I did cpr on a guy that ended up dying while I watched the ambulance remained parked at a hospital 100 yds away rather than drive across a small field to get him help they dispatched from 9 minutes away ..... the feeling of helplessnes and anger was overwhelming and even the cop who was there watching me give cpr said he was signing a complaint on the emt response time ... It took me years to get over that because i coulda saved him but i waited for the ambulance instead of openin his airway!

They dispatch right away. All the other stuff is recorded for the police report, lawsuits, etc. later. Some of the questions are used to prioritize the dispatch, as few cities have unlimited resources. For instance, if it were a car theft the dispatch level would be low, car accident = high.

What kills me is that EVERYONE in this area knows where Boulevard East is. The nickle and dime arguing about 'well, that's Weehawken not Union City' is complete crap. The operator could call Weehawken OR Union City it just wouldn't matter.  What an arsehole. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

They have to pinpoint it on the dispatch map. Better to make sure you have it right than send the ambulance to the wrong place. In my city many, many streets have similar variations of the same name (broadway, broadway east, broadway place, broadway drive, east broadway avenue, etc)

Seriously....are we farming 911 calls out to India too. The emergency operator cant be heard, and you can barealy understand him. Does anyone is this damn country still speak clear English?
