Ford GT was NOT a pure English effort. Yes, FAV [English Ford Advanced Vehicles] 1st developed the car. Yes, alot of the car came via the English Lola GT.
BUT after FAV failed, the car was turned over 2 Shelby American 2 make it work. Then, US CarCraft + others actually built GT's from 1965 on. AND Ford in US DID design GT work [intitally + definitely from the 7L '65 cars, thru the LM winning Mark II's + IV's.
Only then did JWyer take it all back + build Gulf GT's.
How can someone talk about a Auto Maker they never sat in, drove or repaired. I honestly thought they were road testing an Alfa Romeo car. This was a waste of my time!
bring alfa romeo to north american shores!!!!!!!!!! I would buy one instantly, besides they're more reliable than anything with a bowtie on it, and more reliable than chrysler too, but that hardly needed to be said. Not to mention probably more safe than toyota is at the moment, and look at how many cars they sell
I drove a brand new top of the line Alfa Romeo 147 in Mexico. It's like having a volvo c30 with an interior designed and appointed by Ferrari. What a fantastic car for the money. If they can shake the image, they will do very well here.
first I would like to say that it's just a myth and legend that italian cars are unreliable, in my family (me,dad, mom, uncle...) we all drive italian cars, my dad drives only italian cars for almost 40 years ( ! ) and we don't have no problems with the cars... every car must be maintained properly and it will run with no problems, we sold a 91 Croma a 15 years ago and it still runs with no problems even after more than 600000 km... my neighbour already has had 2 engine swaps on a Merc CLS320
I wouldn't mind a Punto Evo, 500 Abarth or a Croma. If Fiat wants sucess in the USA, then they should start with those 3 models, put diesel versions in all of those label them as "green" and the rest as performance Abarth variants and then they're good to go.
I think that they should bring to U.S. not FIAT but Abarth. 500 and Grande Punto with 1.4T-Jet (135BHP in 500 / 155BHP in GP) are the only two cars that have any chance in USA. Rest of they lineup sucks.
Another thing is Alfa Romeo. They sell only 100.000 cars worldwide and U.S. market could save this brand.
Fiat actually uses "weekend" as a term for Estate...
the only new models of Fiat that MAY be interesting for Fiat in the USA are the 500, the Bravo, Grande Punto.
granted, the names aren't that good but the cars are ok... but didn't Fiat say they only wanted to bring the 500 and no others? I thought they WERE bringing Alfa to the US.... but I guess you have more info on this....
agree 99%... but the Punto can be a very nice car...there is a turbo version caled Punto Tjet. And also there is the Arbath version (witch is very nice).... i almost buy (in the past) one, the simple one... but i prefered the VW Polo...
is just a shame that cars in Brazil costs so much... (i payed more than 20000 for the Polo...)
in additon to Fiat they also would have difficulty bringing over some models because of their disel engines. And the multiplia looks like it was inbred with a pt cruiser and 80s fiat panda
159 at the end of it's life and about to be replaced. The punto is perfectly viable as a Fiesta Competitor The Bravo a good Focus etc competitor. Most of those Fiats were old versions. To dismiss these Models based on a google image search isn't exactly top notch journalism. The Panda is the car that saved Fiat and is a great little car, it's possibly not right for North America even though it would go directly against the Nissan Cube. (you photo was the 4x4 verison btw)
Wait a minute, the Punto in sport trim is actually pretty quick for a car that's supposed to compete with models like the Golf GTI or Citroen C4. Not as quick as a GTI. For something that's cheap from Italy, not bad.

Usually this segment is good, but this was just wasting time badmouthing Fiat. And you conveniently forgot the Fiat Chroma - even Michael Schumacher has one.
I'm really surprised at how many fiat models you completely ignored and wrote off as undesirable. I doubt you've driven any of the cars you said should not come to america, much less seen them in person. With the exception of the multiplia(ugly fucking dolphin car), I think that most of those fiat models have a future in the US market as they are affordable, nice to drive, comfortable, and practical. That being said, I think that Fiat has a better chance of survival here if they send Alfa first.
you have no clue, shit segment The fiat group make good cars. some of the photos were of generations old. you chat shit the whole time. I have no idea what this video is trying to say? YOU said the GT40 was american but you think lambo is now german? Retards hate this segment
The only reason that American cars got any better is simply because Americas population meant the manufacturers sold more cars then they bought other off shore manufacturers and sucked the life out of them. Now look at the world car climate and the fire sales about the place.
Hello America there is more to life than staring at blue lint!!!

