Everyone was hoping for a brand new revolutionary phone and all they got was a slightly upgraded iPhone 4s. CASUAL phone users think MP's are everything when they are not. MP's are for people looking to print out their photos. Android as the leader/winner is better for the consumer. If iphone wins in a big way it kills competition. If android wins in a major way it encourages competition. Android is open source and there are tons of ways it can be used to make many different devices by many different companies. .

Hate to tell you but android has already taken over. They have one thing that apple just doesn't have. CHOICE!!!! So many different manufacturers that all have their own unique imprint on the os. Right now I'm still using my DROID x and it still holds up great. I will definitely be upgrading to the galaxy nexus or the razr within the next week . Like I said earlier, android users have choice. Whether it's htc, Motorola, lg, samsung, etc. You can pick a phone that fits you.
At no point in this "race" is any company or OS going to be leading by far. In the future I can see apple bringing out a new iPhone every 3 months just to compete. Mobile technology is moving very quickly and if apple wants to keep up they will probably need more devices.

The specs are better on the Nexus, and the OS is far more customizable than IOS. However, there is a major Apple store in my city, and it seems that people around me think of smart phones as either the newest iPhone, or "another phone". I'm almost positive a lot of my friends would like the Nexus, but it would be nice to have a local Android store so people could try it out.

@drogezombie the nexus may not be the best hardware wise but the fact the nexus will receive updates directly from google, android 4.0 is a big improvement and all the UI's especially HTC's is really taxing on the phone.
The Galaxy Nexus will never take out the iPhone. Could Android take it out? Yes. Could one single Android device like the Galaxy Nexus do it? Absolutely not. For one, there are dozens upon dozens of Android devices, so people will be buying other phones. Another reason the Nexus can't do it is because it costs $300 on contract for the base model with a contract. I don't think a Nexus device will ever do it, because there are cheaper devices out there the public will buy.
Android vs iOS is the new Mac vs PC. Those with iPhones truly appreciate them, while people with Android are usually just people who want "just a smart phone".

Samsung make the iPhone killer devices. It's only a matter of time until they design a premium looking phone like the iPhone and run ICS on it. For me, most geeks would have a android device, the iPhone's UI, whilst easy to use gets very boring. Google have made brilliant software, in my view so much better then iOS. Still the best phone would have to be Galaxy S II, running pure ICS rom on Galaxy S II would be unbeatable.

@dazzjet Have you heard of Dreamboard? It allows for advanced customizing on the iPhone. You can have real widgets like on Android, you can make the iPhone UI just like Windows Phone 7, Android, Mac OS X, Windows etc. And I'm not talking about just the background and app icons, but many of the themes have tools that function like their counterpart on the other platform, for example the Finder in the Mac OS theme.

Nothing is going to take out the iPhone. Sure current iPhone might be diminished by a new Android device, but when a new iPhone comes out then everyone is trying to diminish it again. This is why Apple is a fundamental competition in tech.

A phone that sells more than any other doesn't mean it's not a disappointment. We were expecting the iPhone 5 with some better features. We got less, therefore it's a disappointment. Honestly, from the things that I have heard about the management of Android by Google and by the carriers, I think Android may not be the iOS killer. Android is supposed to be an open platform, but it's really only an open platform when Google feels like making it open, and the users at the mercy of their carrier in terms of whether they can get newer versions or so on. Sounds to me like what we need is a truly open, COMMUNITY BASED platform.
I've heard both good and bad things about both platforms, but I've heard of more security holes, dismal apps, and privacy invasion (staged by carriers, CARRIERS) on Android than I have on iOS. Until recently I never used either platform, so I can't be called an expert, but I think that iOS wins (for now) in terms of security and best app selection (or so I have heard) and Android wins on customizability and flexibility.
The only reason Apple is "better" is because of its popularity and hype. I.E I asked my mom what smartphone she wanted and she replied with a iPhone.she's not a tech person but the only reason she wanted it was she thought since others have it..it was cool and was the best same sit. The Galaxy Nexus is overhyped and overrated. (Much like the iPhone)
It's not a great of a device as everyone says it is.
In fact, the HTC Rezound is a MUCH better phone and it does take out the iPhone.
In specs, performance and overall OS.

@drogezombie the nexus may not be the best hardware wise but the fact the nexus will receive updates directly from google, android 4.0 is a big improvement and all the UI's especially HTC's is really taxing on the phone.

