  • I've watched this like a million times since 2008 when I first watched the series from start to finish. NOT ONCE. DID I LEAVE THIS VIDEO TEARLESS.

And then I read Trigun Maximum. And cried even more. T_T

  • I.... STILL cry to this.

  • there is nothing worse than looking back on your life from your deathbed and finding nothing but regret.

  • This is one of the very few anime scenes that made me shed a manly tear.

  • I have never gotten so emotional over a death in an anime in my entire life. I started watching this series on a whim, to be honest, I never in my wildest dreams expected it to be packed with so much meaning :(

  • Here leaves one of the bests...

  • His death in "Trigun Maximum" was pretty powerful as well.

  • I think the reason this scene is so powerful is because this is what people fear the most just before they die: The fear and doubt that they did not do enough for others and have wasted their life.

  • @katysautismvlog so true

  • anyone know the song that plays when hes in the church

  • @asiangamers32

Its from the original soundtrack. Its called Rakuen (Paradise)

  • This ranks among the few moments in TV/Movies that have simply blown me away. Such a powerful moment.

  • Funnyjunk :D

  • i find the manga death sadder

  • the manga death is pretty sad too

  • I've seen the whole series twice. And I still don't know how wolfwood knew about knives.

  • @TheMurphyable It's because he never was on Vash's side, He grew to care about him and both the girls. So he chose them, he was supposed to guide him to Knives to get him killed

  • @TheMurphyable Wolfwood worked for Chapel the Evergreen who was one of the Gung-Ho Guns. Knives basically told Chapel to get Vash to him, and Chapel handed down the assignment to Wolfwood. So Wolfwood was basically working for Knives

  • @TheMurphyable Read the manga But how does wolfwood know about knives? 1. Knives created the gun ho guns. 2. Chapel kidnapped the orphans that wolfwood was keeping care of. 3. Chapel used Wolfwood to direct Vash to knives. 4. If you listened carefully wolfwood says things like "We'll I'll be damned, there is another way" meaning he watched Vash and figured he has a different way to save people. Did you not see foreshadowing "Murder machine" as the title wolfwood appeared in?

  • this scene never fails to make me cry.

  • I've never even watched Trigun, and I shed a single tear.

  • You could put "*SPOILER ALERT*" in the title...

  • @keyfamily I believe it's not a spoiler if the item in question reveals plot from something that ended about 14 years ago...

  • @keyfamily You could not watch videos which would be obvious spoilers...

  • This scene always gets me... One of the saddest scenes ever in all the Anime's I've ever seen imo... ):

  • Doesn't that flashback of Milly saying something about "Cigarettes are bad for the baby, honey" come from that time she and Wolfwood helped the Moore girl out? That was when Moore hid under Milly's dress, which made her look really pregnant. Wolfwood and Milly (all preggered) looked like a couple...

  • @SoulRipper66 Except Grave was less of a talker

  • @berserkerxx ya that happens when u die then get back and find no vash around n shit :D

  • anyone think if he didnt go to the church and let himself bleed to death he would have survived?? Not to insult his memory RIP Wolfwood, one of my favorite characters ever. I still remember when they first met him he said something like "Im not gonna die, PRAISE THE LORD"

  • When i saw His Death I Screamed *Ahem* FUCK YOU ANIME!

  • Comment removed

  • I love the cry of " I don't want to die!" Most deaths don't seem to touch into the unfulfilled desires of someone who dies, and it's beautiful.

  • But, how did he die? He had poison or too many wounds or what?

  • @LordTrivium89 he was gonna leave, but legato used his powers to take control of Chapel the evergreen's body so that he would raise his gun and shoot wolfwood when his back was turned, he would have survived if legato hadn't steeped in

  • GREAT NICOLAS preacher D. Wolfwood RIP always. beautifull song We all cried for a Animation, because it teaches us many human values, not learn in school. while vash is destined to live forever in time....

