I got here under the same slip.. Tool to tool! lol oh well who knew you could rock out and find out birds are gaining on us at technical and evolutionary level.
I used to watch boat tailed grackles drop pecans from high in the air onto a concrete parking lot. They would then dive at free fall velocity to meet the nut at the bottom, before other grackles could get to it. I wonder if they learned that behavior after the advent of concrete. There aren't all that many big, flat rocks.
theres actually a movie on youtube showing crows dropping nuts on concrete. The problem is they not always break so the crows came up with something else - they drop them on a pedestrian crossing and wait for a car to run the nuts over. then wait for a green light to safely pick the contents...
I was hauling garbage to the dump last year and as I waited for my turn to pull up to the pile, I watched a raven steal a soda from the landfill workers ice chest and use an old spoon to pop the tab. Pretty amazing to see.
I live by the ocean where there is a lot of clamming. Often the crows and seagulls will try to drop the shell into the road so that the cars will run them over and the birds can get the meat out. Smarties.
Okay I think this is fascinating and I am not trying to knock science in anyway but come up with a better subject for your next video because everyone know Birds Use Sticks!! In the wild...the do have to build nests so this shouldn't have been that surprising. And I know all birds don't use traditional nests...my last name is Starling...I know about Starlings..HOLLA!

We must stop this nonsense! Astronomy Magazine says the sun will grow into a Giant Orange in 400 million years and consume the earth. The sequoias, the whales, the baby seals, us. We must make a spaceship to get off the planet NOW!
It's surprising, scientists and naturalists are coming to realize that animals are far more intelligent than ever before. Bucking the 'humans are the only tool makers' and thus thinkers of the animal kingdom. There's another video on YouTube showing a crow making a hook to retrieve food from a small tube (this is in a lab). The scientists watching were amazed.
Thought it was a wonderful idea, those mini cameras must have so many uses. Fascinating that they kept good tools. I presume they had a place in the nest they kept them in like a little tool shed so they were easy to find again. Cheers, Lesley

So next time someone busts out Descartes, you know they just theist.
All people who think eating animals is justified because they are less intelligent, go die.

Though Attenborough probably occasionally found crows using tools, he probably didn't find crows caching good tools.
These little cameras revealed a lot more than just crow tool use.

Very interesting.
New technology lets us learn some interesting things.
People are far more alike the rest of the animal kingdom than we suspected.
