@Trude174 I wish I could have met Dick Winters, I live only 45 minutes from Hershey but I didn't watch the series until late 2011 :/ He died a year and 5 days ago, and his birthday comes up in 11 days.
I find it telling that not one single man celebrates or cheers when told about the war being over. Despite how great this series was, there's no way I could ever understand what they went through. They are deserving of every iota of my respect and everyone elses.
It utterly astounds me that this company was not awarded the Medal Of Honour not because the lost men or were braver or more aggressive but because they epitpmise the courage in normality that ordinary soldiers in the forces even today possess, whether it be Iraq ,Afhghanistan,or long ago in the frozen foxholes of Bastonge....Honour Them!!!
The war ended a long time ago. But when you think German, remember this clip. If these young men had not orevailed on those northern French beaches and further inland in 1944-45, our world today would be a very different place. God bless them all and all their countries. And the next time some French peasant refuses to speak English to you, just remind them that these guys had no such problem being understood. Saving their cheese-eating arses.
An amazing mini-series. It gave me insight and perspective of WW2 like no other movie, book, documentary etc. One of the best endings of any program or movie too.
I really love this mine series. I still watching this mini series every 6-8moths and every time i just feel more and more respect for men of easy company. And i am disapointed that i live in Lithuanian and cant tell when what respect i have for them. If i would live in USA i really would go to vet's and thank them that i can enjoy live withat war.
Major Winters is one of the best men ever been a live what he did and hes company is so damm great for the freedom i cant say anyting else that he is a man you need to respect he is a Hero nothing else to say about him rest in peace my Hero and i hope every one know now much he and easy company did for freedom
Well done....thanks for producing this. We cannot possibly understand the bravery of the men of Easy Company and all of those who fought in WWII. The world owes them a debt of gratitude, honor and remembrance. Truly the greatest generation. Easy Company led by a man who inspired his men to do the impossible time and again all the while being humble and selfless. RIP Major Winters, we will never forget you.
Also like saving privite Ryan I think everyone does and I also like the pacific , Letters From Iwo Jima, The Great Escape (long movie kind of boring a bitter sweet end not really a war movie but its a true story about a POW camp escape (POW/ Prisinors Of War)
I just love this show as well as ( U-571/Nazi u boat movie in the end only 8 American men survive the Captian dies but they destroyed a submarine and destroyer and brought back secret German documents of course they where rescued when they had to abandon ship if you've seen it and liked it thumbs up if not see it right now!
I m British , well welsh really , i v got the CD compilation of Band Of Brother which i cherish ! , i m in my 30 s but i so admire what the young American soldiers did in the final months of WW2 , they put their lives on the line ! , that s bravery ! , and nobody showed it more than Major Richard Winters and his company of men , true heroes . The final scenes of B O B cut me to the bone ! , i dare anyone to say that they don t cry like a baby ! , thank u all and god bless u .
every time I see this movie, especially this last part, I get the biggest knot in my throat. Im not a tough guy but not a baby either and I very rarely feel like crying but boy when Winters says that last part I damn near cry a river. God bless all of them.
This is the best part of band of brothers for me. EVerytime I watch, it's a journey. And this ending is all too amazing, the lasts words that Damien Lewis are amazing...
I cry every time I watch this. "Grandpa were you a hero in the war? Grandpa said no.... but I served in a company of heroes." RIP Major Richard Winters.
My respect to Major Richard Dick winters. Band of brothers is my most favourite world war 2 movie/story. I have watched it over a hundred times and I can still watch it over a hundred years. Never saw a bond between men so close as Easy company from the 506e 101rst airborne devision.
By the way, I saw bill guarnere speaking at the end he lost 1 leg I believe ?
Major Richard Winters is the epitome of a leader. Intelligent, brave, resolute and a devotion to his men that lasted well into to his older years. No wonder he was so well respected by his men. He was a REAL soldier.
if you are a real American you wont have a problem sheding a tear of two when the last few words are said. im not a tuff guy but im not a baby either but boy that line gets me everytime no matter what im feeling.
@hockey4able american? If your a human being you will know and understand just what these guys did for us to be in the world we live in today. MAJOR respect to Dick Wintors :/ R.I.P
No matter how many times I see the last words of Major Winters in this amazing series of events I can't help but shed a tear! God bless you all. What you have all done has made my life what it is. Never forgotten, always remembered.
Dear God , Please keep this man and his friends safe, warm and in one piece. He was one of ours and now hes one of Yours. Take good care of him. thanks.
I had just begun to do research on this subject, just finished the series, and just now found out Major Winters passed. A truly heroic and honorable man, soldier, and leader, may he rest in peace.
@lurkula D-day plus 24,316 to be exact; great way to honor him. I would bet there are few soldiers who made a greater impact on this world and the people who knew him in those 24,316 days since D-Day than Dick Winters. RIP, Sir. You will never be forgotten.
on january 2nd 2011 Major Richard ( Dick) Winters died.
a great man who lead by example an inspiration for officers and men.
its a shame God needed him in heaven already, but i'm shore he's with the rest of E company and all the others of the 506th who where already there before him.
rest in peace Sir.
thank you and all the other American soldiers who came to my county Holland)and liberate us from the germans.
They truly were the greatest generation. I remember my grandfather telling me stories of the WWII and the journey that unfolded for the men he served alongside. He has since long past as now is Major Winters but no matter how how long it has been since our grandfathers, fathers, brothers, sons and friends fought in that war, we will never forget the what they did for us, for the world. Thank you and god speed Major Winters.