  • @SOPHOST "A being who lives outside of time" as one of the guys from the cities called Vash

  • @paranoidindustries O.O¿ ....

  • i cry every time. :(

  • wat is that song called?! i love that guitar!

  • @charlierayp It's called "Rakuen (Paradise)" the composer is Tsuneo Imahori. ^_^

  • @Arrowet thanks bro!

  • He died and gave birth 2 Gun Grave

  • @SoulRipper66 what would kinda make sense

  • @StrangeFilm Well did u c gun grave its like his huge ass cross became a coffin and his small guns became huge

  • what the... shat should i do to be the 77, 777th viewer??? grr. aww wolfwood.. T^T

  • I'm sorry, but it has to be said: Wolfwood dies like a punk in the anime. However, in the manga, he dies like a BOSS.

  • Shit man... I kinda feel like an asshole for liking this.. tough call...

  • Comment removed

  • whats the song name

  • Hard to find a better moment than this.

  • "I did not want to die this way."

Yeah but with that kind of lifestyle..............

  • It's heavy- because it's so full of mercy.

  • This always makes me cry like a little girl.

  • I kinda like in the manga hes not a preist. But a super human 16 year old boy. That only looks like hes in his thirties and just pretends to be a preist. And he doesnt work help the orphans he was a orphan 4 years when the anime starts and 6 when he dies. (god is he young when he dies...)

  • @metallavery does the manga end different?

  • @THEDEATHCODE20XX .... the anime ended in 1998. The manga ended 10 years later in 2008. What do you think? but yes, in fact the entier siereis is different. similar but varyV different. He was actual never a preist in the manga. Also about 14, 16 when he died and 12, 14 when he met ash. Also wolf wood and the girls are alot like brothers and sisters to Vash.

  • @metallavery ok so hows it end?

  • @metallavery the second manga ended 10 years later, the anime follows the story of the first one.

  • @manodoedgar Kinda... not really. it takes parts from the beginning of the second one. alot of characters are different and the drive of the everything is different. even early on in both manga and anime are different.

Its not like FMA where the anime stays true to the manga even when they go off track. it still feals lik FMA. Unlike Trigun where they feal like there unrelated.

  • I held up until "I'm sorry honey." Then... TT__TT

  • surprisingly, I cried so much when I first saw this at about age 11 and didn't understand the story as well as I do now, looking back at an older age I didn't cry, but I was teary eyed and it felt like my heart strings were being yanked out

  • Fuck you Legato, you god damn bastard.

  • :') He's not ready to go. It breaks my heart

  • His death was so much more powerful and emotional in Japanese.

  • and so ends a hero. good bye wolfwood.

  • so bad to see this character die. what was evn worse was mily's reaction. it's no secret her & wolfwood were meant for each other

  • Wolfwood died protecting his friends and his gf/baby as a family man. >:)

  • @nerv4ever There is no child. Watch episode 11 ("Escape From Pain").

  • Even though it was a cartoon, whenever i see this scene, its so sad! Almost make me wanna cry over a damn cartoon! The part where he says "Was everything I did in my life a mistake?" and he starts crying, that was definitely touching.

  • I cried like a bitch

  • I feel almost guilty "liking" Wolfwood's death as I did not like it. Not one bit.

But this scene is so powerful, and someone posted the actual lines below.

That's the one thing that would have made this better,

even without it is so powerful

  • I liked Trigun and the characters but there was a lot that I forgot...except for this scene which might can be my favorite anime moment ever.

  • I just cried. Again. I always cry during this. Damn it, Trigun.

  • He didn't die. He became his Cross Punisher and saved Vash. If you go futher you could say that he became the god of that doomed planet.

  • @Stiglitz51 dude......he died. there isn't any way around that fact.

  • @Ozgarthefighter Yea he's definetely dead. It's my take on what else happened to him. The whole god thing I was referring to though was becuase he's like the only religious character in the series and he wanted the planet to actually live on. Which just so happens that water appears a short time after this.

