Nationality isn't the first concern when casting a part. It's the actor's ability to get under the skin of the role. Eddie Izzard happened to be the best man for the job. He's English, but so what, he can put on an accent.

thats not wat i ment i know they do casting by ability of acting but my complaint was more wining then realy asking. i just have a thing about people doing roles that require a fake acent it just anoys me if you see wat i mean.

A couple things- one, the entire process of choosing actors is entirely haphazard, culminating in one powerful, central person saying "I liked him in ______" and "feeling" this guy would be right for the role (sight unseen).

Second, you cannot be American or Canadian because you'd know Izzard has one of the worst accents since Liam Neeson. Utterly dreadful, could only fool a Newfie or a Brit. But he does good standup, which one powerbroker saw, and said "I like him". Poof, it's that simple.