Heros all of them I cry involutrarily because I love them all They gave us our lives. War creates a comradery a bond between brothers that no civilian can ever understand of penetrate. If you dont cry when watching this movie you are not patriotic something is wrong with you.
I give my undivided respect to the men of easy company, it makes me sad when i see people arguing over whos countrys better and who has a better army, because in the end these men went through so much for thier country and for what they belived in that it should put all those who make comments like that to shame.
@colzimo YOU FORGET, WE DIDN'T HAVE TO FIGHT . WE DID AND HELP SAVE THE WORLD. THE RUSSIAN FRONT ? THEY HAD NO CHOICE , THEY HAD TO FIGHT. WE DID NOT. RUSSIA WOULD BE PART OF GERMANY TODAY IF WE HADN'T FOUGHT.
Thank God (and the US) that these young men prevailed on those northern beaches of France and subsequent battles so long ago. For if they had not, and the Germans had won, our world would be a very different place. God bless them all.
The next time you hear someone bagging the US, take a moment and think of those magnificent young Americans whose exploits on those northern French shores so many years ago helped us here today to 'enjoy a world without war'.
My Uncle served w/ Special Forces in Vietnam. When he spoke of the men he served with,he said that they were brave beyond whatever was expected of any soldier.War,unlike anyother experience you may have, leaves a mark on your soul you'll never be able to erase. The memories of these Vets are as fresh as if it happened to them last month, and will be so until they pass. They may deal with their memories in different ways, but they're allways there.God bless them for their service, grant them peace.
I always cry manly tears when I see this scene. I'm not even American, and my country (Finland) was co-belligerent of the Nazi Germany, but that doesn't change anything. Greatest series of all time.
Us Fins were pulled to war against our will. We were only afraid of the Soviets and tried to ally with the Brits etc first, but we were turned down. We had no choices but to ally with the Germans. And we absolutely didn't share the Nazi ideology.
No need to explain Finlands choices here...claiming Finland "co-belligerent" is a Finnish way of evading the fact that the Finns were fighting with the Germans for mainly the same cause i.e. destruction of USSR (which is the good part of it! IMO)
Read some history books. We were seeking for German backup in spring/summer 1940, eager to get back what was lost in winter 1940. At no time we were looking for an alliance with UK
I agree on one thing : the scene brings tears to my eyes too.
@JyppeP I watched the film, "The Winter War", featuring your country men fighting against the soviets. You don't even need to explain why your country's alignment was the case; the soviets were bastards. Your country men fought patriotically to preserve your autonomy. Thats the bottom line, my friend.
One of the best examples of great televison every produced. A salute to all involved, esepcially Tom Hanks, Steven Speilberg and Captain Dale Dye. Every time I view the series, I think about how much better a life I should try to live, to honor those who've fought in my name. God bless all the veterans!
I was driving home to Ft Campbell and stopped at a Rest Stop, and met one of the men from Easy Company headed to a reunion, he noticed my 101st Airborne sticker and told be about Bastogne and D Day and his experiences there. Was something to be in the site of that man, to hear his story gave me the inspiration to remain in the service and be a better man and soldier, these men are truly hero's
It would be equally nice if the Germans made their own version of Band of Brothers, something like ”Wir waren wie Brüder” . The unit could be for example Luftlande-Sturm-Regiment 1 which captured the Eben Emael fort in 1940... But I´m afraid contemporary Germans feel too uneasy with producing any movies/series showing Germans as heroes. I wish they forgot their guilt for a while and pay tribute for the brave German soldiers too!
I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up in the generation that BoB depicted, and I really wish I had. My grandfather served in the Army during WWII. I haven't read the book by Tom Brokaw named "The Greatest Generation", but I truly believe it was the greatest generation. It was a time when everyone looked out for their fellow man, instead of only looking out for themselves.
It is a crying shame that so many have sacrificed their lives for things that so many are now willing to give up.
the only thing i dont get about this is they forget alot of people? they didnt mention heffron, popeye, garcia, cobb, malarkey, toye or gaunere, i know that toye and guarnere were injured and malarkey was transfered and garcia hashey and heffron were replacements but still other than that it was the best finale ever!!
@MickityMickMick04 they cant they could only show the people playing baseball, like u said guanrere and toye were RTUèd Malarkey wasnèt there anymore and heffron and hashey had enough points to go home
@AssassinateThisEzio u dont have the right to tell hime to stop it . Dick winters served this country honorably . Its bc of men like him that assholes like u can live freely with out fear u should greatful for ur freedom
Just finished watching the series tonight - had to watch this scene again. No other words other than what a truly beautiful poignant ending to an amazing series and document to the bravery and honour of these men.
66 years ago tonight my Great Uncle Lt. Joe McGregor was part of Pathfinder Security 501PIR in Normandy, eventually KIA 9th January 1945.......Never forgotten!
I will post this on my page in honor of my father this Memorial Day. He was in Korea Marine 1st Division. Called themselves "The Frozen Chosin" A Band of Brothers. My father was a hero. I lost my dad Jan. 1 2010 @ dawn. I come to this video and I see my father and it is difficult. He fought a good fight. He is a Marine always a Marine. Love you Daddy, your daughter
"The Pacific" just wasn't as good. This is a high standard. The lives of the soldiers in The Pacific weren't connected in one company as in "Band," so it was a difficult stretch to see it as a whole.
@bt10ant It's a whole different beast. I'm not really sure the two stories can be related. The war in the Pacific was completely different from the European theater of war. The Marines faced a different enemy, and they were in unfamiliar territory. The Pacific does well in what it seeks to portray, and that is the brutality of war from both sides. Both are remarkable series in their own merit.