  • yay! a non AMV or video with a lame song :)

  • The true words he says in the end are wrong, i don't know why...

by the way, in japanese, from minute 3:08 till the end he says:

    - No, i don't want to die, there are still many things i wish i could do, i want to stay a little more with them....... why i can't??

    - You think i don't deserve it, do you, Lord?

    - I'm too shameless to ask you to forgive a man like me......... and you are not merciful enough.

    [DIES]

these words makes the scene perfect!

  • @squal9999 Wow, those words are so beautiful. I wish they had kept them, but I imagine America does not take blasphemy in cartoons as lightly. We can't seem to grasp the concept that 'cartoons' aren't just for kids!

Anyway. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad I know that.

  • And THIS is why Trigun is possibly the best anime of all time. The true connection you feel for the character is amazing, and the fact that you actually feel deeply saddened by the death of a character.

  • ehm... he actually says different things in the original... more deep, not like "i don't wanna die"

  • Who sang this Hallelujah song?

  • Wow he smoked a cigarette in a church 0.o

  • :Warning! Spoilers.: I always found it strange with what he says before he dies not to mention the little flashback joke with Milly and something about cigarettes and a baby idk... But Milly and wolfwood definitely had some sort of relationship in the anime but it was plain shocker when they slept together. Some people thought Milly may be pregnant with wolfwood's child it's most likely but I ask the question "if she is pregnant why the heck is digging holes and mining in the last 3 episode

  • I never realized how terrible this dubbing was. Absolutely terrible voice actors who show no emotion.

  • @nerv4ever the movie takes place 20 years after the series and if you would actaually watch the movie you would realize the refrences the said that linked the series to the movie

  • Full Metal Alchemist and Code Geass are some of the best modern anime shows I've seen. But nothing can be as good as Rurouni Kenshin or Outlaw Star.

  • @Shirokishi009 I'm so happy that there are others that credit Outlaw Star...it really deserves it....

  • T_T

  • this was the first time in ANY media I shed physical tears..... dunno why exactly, maybe because of my affinity to Wolfwood's ideals. Regardless, the emotional power of this scene cannot be denied. R.I.P Nicholas D. Wolfwood. I'll always remember you.

  • @juggalosqueaks I know what you mean! I've seen so many tragic anime, but I've only ever literally cried to this :(

    I blame the music and the awesome of Wolfwood! ;_;

  • Just watched the episode for the first time.

I feel a great love for the insurance girls and I'm mostly upset that milly is upset.

  • @nerv4ever ahh gotcha

  • @nerv4ever I never said it had anything to do with the series, I was just pointing out that the movie would be taking place before Wolfwood died if it did have anything to do with the series rather than Wolfwood being alive.

Also most likely they are trying to test the popularity of trigun to see if they can make a new series, one that prolly more closely follows the manga. Which I wouldn't mind, more time with these characters on screen is all good

  • I was crying. Honest. I don't beileve he dies.

  • @SylarGrimm he's not dead he's in the movie badlands rumble

  • @donoman123 Or the movie badlands rumble takes place before this scene >.>......because he definitely died

  • Comment removed

  • everyone your stupid wolfwood dosent die because he is in the trigun movie wich is the events leading after the series so wolfwood has to survive because he is in badlands rumble

  • the will of "D" carried him far

  • If you want a laugh, turn on closed captioning and set it to transcribe audio. It definitely lightens the mood.

  • @frankruiz but... i dont want to diet...

  • Manga death was better.

  • 1998. Truly the best year in anime. Trigun, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Berserk. Still waiting for something to even approach the level of brilliance exhibited by those shows.

  • @roomie4rent I agree with u, i think the ghost in the shell series approached that level of greatness. The problem with anime today is that its perverted and made for the otaku audience. I dont think it still appeals to most western viewers. Even the new "good" shows like code geass has pervy scenes.

