lol this is soooo funny. idk what they did wrong but. i tested it myself and the iphone 3gs beat my droid by like a half second....kindda funny considering i forgot to turn on my wifi. :)
When you are out of civilization with no where to charge ur phone what are u gona do??? I'm gona switch out my battery for a replacement cuz the people who make my phone don't have downsyndrome. BTW I pull up the site fast when I don't delete temp files either (htc incredibludicris)
BS test. I just tried it on my Droid both cached and not cached and when cached it loaded engadget in almost the same amount of time as the iPhone and when not cached it was still much faster than in this video. That's over 3G mind you, not wifi.
65% of Nexus One apps are free (20,000+) while only 13% (6,500+) of the iPhone apps are free. Now stfu you stupid apple fanboys and choose an argument you can win. (I recommend you fight over how the iPhone is the gayest smart phone out there, you might just win!)
This is FAKE if you look at the top right the Nexus One and Droid are using a 3G connection, while the Iphone is using a faster wifi connection to make sure that it wins every time. Thanks Engadget for giving us credible results, and not showing a favoritism towards apple products.
lol your a fucking retard lol the nexus one has multi touch ever since the phone was released lol cause of custom rom lol you are very very gay lol as gay as aids if you didnt know that fanboy..... once again you got pwned APPLE
Im an iPhone fan, and I agree-the Nexus One is better than the iPhone 3GS when it comes to speed..but it lacks multitouch. So in terms of browsing experience, iPhone still clearly wins
My iPod touch (2G) and my extremely-laggy MyTouch load at the exact same time (over Wi-Fi). This seems a little flawed, wouldn't all 3 load at the same time since its Wi-Fi?
I won't call you fanboys, I just will ask you to benchmark them at different times, otherwise, all devices are just struggling to get the wifi. Do it for every phone separately, take the time, then repeat the test at least twice.
this was a bs vid, Joshua T. is an apple fan boy an he was using an iphone with optimized safari engadget page. Unfair test. As an owner of an iphone 3gs and nexus one I can promise you that the Nexus is at least 175% faster if not more
bimochi lol your a fucking retard lol the nexus one has multi touch ever since the phone was released lol cause of custom rom lol you are very very gay lol as gay as aids if you didnt know that fanboy..... once again you got pwned APPLE 1 second ago
This is a Weak Test you fake as bitch like most people said clear your fucking cache and then test it... im on tmobile 3g network in denver, co and i started this test the same time you did and was up way faster then what was shown here ... and as far as the comment on the Iphone 4.0 lol here is a comparison for you
Damn they spend (verizon, google and co) almost 3 years to catch up with the iPhone in the features and as a smart phone, and they actually did in some way, but this is the result
imagine when apple realease it the iPhone 4.0... God helps us
loser, i have never seen an Android device load anything that slow. You need to clear the cache on the iphone jerk. did you pull the wifi power then plug it back in.
Anyone else notice with the N1 how fast it scrolls, one flick can quickly scroll 5 or 6 pages, and with the iphone, a flick of the finger barely moves the screen 1 page, yet somehow engadget finds a way to say how much smoother scrolling is with the iPhone, can't wait to upgrade my 3gs for a N1 once it goes to Verizon!
Clearly the issue was with bandwidth and not rendering with the phone. That stupid little sidebar ad is just a generic small gif image. Even my 12 year old PDA can render a gif in a flick of a second. Lame-o test.
fake, fake and FAKE...!!! u r an iphone jerk......!!! N1 is clearly much, much and MUCH faster than iphone. Next time shoot a vid while u clear the cache and do some browsing.....!!!
I don't know about this man. I've seen many videos, that show the N1 and Droid easily pwn the shit out of the iPhone. And when it comes to Engadget, their "tests" are about as valid as a wikipedia article. Engadget is notorious for their Apple Fanboyism. A prime example is the gadget awards on their site. I swear, that thing makes the American Idol voting look legit. The people left comments to call them out on it. Engadget then turns off the comments. lol
This proves nothing unless cookies were disabled on all phones. It looks like the iPhone has been to that page before which would allow it to load much faster