Your service and the service of your men will be remembered.
You never counted your self as a Hero, but for millions of people you personify a true Hero.
Rest in Peace Sir.

I give my undivided respect to the men of easy company, it makes me sad when i see people arguing over whos countrys better and who has a better army, because in the end these men went through so much for thier country and for what they belived in that it should put all those who make comments like that to shame.

It's not often I comment on the likes or dislikes on a video, but what two people in their right mind could dislike this video?! Idiots.

I'm from Austria and the soldiers in the video are the reasoen why I could write these lines at a pc in a free country.

Simply the greatest portrayal of soldiers ever brought to the screen. Even better than Saving Private Ryan, if that's possible.

JyppeP 1 year ago 2
@JyppeP
Paska10 1 year ago

Was something to be in the site of that man, to hear his story gave me the inspiration to remain in the service and be a better man and soldier, these men are truly hero's
sully0001 1 year ago

The lives of the soldiers in The Pacific weren't connected in one company as in "Band," so it was a difficult stretch to see it as a whole.
bt10ant 1 year ago
@bt10ant It's a whole different beast. I'm not really sure the two stories can be related. The war in the Pacific was completely different from the European theater of war. The Marines faced a different enemy, and they were in unfamiliar territory. The Pacific does well in what it seeks to portray, and that is the brutality of war from both sides. Both are remarkable series in their own merit.
