  • I just bought a mountain bike. can someone tell me where exactly is this place?. I live in east LA

  • I biked there today and luckily there was 1 parking spot left in the small parking lot before the gated entrance. For future reference, does anybody know where else we can park? Residential maybe?

  • The trail reopened.....so stoked!!

  • This is my favorite trail@@

  • I have a Giant trance1 that looks fun.

  • nice place

  • i admire you bro, you live life how it should be lived. You show that mountain biking is an art; the swift, sharp turns, to the technical creek sections. Get dirty... Ride on...

  • Great vid fellas. This brings back so many memories. I rode this back when I was

15-16yrs old on my BMX bike, haha. I just turned 30 yesterday, time fly's!!!

Im heading to Chino Hills in the morning

  • Rode this trail Friday and Saturday

    Wow it's different

When I was done it felt like forest creaters beat me up with bats 9/17/10 to9/18/10

Nothing like it was it's destroyed gone

Thanks to who ever built it up to repair it

You did do a good job it is really washed out sand is every wear

  • I WANT THAT TRAIL NEAR ME! The only good single tracks near me are like 45 degree up hill rock climbing which i dont find fun...

  • @georgethemonkey You must live in Simi Valley.

  • Paradise!!!! :D

    so pretty off roads

  • What a great post! Thank you. I used to ride this trail monthly for 3-4 years in medical school, now I can only reminisce on the good times. Trail looks like it's a bit run down, and the rock gardens are more pronounced but great shots. Any posts from the Ken Burton trail? That one is equally challenging if not more! -Putang

  • nice track, great biking!

  • Love this video.

RIP EL P. Sadly, I only knew you for a short time.

  • Specialized is the way to ride boys!

  • this trail looks sooooo amazing it makes me want to live there

  • Thanks for sharing the video.

It brings back some great memories.

  • This is how we do it, since we ride the trails and other mtbrs folks we leave a note so that we all can pitch in and bring shovels and we fix the trails while riding specially when it rains there's about 15 to 20 of us in our group. That's my best advices!

  • that's a pretty sweet trail. not as fast as I like it, but it sure does look fun

  • looks like the most fun

  • peddle faster damnit! you ride like old people fuck! loljk

  • come on, keep up! haha awsome. i had a helmet cam once.

  • AWESOME TRAIL ! The Strokes are the shit !!!

  • looking 4 a group to ride with', im new here in LA, more on downhill . and im in my late 40's. i want to join any group here in san fernando valley,LA. .....

  • ... why do i live in denmark.. theres no long good trails here.. damn it sucks.. i would love to try a trail like that!..

  • that trail looks like a lot of fun..

  • music?

  • Just attepted to ride this trail on Sunday the 13th 2009. The rain has created a giant river that ran completely through the trail, and completely wiped out about 60% of the trail. All we have now is this great video that reminds us how great this trail was. Thanks for posting two years ago.

  • :( I'm jealous huhuhu... i wish i can have MTB to ride on... Pls give me your used bike ^_^

  • Killer switchbackin'..... What are you ridin' on?

  • At the time of the video, Giant AC1, now I am riding a Giant Trance X2.

  • Just rode El "P" and it was sad to see the devastation that this fire caused. Singletrack is still there but a few sections have been washed out by debri and sand. Most of it is burned and I noticed an eerie orange glow on rocks from fire retardant that was dropped from the air. It has to be a health hazard. Hope El Prieto returns to us soon. Godspeed.

  • I just recently Reloaded this video. See a higher res. version. In memory of the trail before it burned.

  • what a beautiful trail. im gelous

  • The loss of Brown Mountain AND the Mt. Wilson trails is sending a lot of people to Mt. Pinos. Lot's of wear and tear on trail trail already.

  • Is El Prieto still closed?

  • Yes it is, it will be for some time. Maybe up to a year. :(

  • @mtbgeek still closed???

  • Yes sir it's still closed

  • 5 stars for the song

  • U guys and your strokes. lmao

  • Burt to a crisp.....so much ash that it becomes a health hazard if any wind comes along. I tried it the other day, and had to hike back out from all the ash in the air. All of Brown is charred beyond recognition. Sad

  • I just rode this trail today, since the big station fire. Brown mountain is completely burned. Everything was unrecognizable. It looked like a dessert wasteland. El Prieto was burned about 90 %. The trail is still there and somewhat rideable. Alot of erosion was observed, blocking the fireroads and the trail. No tree's, srubs, or anything. Just a bunch of burned soil. Everything was completely burned. Saw alot of dead rabbits, and rats burned to death. It was quite depressing.

  • This looks like mad fun. Makes me want to jump on the ZGary Fisher and go ride. good tune choice too.

  • R.I.P Brown Mountain / EL Prieto trail 08/28/2009 well see you again some day...

