents that weren't completely ruined by the 80s.

  • you dont need to know anything about a band to dig 'em,but i recall that tommy stinson WAS fourteen

supposedly when they did their first l.p."sorry ma

forgot to take out the trash"- i dont know if it's ever been available on cd but on the back of the lp

he looks even younger than that...in those days they were loose, raw and terrific- and to top it all paul

westerburg was one of rock's GREATEST hollerers...as

perfect as,say, steve marriot was in the faces.

  • amazing

  • no wonder cobain snuffed himself he was the latest fad

  • That was harsh.

  • one of the GREATEST bands ever!

  • rock? more like punk, but it still rocks

  • Looks like they were still a garage band, but who cares, it rocks anyway.

  • He WAS 14!!!

  • wow!! a live thing from the greatest straightahead

    rocknrollband of the80s.thanks.

  • he got in troubale because he tapped it live.

  • it's about his girlfriend

  • good lord they're young in this vid. tommy looks 14.
