No. You keep the envelope. You are giving them practice on deciding what to do & when to do it. It is childish behavior to act without thinking. But exercises like this teach kids to do things at the right time, which might involve waiting. If the kid decides to wait, that means they have chosen to wait for the gratification of having the envelope in their own hands, and thus in their control. Remember, the adult has given the child the choice, in other words, the control is actually shared.