  • i live right down the street from this trail entrance but everything on fire :(

  • that was awsome what kind of film was that

  • now climb it lol looks like a good trail

  • Man this trail looks like so much damn fun. Wish we had stuff like this were I am.

  • wow awsome mountain bike track...i want to ride it lol

  • thanks for the directions

  • that looks like a fun trail where is it?

  • I think it's somewhere off Angeles crest highway

  • It is off the 210 exit arroyo/windsor go north towards JPL for about a mile. You'll see the parking lot.

  • great video. love the strokes

  • first time i did it about 2 months ago... i was all over my brakes.. 2nd time i was more speed hungry.. a very very good trail i love it

  • This is a fun after work trail if you ride it as often as I do, it gets old after a few rides -just like anything I guess- regardless it a bit technical and the conditions now are a bit dry, the river is starting to die out??? I wonder if someone built a damn or something? Anyway want to kick it up a notch? keep going up Brown and jump into the Ken Burton trail that will put a hair or two on your chest haha.

  • Ken Burton is awesome, but infested with rattlers and too much vegetition. This was way back in 05, is that still the case?

  • I did it last Sunday solo and I didn't see one snake, lizzard or mtn Lion but I'm sure there somewhere. The veggies are abundant thats true but very manageable I think they make the trail more adventurous if anything. word of advice the trail might have thinned out a few inches so stay away from the edges, cover up your legs and arms just in case your allergic to plants and falling on to rocks. have fun.

  • im doing this ride LA marathon weekend for my 2nd time'lol'first time I was scared because of the canyons or drops but now im going to ignore them,,good trail!

  • sweet vid, looks like sweet track too.

  • just did this trail today....downhill section is a blast!!

  • good vid, keeps me coming back.

i wonder if he made the small rocky climb @6:10. it's like 1 out of 4 to me.

  • Love this trail

  • Good music ,awsome video for me to spin with when the weather is bad here in Ocean City Maryland.

  • That track-stand @ 5:25 was dope, that's a tough little switchback.

  • My least favorite switch back... I always look down, and at the metal retaining fixtures.

  • Koool

  • Whats the price range for a bike that would be great for these types of trails?

  • 500-2000

  • If you're a hiker, best to stay away from these trails. Lots of speeding bicycles here both on trail and paved road and I've had numerous close calls with my kids getting hit. A handful of cyclist are truly rude and obnoxious while a majority are friendly and courteous. Please report any close calls you encounter with the

    Angeles National Forest

    Supervisor's Office

    701 N. Santa Anita Ave.

    Arcadia, CA 91006.

We all pay taxes, and we should be able to learn to share the trails.

  • also heard that this is labeled the beginer type trail so now i know im a beginer LOL

  • I like everything except the rivers..

    water+bike=no...

  • You can almost always hike the bike on those water-crossings.

  • man! i wished i would have hit is up yesterday! we decided to hit up Ken Burton trail for the first time! man was that crazy! sucks, broke a rear deraileur hanger about 4miles about from the parking lot but still, that trail worked my bike (04 NRS) planning on hitting El prieto though next sunday!

  • i dont know how to get here

so how do i get here

  • 210 Fwy - Exit Windsor Ave.- Go 1 mile north - Park at Windsor+Mountain View St. - Simply follow other bikers to trail.

  • crazy thing we were gonna ride some where else but becasue of the weather we ended up there today that is the trail i was today LOL man first time trail there

there was a man that said to ride the obsticales and not go around them casue it mess up the trail the water stopers i guess people ride around and widen the trail the things in the trail like steps or whatever prevent ruts from forming i always learn something

  • i like this

    i really do

  • wow...looks like a great ride. I wish we had something that good in Oklahoma.

  • Awesome ride. I envy your skills. I've never been able to make it down Prieto so smoothly.

  • sweet ride and video!

  • I love This Track..

  • where is exactly Can you post the address, thanks.

  • is that in L.A.? where exactly is it? I'd like to ride it sometime.

  • That switchback of death at 5:30 was impressive, good riding! I have yet to try that spot, too unforgiving to me as you can see the tree tops below on the turn.

  • spettacolo!!hello by italy

  • Hey! Awesome video... a lot of downhill and technical passages! Loved it...

    Cheers from Brazil!

  • haha, i wish, that would be a long trip from tennessee, lol

  • ahhhhh, i just went on a trail exactly like this, and i already want to be there again

  • If your in LA County this trail is a must ride, it's an extreme technical trail for me anymore but still a fun ride regardless. The climb up Brown fire road is long and a bit boring but your reward is El Prieto coming back down. try it.

  • The trail is fresh guys/gals me (PMBC), Corba, and other groups just restored the trail and we brought back the old technical section! ran the trail today as a matter of fact with just two dabs!

