One thing you didn't mention here (to do with the generic ident of 89) was that it WAS shown in the Granada region but without the ident...it had the ITV blue bit on the top of the 'v' instead. I remember this because I went down to London that year and was very disappointed when I saw they had the same ident going on for Thames/LWT when I had thought it was exclusive to Granada. I don't know how long it was shown here for though.
... xDD I was like..5-6 when those mid-90s ones came on, but I remember being terrified of them when the ident froze one day and you could only see the arrow of the logo. xDD And therefore grew a five year old's fear of the Granada logo.
I was never scared of the Granada logo, Yorkshire Television scared the shit out of me though, when they were no longer able to scare Britain's children with their ident they made the most terrifying children's television programme ever, The Riddlers.... *shivers*
One wonders what Yorkshire were thinking when they made that monstrosity, from what I can gather not a single child (or cub in my case) in the country wasn't scared of them. The theme tune was probably the worst part.
The theme tune..ugh. I still get made fun of by my family for being terrified of the theme tune. You have to also wonder what Yorkshire were thinking when they thought the puppets would be appealing to kids
The thing I hate about the theme tune is the fact that it's deceptive, it starts of nicely enough and you think it's going to be a nice brass band piece, then the electric guitar kicks in and the creepy puppets appear. I never really liked puppet shows anyway, I always preferred cartoons.
Love the bit around 4:00!

Those early 90s one always made me wonder why the logo was slightly horizontally stretched for no reason.

I remember these idents like it was yesterday. The translucent 'G' / clouds one reminds me of summer mornings, post TV-AM...
Excellent as always - roll on the TV-AM retrospective.