I think during its hay day anime producers tried to make shows they thought were good and now it's about making shows that will sell enough to make profit, instead of taking a risk.

  • italian version is the best (for me)

  • I shed manly tears for you Wolfwood

  • @Talamare2 Manly indeed... manly indeed...

  • @Talamare2 dont worry he doesnt die in the manga, at least i think so

  • @faiye1 He does die still, but just in a different way completely. It's still sad though :(

  • this is the first time ive seen an important character in an anime die without it pouring rain

  • i want to die like this , in a church with a cross on my shoulder , not with a cigarette but a last beer after confessing to God

  • besides vash...wolfwood was my favorite :'(

  • I shed one tear when he actually died. But I boohooed my heart out when I saw Millie, Meryl and Vash cry, and when Millie was packing his things.

  • 3:27 "I'm a man..."

    *followed by Turk from Scrubs*

    *... and men make babies!"

  • Nicholas D Wolfwood is one of my favorite anime characters. His death sadden me and still does after all these years. But confessing his wrongs and seeing things in a different, better light before his death... I think this also one of my favorite death scenes. His life came full circle.

  • To be honest, I didn't like wolfwood much at first. Something didn't seem right about him, and up until then there were only 3 constant characters so the change was a bit jarring. But this episode made me really warm up to him, and it has one of my favourite songs from the Trigun soundtrack. Great character development, great series.

  • what is the name of the song? or the artist someone plz inform me...

  • I think the reason that this scene in this anime was so striking and sad wasn't just because Wolfwood died, but because in the end even as he was dying he still did not find his peace and struggled to reach for the answer and resolution to everything he had done in his life. : (

  • truly one of the saddest deaths in anime...the only other one thats sad if not sadder is the death of maes hughs in fma

  • i was pretty shocked when he died. didn't see that one coming, and the music made the scene that much sadder, not to mention seeing sweet little (well, tall) Meryl cry her eyes out...

  • im kinda confused because in trigun bad lands(trigun movie) wolfwood is still alive?

  • @sotothankyouidied Badlands Rumble is probably non-canon due to Vash wearing gear that is neither solely Anime or Manga (there are several costume differences in the anime, manga and movie)

  • @sotothankyouidied the movie is set in a time before wolfwood died

  • T-T

  • If this doesn't make you cry, you're heartless

  • I swear the only 3 anime deaths I've ever cried during were this one, Spike in Cowboy Bebop and Maes Hughes in FMA. And the song from this scene is just so perfect. It's called Rakuen, which I believe means paradise in Japanese, but I could be wrong.

  • @madjane44 if it makes you feel better Spike may have lived. the creator wanted the viewers to have their own imagination of him either dead or knocked out but survivies

  • this is as sad as the episode of Cowboy Bebop "Waltz For Venus"

  • We'll never forget that guy....

    .... No matter what happens....

.... He's been etched in our memories... Forever.

    Welcome Home, Wolfwood....

  • @TheGazraman does that matter?

lots of today's anime have great animation but shitty story

  • @TheGazraman If you can't look past the animation quality to appreciate the Trigun's extremely impressive plot, then either keep that shit to yourself or just get the fuck away from the video. I've seen animes with the best, most flowing animation available that still don't come even CLOSE to stacking up against Trigun. You're either 10 years old or just fucking ignorant.

  • @Lakerzrock10 I'd say he must be 10 years old and fucking ignorant. Trigun is amazing. :)

  • @Lakerzrock10 Plus many people tend to forget this was made in like 1998.

  • my username was named after this episode.

  • @Lakerzrock10 HEY I WATCH IT AND IM 12 U JUST DONT UNDERSTAND FATE AND LOVE LIKE A DEMON!

  • @stop watching it then

  • thank you for posting this. It's been years since i last saw the series and it's just great that i saw this again..and cried on this again. :'(

  • is this a jesus refference?

