  • I stumbled on this clip, and new right away who that boy was when Bob said it happened in front of North Star Mall, His name was Gabriel Rivas, and I went to school with him at Mount Sacred Heart in San Antonio in the Seventies. Gabriel was truly a GREAT kid, shy, quiet and respectful. I know your family loves and misses you Gabriel, your not forgotten by your friends. God Bless your soul brother. - I'm 42 years old,and glad to put a name to this clip....light a candle for you at the grotto @ MSH.

  • Wow this open borrows the KPIX theme And You from 1982

  • Even today, crossing Loop 410 to even get to North Star Mall can be tricky as it was back then. I feel bad for the kid's family though. :(

  • Was this before or after they moved to the current building at 5400 Fredricksburg? (I know they moved in 1982.)

  • i would guess after...it seems more advanced from the 1980 clip.

  • OMG! How do you get all this cool stuff?!

  • Bob Salter -- rock! Also sweet to see Dan Cook, whose folksy demeanor was far preferrable to Mr. Sleazoid (not present in this clip) himself. It's so surprising to hear that pedestrians have been attempting to cross local expressways (and failing direly) for *that* long. I'd have figured it was just a new-ish phenomenon.

  • Bob Salter also anchored on the weekends for a short time at KTNV in Las Vegas before he was fired a year & a half ago.

  • I remember reading about that because I was trying to see where he was these days. I really thought he was an excellent anchor, seems to have alot of bad luck these days. I do not know the man personally, maybe he is a jerk. Who knows.

  • Nope, Salter is a great guy. I worked with him at KTNV a couple of years ago. He's great.

  • According to his website which i found just now, bob is a medical helicopter pilot....just in case you were still wondering

  • It seems like KSAT, and the anchors who ended up there, were cursed with some sort of bad luck in general. I lived in SA from 1989 to 2001 and I remember everything from anchors getting run over to their careers just "fizzling out" to various charges of illicit materials happening to one anchor or another. Still KSAT was always just slightly ahead of KENS in my preference. Although I met Steve Browne one day when I was working at Office Max and he was a complete asshole.

  • @playdrv4me Steve Browne seems like an asshole. I agree they all appear to have bad luck. :-\

  • i still remember bob salter when he was at KSAT, then KMOL in the 90's. his hair is so different, like everybody too

  • this intro is more simpler than the 1980 intro. its not that bad either

  • Hey! That guy's trying to be Larry Kane!

  • Mobilene:

Just letting eveybody know that Larry Kane was the big cheese(steak) in Philly TV for many years. There are some clips on him here on Youtube. Bob Salter BTW I think fizzled in Vegas many years later.

  • Love to see more KENS, KMOL and KSAT news clips from the 70s and early 80s