The iPhone is applying all it's resources to one function. It is not known in this video what the memory allocation currently is on the Android phones or what other tasks may be running in the background or the signal strength. The bottom line pick the one that works for you in your area.
the iphone must be cheating, cuz i see the nexus one loads the web page much faster than in this video,it may be a little behind the iphone, but not so much
I must admit, however, that the App selection for the iPhone is pretty awesome. But, the damn phone can't MULTITASK, which takes the fun out of using apps in my opinion. Furthermore, many of the good apps on iPhone must be paid for and the very same apps are free in the Android market. Since there are many phones running the Android OS, soon there will be far more apps in the Android market than for the iPhone and a larger variety too (because open development is allowed with Android).
Only ONE site? Really comprehensive testing. You have outdone yourselves!
There are YouTube videos out there showing the Droid murder the iPhone on some sites so its "horses for courses"
As for scrolling you forgot to mention the iPhones graphics are a piss-poor 480x320 whilst the resolution of the Droid (and Nexus) are more than double at 480x854. Therefore twice as much data to move around
iPhone is the best no doubt. Everyone talks shit about cuz they know they ducked up in buying stupid android phones with an extremely limited app store where iPhone has a staggering 140,000 apps. Google phones do not beat iPhones everyones mad cuz they don't have one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Google Android phones are for those who either can't afford AT&T because they're too poor, or people who are 12 years old and can't get their parents to switch over to AT&T. Everyone wants an iPhone. I remember when I didn't have an iPhone, me and all my friends would talk shit about it, and now that I have one I realized that I was just pissed off that I didn't own it, and so were my friends.
You're an idiot. First of all, the iPhone does indeed deserve props because it was a very innovative product. But just because it was the first of it's kind does not mean it is the best today. There are many phones that are on par with and/or superior to the iPhone (Droid, Nexus 1, HD2, HTC Eris/Hero, Pre, etc) Secondly, AT&T service is the worst in almost all regions of the U.S. and many Android users are on Verizon (arguably the best provider in the U.S.) and they definitely aren't "poor".
Third of all, the iPhone is vastly overrated. The device is utterly boring, uninspiring, and damn-near useless UNLESS it is jailbroken. The ONLY reason why iPhone is so popular is because it came out first and Apple has GENIUS marketing. Furthermore, the iPhone is "pretty" and has a slick user interface (which says nothing about the phones functionality). It's a good looking phone and, sadly, MANY people get them because they want to fit in so they can say "hey, look at me, I own an iPhone".
I don't fully understand what was going on here. For some reason, my droid never loads pages that slowly. My fav is loading pages on 3g when my friends with their iPhones don't even have 3g coverage where I am at. lol
sorry I did the same test. I have a droid and the Iphone 3GS beat mine every time at least were I live... I'm looking forward to getting a nexus in the summer from Verizon
HAHA you guys are so sad. u obviously have multiple applications running on both the droid and nexus one. Both android devices are clearly on wifi whilst the iphone is on 3G. Engadget are such fanboys theyve even optimized their website for iphones. u must feel really "DEPRESSED" thath the iphone is gettin killed
this is bullshit. I see the wifi icon on the droid and the N1 at the top, so its not even a 3g thing. If you're trying to say this has something to do with the browser or hardware - then that is just impossible.
I just did the test with you on my home wifi on my droid and it well beat the iphone.
I'll be brief, I have zilch against iPhone, actually would have purchased it if was made avail to T-Mobile. Stupid me who recently purchased the Nexus 1, decided the mimic the exact test. Wifi and all (as you can see from above). The Nexus one literally loaded the entire page about about 2 full seconds quicker then the iPhone. how could the N1, and Droid be 45 seconds behind. Truly impossible, it's been proven over and over that the N1 will beat the iPhone in most catagories.
This is just another reason how Engadget shows their bias to Apple. Look at ANY other videos comparing these devices and the Nexus one will win each time.
Come on Engadget, show other sites and compare the WiFi speed. Nexus will win almost every time.