  • @Shiryutherain It's actually more of an ironic twist that he has sinned so much and has to carry his sin the same way Jesus carried his own cross when he was crucified. The original creator of Trigun was a recently reborn Catholic when he wrote the series, so he put a lot of religious subtext in it.

  • @MarcePhoenix that was insightful, thanks for sharing.

  • One of the saddest, if not the saddest, moments in anime history.

  • @TheWiseGuy784 next to Maes Hugue's funeral?

  • @AwesomeJellyBean Definitely Maes Hughes.

  • @TheWiseGuy784 I acctually still burst into tears when I watch it.

  • @TheWiseGuy784 The death of Hughes was definitely sad. I think more than the funeral itself was when Ed caught a glimpse of Hughes when he and Al were departing from the train station. It was in the first FMA series (not the Brotherhood)... That was really sad...

  • Atleast Wolfwood helped Vash to turn the final tide. Knives got what was coming to him

  • It was so sad, I didn't expect him to go through so much emotions in 4 minutes =(

  • I remember fukking crying the 1st time I saw this all them years ago!!!

  • Song is Rakuen by Tsuneo Imahori. Its a very sorrowful song.

  • beautiful piece of music to this--it's Hallelujah by a famous japanese artist whose name escapes me right now.

BUT if you're looking to download it, and have Frostwire, search "Trigun Wolfwood". It should come up. I spent a good deal of time trying to find an mp3.

i put it on my itouch every night when i'm going to sleep. :)

  • Saddest moment of the series! Wolfwood was the best compliment to Vash the Stampede!

  • This scene never fails to choke me up. He died thinking his life was a series of mistakes and it's just painful to watch someone go through such a travesty. He was able to finally obtain the peace he desired but only after bearing a burden much to great for most of us.

  • the part which got me the most was when Millie was crying after he died, i mean, she is usualy so happy and bubbly :<

  • @FriendOfCloudflier I felt the same. I was very sad to see Wolfwood dying but when Milly cried, I found it sad above all and I couldn't stop crying.

  • I like that the blood wasn't even there until he looked over.

  • What was ironic was how the intro line for him to his debut in the series was "That is one heck of a well prepared dead guy" lol. Best character***

    R.I.P. Nicholas D Wolfwood

  • His death in the manga was way better. It was one hell of a fight.

  • just watched the last four episodes of the series, i really forgot how emotional and heartbreaking they were. that's what made this series legendary. it started out humorous but grew into a really intense and emotional story. no doubt one of the greatest anime of all time.

  • Ty for uploading, one of my favorite anime characters and I remember crying when I first saw this scene. Really good anime and powerful scene

  • i cry every time i see this :/ god i love trigun.. so many honorable and relatable parts..

  • I think this is the pinnacle of Trigun. Don't get me wrong the fight between Vash and Knives is epic. but it just doesnt take us to the emotional peak that this scene does.

  • i just lost it at "i'm sorry, honey."

  • been so long since I watched this show, but I've never forgotten wolfwood.

  • I just saw Trigun for the first time and feel no shame whatsoever about getting misty-eyed at this scene. Wolfwood is the man.

  • There are two lines in the dub I don't care for.

"Does this mean..." was replaced with "I am a man!"

Wolfwood's final line was "I can't stand it." They foolishly changed that to the less subtle "I did not want to die this way!".

Other than that, they handled this scene well enough.

  • @Rezindez

I like the less subtle one more personally. The entire point is that he wasn't ready to die, it wasn't some heroic death where he accepts it all and moves on, he didn't want to die and making it blantantly obvious is the best way to handle it.

  • @PiemanXX Yes, but "I can't stand it" means much more than "I did not want to die this way!" We know he's not ready to die either way, and it's more effective and shows more of his psych if he says "I can't stand it!" Ambiguity for the win. Not everything should be obvious at a glance.
