For example what exactly caused the 2008 recession or what caused the attack on 9/11. I want to be very politically educated and I don't know how to go about it? What should I read as far as books, websites, or forums to get smart?

If you are expecting a 15 page Phd style research paper you will be sorely disappointed. Fact of the matter is, Obama is a weak President.
He could have rammed through some Franklin Delano Roosevelt-style legislation in the first 2 years of the Presidency where the Democrats had a solid majority in both houses. In the Senate even if he didn't have all 60 votes he could have just used the simple majority/reconciliation method that Bush had used MANY times.
But he did not. He decided to be a pussy. I'd rather have a one term President who at least had the cojones to pass some great legislation than a 2 term President who passed nothing worth speaking about.

If you are expecting a 15 page Phd style research paper you will be sorely disappointed. Fact of the matter is, Obama is a weak President.
He could have rammed through some Franklin Delano Roosevelt-style legislation in the first 2 years of the Presidency where the Democrats had a solid majority in both houses. In the Senate even if he didn't have all 60 votes he could have just used the simple majority/reconciliation method that Bush had used MANY times.