fucx iphone!!!!!!!!! fuxk Steve!!!! either droid or nexus one was my last hope!!!!! should i use that android-based phones definitely getting beaten down by 2 years before phone?? Did Steve ever contact with aliens or something? JESUS
well in the video it does say "ENGADGET FOR iPHONE!" on all three of the phones.. so it prolly made the website to like accustomed to go faster on the iPhone.
yes, the nexus one is faster when it comes to brute power processor frequence, but it's still the software that needs to be optimized. So sorry soulja, but safari is just faster compared to whatever browser the nexus is running. And no, i am no Apple fanboy, i don't have any apple products. I'm just saying that the Iphone O is more optimized.
This is extremely depressing, a technology news site doing a narrow micro-benchmark in the same fashion as a 12 year old schoolboy would. Gee I will never trust engadget again.
there is something weird about this test.... i just ran the same test over 3G on my droid and i beat the nexus one and the droid and theirs are over wifi....
Is this a prank or a joke or something? I saw two other comparison videos and the Nexus One was pretty much always faster than the iPhone on a variety of websites, certainly not as slow as in this video.
Or maybe Engadget's website is a bit different (optimized for certain browsers; I know this is possible since I'm a web developer).
I'd like to see this test done a couple of times (cache cleared) and on different websites.
I asked for the same thing on my post couple days ago and I did it twice, they keep deleting my comments. It's obvious they rigged it, there is no way it's that much of a difference. I told them to the same site 3 4 times to show that all phones have visited the site and to try other sites.
yes, the nexus one is faster when it comes to brute power and processor frequency, but it's still the software that needs to be optimized. So sorry soulja, but safari is just faster compared to whatever browser the nexus is running. Another example is the smooth scrolling of the iphone. At 1Ghz, the nexus should at least be able to beat that aspect. And no, i am no Apple fan boy, i don't have any apple products. I'm just saying that the iphone OS is more optimized for its tasks.
These tests are NOT about WHY someone is faster, they are about WHO IS the faster one. I dont quite think these people doing the comparison would have bothered to connect them to different networks..
When iphone wins the android, it's an biased comparison, but when droid wins, iphone sucks and all applefanboys suck too. No matter what kind of a comparison, applefanboys still suck according to some people.. :P
Lower screen resolution, what an excuse... Why don't they build a lower resolution screen then? lol. iPhone's still faster, how does the res effect daily life?
THE NEXUS ONE AND DROID BOTH HAVE HIGHER RESOLUTIONS. 480x800 vs the iphones 480 x 320. Sorry kids the phone just has small screen size and has to do less work.
@Kotze07 dude it is it istheir problem when they dont búild in a screen with a lower resolution to decrease the time of loading a page. finaly the iphone just simply is faster
Why don't u test on more than ONE FUCKING websites before you make a judgment!! What if something about the website that favor iPHONE?? You want to test more than one website to make accurate assessement.
Yes, engadget is cached on iPhone. But even if we clean cache on mobile safari, iPhone is much faster than Nexus One and Droid. So, cache doesn't really matter in this case, the difference between being cached or not is about less than 4 seconds.
smoother on the others? lo que es es una parafernalia que la van a tener que quitar para poder navegar tranquilo... a santo de qué esas velocidades y distancias de scroll? estamos locos?
You also did not say how many apps are running at the same time on the two Android devices. The iPhone probably just runs OSX background services and Safari. For all we know, the Droid and Nexus One might be running a bunch of background apps in addition to the Google sync and other stuff usually going on. An unfair comparison.
@apollooff320 That thing that says "Engadget for the iPhone" is a link to just that, a mobile version of Engadget for the iPhone. The website is still the full site. I do agree that showing browser cache clearing first would be a good idea, but the new eclair browser in the droid and n1 is indeed pretty bad.
You can run the test yourself. I've used an iPod touch myself, and while I don't really like either it or the iPhone, I still have to admit their browsers are pretty good.