@Gday2u if we have been playing catch up. how comes consumer reports an indepent consumer advice magazine rarely has european cars in its top ten most reliable car list. a lot of european cars may be more advanced but they tend to have more problems and cost way more to fix if they do have problems. porsche is the main exception i will say that. although they just recalled all the panameras
Alpha Romeo's are considered work of art, and you know art has no reason or function behind it mostly, for crying out loud the most famous work of art the Mona Lisa, nobody knows the reason behind her smile even Leonardo didn't knew what's the reason for her smile and the reason why he drew it in the first place. Now lets count how many female artist you know and how many female car enthusiast you know. So when you say a women is gonna choose alpha romeo over a pink VW beetle it pisses me off.
Drive a nice Fiat 124 Spider. 1969-1882, and get back to me on your opinion of Fiat.
Fiat built the single best small roadster of that era. The Alfa was a disaster compared to it, to maintain. The British had no answer at all. Don't tell me that the TR-7 is a good car, or the MG-B is really in the same class
The Fiat 124 Spider is a classic. Twin cam 4 cyl, with 4 disk brakes and a 5 speed right out of the box. Track times tell you it was good. and still is
There isn't a single A-R in the lineup that I wouldn't buy. For the love of god I hope they don't bring Lancia, they look like Korean knock offs of actual cars lol, they need to bring back old Lancia, start making the Delta Integrale again and keep winning in rally again. In short, if you're a woman buy the 500 so Fiat will bring Alfa over, if you're a man wait until they bring Alfa over then buy a 159 or a spider so all the ladies will flock to you :) perfect plan
I didn't realize there was gonna be pornography in this video, cuz thats exactly what showing a slid show of Alfa's is... and ya know who would be a more reliable girl friend a sexy supper model or the homely girl next door.... but we would all rather sleep with the supper model wouldn't we... They most certainly should bring Alfa's here.....
We have a lot of Alfa's over here. They are definitely beautiful, but the resale on them is horrendous.... it's not uncommon to see a 1-2 year old car being sold for 30-40% of it's original price. As for reliability, I see just as many Audi's & BMW's broken down as I do Alfa's.... so that's a moot point.
Man you guys did not do your homework on this one. If you say that historically italian cars are unreliable, then you have to acknowledge that alfa was second only to lancia in that department. Of course that's past now and modern engineering means they're as reliable as any other brand. Until recently, fiat was the best seller in european compact car markets. As for the Punto, that's the Intercontinental Rally Champion of 2006.
Also wait until you try the Fiat multijet diesel engines.
Funny how foreigners are always talking about how American cars are and so forth...but most foreign cars I see (aside from the big names bmw, benz, etc) ARE TOTAL CRAP..hence these cars above
I went and watched the preview for, "The Human Centipede".... and I am now confused about the validity of that movie; is that a real preview? Of a real movie or a joke movie??
I could not tell if it was an attempt 2 make fun of scary movies, or an attempt 2 create the funniest scary movie...... either way, all I could think after I watched that was, "did I just witness human beings that were connected at the anus and mouth?"... and where do Italian cars fit in?
@eeeen321 yes, it is a full movie, you could purchase it on HBO on demand a few weeks back. I didn't personally see it but a mate of mine was dumb/curious enough to spend 5 bucks on it and has been scarred ever since...
What about the Lancia Delta rebadged as a Chrysler that I saw at the Chicago Auto Show? I'm surprised that car wasn't mentioned at all. It's a unique-looking car that has a beautiful interior. I would consider one if it were to be sold here, granted it was priced competitively with other similar hatchbacks.
Sedici is 16, its a pun on 4x4, Its also not a Fiat, Its a Suzuki with Fiat Badges.
The Panda and The 500 have been part of a Fiat Renaissance here in the UK. Fiat had a really bad reputation for build quality and reliability. Surely its got to be easier to do something like that in the US where you couldn't Buy Fiats that earnt that reputation.
My Panda was put together alot better than my mums PT Cruiser.
@ConcealedSpade jesus where the hell does fiat plan to go with that? i doubt they can compare pricewise, and it is not even ok looking like the sx4. i think that is a completely pointless car and fiat should try harder.
God damn, I fucking love my Alfa Romeo. 1987 2.5L V6 Milano. And damn that shit can move. People sometimes laugh at me for owning an Italian car, but they can't even touch it in terms of style and power. Honestly, I can't think of many other better looking sedans, and you can't judge Alfas if you have never driven one. And I have not had one trouble with it, except for the dash looking like an epileptic's worst nightmare, but even that isn't all the time. JF, you need to drive before you decide.
