Currently the site is stuck in a limbo situation between pre-law (Abandoned Mine Lands), current (Division of Surface Mine Reclamation and Enforcement) , & bankruptcy court.
No cleanup has been done but less water has been flowing this summer, however we don't know if this is due to the drought or if the mine is actually emptying out and the flow will continue to lessen.

i would just like to ask what kind of minerals was previously being extracted on the abandoned mine.
and what is the local officials doing regarding the AMD.

It's iron. The iron rusts when it comes into contact with the oxygen in the water.