iphone always beat all new launched phones on the market ... iphone rawks
macamsiot 2 years ago
well in the video it does say "ENGADGET FOR iPHONE!" on all three of the phones.. so it prolly made the website to like accustomed to go faster on the iPhone.
lakernie 2 years ago
so which one of the three was on 3G and the other two on a slow wi-fi connection?

this is depressing but i still love my droid!
D0DG3RS4LIF3 2 years ago
Your Droid is sooo much better than the IPhone, cuz I have one too!! Its awesome!!!
killastar07 2 years ago
yes, the nexus one is faster when it comes to brute power processor frequence, but it's still the software that needs to be optimized. So sorry soulja, but safari is just faster compared to whatever browser the nexus is running. And no, i am no Apple fanboy, i don't have any apple products. I'm just saying that the Iphone O is more optimized.
sherbulan 2 years ago
This is extremely depressing, a technology news site doing a narrow micro-benchmark in the same fashion as a 12 year old schoolboy would. Gee I will never trust engadget again.

Nice, scientific test.
xixaq 2 years ago
Only a fool would fall for this test! Google is crushing the iphone reputation. And apple is scared to hell so it needs some supporters.
ajeeb302 2 years ago
there is something weird about this test.... i just ran the same test over 3G on my droid and i beat the nexus one and the droid and theirs are over wifi....
Chrisace89 2 years ago
Is this a prank or a joke or something? I saw two other comparison videos and the Nexus One was pretty much always faster than the iPhone on a variety of websites, certainly not as slow as in this video.
Or maybe Engadget's website is a bit different (optimized for certain browsers; I know this is possible since I'm a web developer).
I'd like to see this test done a couple of times (cache cleared) and on different websites.
stopcrazypp 2 years ago 3
I asked for the same thing on my post couple days ago and I did it twice, they keep deleting my comments. It's obvious they rigged it, there is no way it's that much of a difference. I told them to the same site 3 4 times to show that all phones have visited the site and to try other sites.
simplyenjoying 2 years ago
Is this a joke? The Nexus One is faster than the Iphone. Its been proven too many times. You guys are apple fanboys and this test isn't accurate.
SouljaWest 2 years ago 2
yes, the nexus one is faster when it comes to brute power and processor frequency, but it's still the software that needs to be optimized. So sorry soulja, but safari is just faster compared to whatever browser the nexus is running. Another example is the smooth scrolling of the iphone. At 1Ghz, the nexus should at least be able to beat that aspect. And no, i am no Apple fan boy, i don't have any apple products. I'm just saying that the iphone OS is more optimized for its tasks.
sherbulan 2 years ago
These tests are NOT about WHY someone is faster, they are about WHO IS the faster one. I dont quite think these people doing the comparison would have bothered to connect them to different networks..
brooped 2 years ago
When iphone wins the android, it's an biased comparison, but when droid wins, iphone sucks and all applefanboys suck too. No matter what kind of a comparison, applefanboys still suck according to some people.. :P
Lower screen resolution, what an excuse... Why don't they build a lower resolution screen then? lol. iPhone's still faster, how does the res effect daily life?
brooped 2 years ago
It's been proving that this test is wrong in so many ways.
I'd like for Mr. Josh to explain some things...

exactly and another point is that this site has flash enabled...
that's why the iphone is much faster, it doesn't have to load the flash objects
totally lame this test...
tubuntu10 2 years ago 4
THE NEXUS ONE AND DROID BOTH HAVE HIGHER RESOLUTIONS. 480x800 vs the iphones 480 x 320. Sorry kids the phone just has small screen size and has to do less work.
apeironer 2 years ago 2
@apeironer who cares its still faster
Kotze07 2 years ago
but thats the point it isnt. Since the screen resolution can be downsized via apps its not faster and this was an biased test.
apeironer 2 years ago
@Kotze07 dude it is it istheir problem when they dont búild in a screen with a lower resolution to decrease the time of loading a page. finaly the iphone just simply is faster

hmm my Ipod touch can Show the "Real" sites but you have to zoom cuz they are so big that you cant read the site

Why don't u test on more than ONE FUCKING websites before you make a judgment!! What if something about the website that favor iPHONE?? You want to test more than one website to make accurate assessement.

But I only tested on iPhone. I do not have neither Nexus One nor Droid
andretmcarmo 2 years ago
Yes, engadget is cached on iPhone. But even if we clean cache on mobile safari, iPhone is much faster than Nexus One and Droid. So, cache doesn't really matter in this case, the difference between being cached or not is about less than 4 seconds.
andretmcarmo 2 years ago
lmao that was hilarious.
chubakakid 2 years ago
yeah, how BEFORE did you surf engadget with the nexusone and the droid????? do you know caching? i bet the site was chached in the iphone

Radioboy 2 years ago
You also did not say how many apps are running at the same time on the two Android devices. The iPhone probably just runs OSX background services and Safari. For all we know, the Droid and Nexus One might be running a bunch of background apps in addition to the Google sync and other stuff usually going on. An unfair comparison.
bjeah 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
how about nexus one have a faster Processor?
iPhone usually dont terminate program when you press the "home" button, the program still running on the background.

your browser test sucks since that site is iPhone optimized. FAIL
apollooff320 2 years ago 11
No it isn't, it's the full normal website.
fuzzy76no 2 years ago 2
@apollooff320 That thing that says "Engadget for the iPhone" is a link to just that, a mobile version of Engadget for the iPhone. The website is still the full site. I do agree that showing browser cache clearing first would be a good idea, but the new eclair browser in the droid and n1 is indeed pretty bad.
You can run the test yourself. I've used an iPod touch myself, and while I don't really like either it or the iPhone, I still have to admit their browsers are pretty good.