@niceprince Fiesta will be a hit as long as they provide more than just the eco version; as much as the eco versions make up the majority of sales and are more relevant today, a few models would be very helpful in "spreading the word"... I have no doubt Ford will make a few models of the Fiesta and knock them outta the park.
On a side note: I just wish they would bring back SVT as a real contributor to the line up... Lets face it haters, SVT used 2 dominate every category they stepped into.
@ztunelover I should have clarified, IN the States.
-As far the USDM fwd King, AFTER the DC2 typeR, who has held the best handling FWD in the States?? (handling and vehicle dynamics are far more important than all out speed, IMO)
-Lightning destroyed all but the Syclone, which was close going both ways. (SRT10 came AFTER, in response to the Lighting, and then the new Lightning was chopped due to a nepotistic cunt).
-SVT Mustang (errr) and Contour were killers in THEIR category, at the time.
@eeeen321 .......and you gotta keep in mind the amount of time its been since SVT has had a real active role... the cars/tech I am using as examples are a decade or TWO old.... If SVT was making modern examples of what they used to do, they would be demanding much more performance respect. (Focusing solely on the Mustang can only get you so far.... but what an AWESOME step in the right direction)
These guys didn't research shit, Fiats most successful car is the Grande/Punto line and best looking (Ford Fiesta is based on the chasis) along with the Bravo & 500.They specialise in small cars, they have tried in europe releasing larger cars and trying new stuff but have learned from the mistake.
The Alfa line up shouldn't be brought to the US, it won't be appretiated.
it is multipla not multiplia, and yeah fiat's cars suck ass but are cheap, easy to run and service that is the point of their cars, my first uncle has a fiat punto, and all repairs are cheap, my other uncle had an alfa 156, a nice car but expensive to own, and used to brake down, the point is that if you want a cheap car that is easy to run buy a fiat, and if you need that it is not a bad car, but some face lift would be nice
Amazing looking car inside and out, nothing compares to it.
"more expensive to repair" isn't true either, depends on your location. Alfa's will be more expensive because parts are harder to get because of exclusivity.
I wasn't aware that Italian cars were seen as unreliable. But I live in the US and the only Italian cars that I've really heard about were Lamborghini and Ferrari... and the name Fiat, but that doesn't count.
Those Alfa Romeo cars were very sexy though! Assuming quality isn't an issue, they could sell very well!
@asdfgoogle I own an Alfa from the 80's back when they were still here. It's my first car (because my parents love me deeply enough to get an Italian car). It's a sexier sedan, in my eyes, than many of the cars on the road to today. And no one can judge Alfas without having owned one or at least driving one. Truly remarkable experience. They have sublime handling...
not to be rude but i dont get why u attempt an italian accent when saying the names of the alfas, fiats and the rest of the fiat group car names. Imagine how ridiculous it would be if you said the names of Japanese cars in japaneese accents.
+whats wrong with the fiats? When im in America i see loads of shit from asia thats not different from a Panda, or Punto. U might not want them as badly as u want an alfa, but to be honest thats the sort of car people need, and in a recession people buy.
@budul5 most rubbish thing I've heard in a while. Since 2005 alfa scores amongs the top german brands, even higher than VW and BMW on terms of reliability.
I've owned 2 alfa's and neither of them had things go wrong.
How many have you owned and exactly how have they let you down?
100k miles... yeah right, so they fail just after warranty?
you guys could of made today's topic about infiniti.. just like yall did with bmw.. infiniti has gone from only selling their cars in the U.S. to world wide now.... CAN WE EXPLORE THAT.....
Fiat should keep their models out and start with their co-products, once the market has gain some ground you introduce them to their hideous model that i am sure there is plenty of hillbillies will buy them, because no one in their right mind would even contemplate the idea of buying such horrendous cars.
even if alfas are more expensive to repair, they cost a shitload less than audis and bmws. btw, i would buy an alfa over the german ones and i'm a man.
Alfa now resorting to using Chrysler platforms to improve reliability? If anyone hasn't heard, the Alfa 169 is slated to use the Dodge Charger/Dodge Magnum/Chrysler 300 chassis....Not saying it isn't possible, but...yikes!
You guys are just fiat bashing their old models may be bad but don't forget the new croma and the bravo as well as the new punto evo not half as bad as the monsters you showed... they've had a bit of an identity crisis ... Alfa Romeo though :) ain't arguing with that absolutely love the new 159
ill tell you what ...that multiplia looks like a pontiac aztec fucked a 90s toyota minivan and they came up with that shit. Like you guys i never cared for any fiat i saw ever ..... not even the 500 theyre way too many silly little girly cars running around the roads today. the shit needs to stop. alfa is just as bad an idea as fiat would be thier cars are either too exotic or too hot hatchy.... both brands are just plain unamerican ..