The Galaxy Nexus will never take out the iPhone. Could Android take it out? Yes. Could one single Android device like the Galaxy Nexus do it? Absolutely not. For one, there are dozens upon dozens of Android devices, so people will be buying other phones. Another reason the Nexus can't do it is because it costs $300 on contract for the base model with a contract. I don't think a Nexus device will ever do it, because there are cheaper devices out there the public will buy.

The iPhone is simply beautiful. Its so shiny and smooth. And it has the pretty Apple logo. Because of this, the iPhone is the best. It goes with my entire wardrobe and when I am in public I make sure thepeople can see my iPhone so they know that my shit doesn't stink. Quad core aluminum unibody HTC Nexus device with a 4.7 inch screen running at least ice cream sandwich with a ppi of over 300 with as good a speaker as the iPhone, and the iPhone's camera quality. I would buy this phone. Oh while I'm at it, make it dual bootable with windows phone 7. I would leave my iPhone for such a device. Market it really well, show off the slick UI of android 4.0 a lot, and the video calling and such, oh is facetime still going open source? Anyway that phone would race well

Samsung make the iPhone killer devices. It's only a matter of time until they design a premium looking phone like the iPhone and run ICS on it. For me, most geeks would have a android device, the iPhone's UI, whilst easy to use gets very boring. Google have made brilliant software, in my view so much better then iOS. Still the best phone would have to be Galaxy S II, running pure ICS rom on Galaxy S II would be unbeatable.
It's only a matter of time before the make better hardware..

@dazzjet Have you heard of Dreamboard? It allows for advanced customizing on the iPhone. You can have real widgets like on Android, you can make the iPhone UI just like Windows Phone 7, Android, Mac OS X, Windows etc. And I'm not talking about just the background and app icons, but many of the themes have tools that function like their counterpart on the other platform, for example the Finder in the Mac OS theme.

Nothing is going to take out the iPhone. Sure current iPhone might be diminished by a new Android device, but when a new iPhone comes out then everyone is trying to diminish it again. This is why Apple is a fundamental competition in tech.

As a believer in competition, I don't understand the obsession with the terms "take out" and "iphone killer".
The iPhone set the bar 4 years ago, I feel it only in 2011 has been met through both the android platform maturing and the hardware improving. I honestly look forward to this sort of race carrying on for years.
I'm still debating the advantages and disadvantages of 4S and Sensation XE for my upgrade from HTC Hero, Oddly ease of use isn't on my list of priorities.

Hey Chris, while the Galaxy Nexus does have the "Galaxy"name attached, it also has the "Nexus" name attached. This means it gets Google updates. So, your comment implying OS fragmentation being "part of the Android experience" because Samsung isn't updating certain Galaxy devices wouldn't affect it... A phone that sells more than any other doesn't mean it's not a disappointment. We were expecting the iPhone 5 with some better features. We got less, therefore it's a disappointment. It's not a bad phone; it's a great phone because it's the latest iPhone with a tad more. However, we were expecting our mind to be blown.
The iPhone 3GS is a great phone with iOS 5. Bring it out at the next Apple keynote and I can assure you it'll be a disappointing great phone. It'll probably still sell out.

I am an apple fan boy and I just recently sold my iPhone 4s to get a Galaxy Nexus. I think this was a good decision. Apple really needs to make the screen bigger on the iPhone. The only people who will say the screen is perfect are the ones who have never used a bigger screen. And iOS even though its much smoother than android I really think ICS is very close to being up to par with iOS.iOS is also VERY boring. With my android I can make the phone look any way I want, and if I get bored i change

Honestly, from the things that I have heard about the management of Android by Google and by the carriers, I think Android may not be the iOS killer. Android is supposed to be an open platform, but it's really only an open platform when Google feels like making it open, and the users at the mercy of their carrier in terms of whether they can get newer versions or so on. Sounds to me like what we need is a truly open, COMMUNITY BASED platform.

I've heard both good and bad things about both platforms, but I've heard of more security holes, dismal apps, and privacy invasion (staged by carriers, CARRIERS) on Android than I have on iOS. Until recently I never used either platform, so I can't be called an expert, but I think that iOS wins (for now) in terms of security and best app selection (or so I have heard) and Android wins on customizability and flexibility.
