Had the pleasure of interviewing Margie Alexander a few years ago for UK soul magazine In The Basement. What a treat! Lovely, modest and interesting woman and one of the best singers I've ever heard. I hope she's doing well.
Great track, she absolutely nails this.... I used to play this a lot when I was doing a soul & blues show on air near Philly 1997-2002..... if my memory is correct she also did a great job with Bobby Patterson's HOW DO YOU SPELL LOVE,
@DVRBS Thanks for commenting/sharing your memories. NIce to see that some other tracks by her are showing up on You Tube & more people are learning about this underrated artist.
thanks wally 1435 for posting this...i used to call the radio station every night to request this song...thanks mellow joe back in the day....i love this song. I still have the 45!
Tell Aunt Margie that I still play her record. I was making my own charts out back then, and "Keep On Searching" was my # 1 song for two weeks! I first heard it on WYLD Am in New Orleans.

I have a 45 of hers called "Keep on Searching." It was written by Clarence Carter also. It's on the Future Stars label. It was out in early 1975. I still have it.
The mighty mighty Margie Alexander! - and If you think THIS is powerful stuff, just have a listen to "It's Worth A Whippin" and "What 'Cha Tryin' To Do To Me" on Chi-Sound...!
In my humble opinion, Margie Alexander was/is one of the best female Soul singers of her generation - bar none!
Good luck-- I've loved her voice since I first heard this song on the Atlantic Soul Sisters CD in the mid- 1990s. Now, almost 16 years later, I've only ever found two other tracks by her, both on other compilation CDs. All three songs are AMAZING. What a shame she's so little known-- I too would love to hear more by her. I believe that at some point she stopped recording secular music and only sang gospel afterward.
Thanks for the comments. I got this off the old Atlantic Soul Sisters cd that I bought way back then & is now out of print (but many of those songs were re-issued on the newer Atlantic Unearthed: Soul Sisters from 2006, however Margie was left off that one)
Wonderful track from a golden era. Breathtakingly good.

If I knew how to upload a song to YT, I'd be happy to put "It's Worth A Whippin" up.