Grande Punto is not that bad! Believe me!
The Multipla like this is not manufactured since long time.
Idea is only popular in Italy. The one on that photo has polish plate, but you hardly get to see one there.
Italian cars are reliable
BTW Cadillac BLS is based on 159's chassis...

They most certainly should bring Alfa's here.....
hockeythug9 1 year ago
We have a lot of Alfa's over here. They are definitely beautiful, but the resale on them is horrendous.... it's not uncommon to see a 1-2 year old car being sold for 30-40% of it's original price. As for reliability, I see just as many Audi's & BMW's broken down as I do Alfa's.... so that's a moot point.

However I do agree that Alfa is the brand to use to penetrate the vastly different american market.
johnyqtx 1 year ago
Man you guys did not do your homework on this one. If you say that historically italian cars are unreliable, then you have to acknowledge that alfa was second only to lancia in that department. Of course that's past now and modern engineering means they're as reliable as any other brand. Until recently, fiat was the best seller in european compact car markets. As for the Punto, that's the Intercontinental Rally Champion of 2006.
Also wait until you try the Fiat multijet diesel engines.

Ok Alex,
I went and watched the preview for, "The Human Centipede".... and I am now confused about the validity of that movie; is that a real preview? Of a real movie or a joke movie??
I could not tell if it was an attempt 2 make fun of scary movies, or an attempt 2 create the funniest scary movie...... either way, all I could think after I watched that was, "did I just witness human beings that were connected at the anus and mouth?"... and where do Italian cars fit in?
...oh wait.......
eeeen321 1 year ago 10

JF, you need to drive before you decide.
mynameisnotalfredo 1 year ago
I hope they don't bring ANYTHING. I just don't see how they could make it in the USA. They should see what happens with the fiesta.
niceprince 1 year ago
@niceprince Fiesta will be a hit as long as they provide more than just the eco version; as much as the eco versions make up the majority of sales and are more relevant today, a few models would be very helpful in "spreading the word"... I have no doubt Ford will make a few models of the Fiesta and knock them outta the park.
On a side note: I just wish they would bring back SVT as a real contributor to the line up... Lets face it haters, SVT used 2 dominate every category they stepped into.
eeeen321 1 year ago
@eeeen321 really? I would like to see all the categories svt entered.
ztunelover 1 year ago
@ztunelover I should have clarified, IN the States.
-As far the USDM fwd King, AFTER the DC2 typeR, who has held the best handling FWD in the States?? (handling and vehicle dynamics are far more important than all out speed, IMO)
-Lightning destroyed all but the Syclone, which was close going both ways. (SRT10 came AFTER, in response to the Lighting, and then the new Lightning was chopped due to a nepotistic cunt).
-SVT Mustang (errr) and Contour were killers in THEIR category, at the time.
eeeen321 1 year ago
@eeeen321 .......and you gotta keep in mind the amount of time its been since SVT has had a real active role... the cars/tech I am using as examples are a decade or TWO old.... If SVT was making modern examples of what they used to do, they would be demanding much more performance respect. (Focusing solely on the Mustang can only get you so far.... but what an AWESOME step in the right direction)
eeeen321 1 year ago
These guys didn't research shit, Fiats most successful car is the Grande/Punto line and best looking (Ford Fiesta is based on the chasis) along with the Bravo & 500.They specialise in small cars, they have tried in europe releasing larger cars and trying new stuff but have learned from the mistake.
The Alfa line up shouldn't be brought to the US, it won't be appretiated.
JammerBD 1 year ago
it is multipla not multiplia, and yeah fiat's cars suck ass but are cheap, easy to run and service that is the point of their cars, my first uncle has a fiat punto, and all repairs are cheap, my other uncle had an alfa 156, a nice car but expensive to own, and used to brake down, the point is that if you want a cheap car that is easy to run buy a fiat, and if you need that it is not a bad car, but some face lift would be nice
Opsilon89 1 year ago
I love my 159, did 210k miles in my last one.
Amazing looking car inside and out, nothing compares to it.
"more expensive to repair" isn't true either, depends on your location. Alfa's will be more expensive because parts are harder to get because of exclusivity.
ZesPak 1 year ago
I wasn't aware that Italian cars were seen as unreliable. But I live in the US and the only Italian cars that I've really heard about were Lamborghini and Ferrari... and the name Fiat, but that doesn't count.
Those Alfa Romeo cars were very sexy though! Assuming quality isn't an issue, they could sell very well!
asdfgoogle 1 year ago