  • great video! I love that trail

  • Thanks for the video dude! The last time I rode that single track and brown mtn was in 97! I now live in Seattle and miss all of the trails that I used to ride back in the 80's and 90's!

  • Whats are the easiest all mountain mountain bikes to hop with

  • good job fellas, its not easy to make a good film while carving el prieto. this is the trail that i learned on. i started mtb on a hardtail weighing 260lbs. i learned how to be technical and articulate on this one. some parts of this trail are unforgiving and you guys flew through there like it was cake.

  • Great video! I think me and my friends are gonna have to get over there soon.

  • Split my knee on this baby yesterday. Yep, these guys make it look like a breeze.

  • what kind of bike is ideal for this trail? i have a bike that weighs 40 lbs. ( azonic saber )

  • Usually a trail bike with 4-6" of travel will do. Even at 5" is an overkill. I ride my all mountain bike as a trail bike too (AC1) and it is a bit more than you need. Once in a while I ride my hardtail there too.

  • You guys made it look easier than it is!

  • 5. Very Nice...

  • This looks great! I wish Texas had singletracks like this.

  • Awesome guys, you've made it look too easy. Good job!!

  • looks like a blast!!! nice job dude.

  • sweet video,nice switchbacks...

  • not a bad trail. not very technical. looks like some fun.

  • Excellent clip! I ride El Prieto just about every week (up and down) and you really captured the essence of it. Great job...

  • great video, I must ride this trail real soon.

  • Damn this video is such in inspiration for me...

  • looks to easy

  • awesome...we have lots of single track in Germany bit not that awesome...I wanna go there

  • Sick Trail. I've been riding Annadel a lot but this looks like so much more fun. Too bad it's all the way in LA.

  • sweet thx, and awsome vid

  • whats the first song?

  • can someone tell me exactly how to get there i want to ride it

  • Go to

    socalmtb website

There are directions and a description. See you on the trail.

  • You know you're riding the illegal short cut in that video.... those cuts have been made by people who didn't want to do the short climbs on the original trail. One of my faves, and I'm there at least once a week.

  • I love this trail been hitting it for 20 plus years. Thanks for the video. Rick in Rosemead,Ca

  • Thats a really nice trail and well shot video, might be worth a trip to the states! What bullet camera did you use?

  • Nice video and trail. It actually looks quite similar to some trails here in scotland (in the summer that is)

  • Nice camera work, really shows how different is than here in East Coast...

  • wtf that it doesn't play the whole thing, 9 min?

  • It does have 10mins of video, try clearing your browser cache and reloading it.

  • i like this course,it doesnt slip...ma first time to ride a dh course is on wet mud which has just rained last day...i wanna ride wiz ya dude...

  • i cleared the history and it works perfect now. thanks

  • Nice coverage of El Prieto. It does give people a good idea of what they're missing. Thanks for posting.

Te next time you ride El Prieto, try sticking to the original trail and avoid the newer and easier short cuts. I noticed about 3 in this video.

  • Well done! I did El Prieto today and you guys sure ride better than me :) Keep up the good work guys and stay safe.

  • its paradise ? good job

  • GREAT job at capturing the "El Prieto Experience"! It's been one of my favorite singletracks since 1995, and it's only 6 miles from my house! BTW, what filming equipment did you use? It did a terrific job for you. Thanks for posting this. I'm forwarding it to another buddy to give him a sense of what it's like to descend El Prieto.

  • Thanks, I tried to fit the entire trail in so that people can get an idea of how it is. I used a bullet cam that connects into the inputs of a Canon miniDV camera that I have in my bag.

  • very nice video

    cool single track

    saludos

  • I love the Brown Mountain-El P loop. Been doing it for 20 years and I still enjoy it.

  • dude! i rode this thing for the first time about 3 weeks ago! its a sick ass single track! and was a bit technical but my nrs 3 handled it pretty well might i say

  • Great video. This is an awesome, quick trail. Been there many times, very technical. I was just there today (hot!), but I decided to take the back fireroad down the mountain due to my friend's equipment problem on his bike.

  • cool video!!

  • ahhh ok thanks :-)

  • oh and whats the song plz?

  • wow that looks great!!!

  • How bad is the poison oak on this trail?

Tommorow morning I'm going to go to the top of Brown Mountain, but debating whether or not to come back on El Prieto and risk the poison oak (I'm super allergic).

On a related note, have you ridden the Ken Burton trail? How is that one?

  • Just went last weekend, it's very dry. Didn't pay close attention to the poison oak, but usually it is bad. Stream crossings are dried out. Trail is clear so you won't rub up against any. You should be fine.

As for Ken Burton trail, I haven't started from the top of Brown Mountain. We rode down from near Red Box on Angeles Crest down to which I believe connects to Ken Burton. That was a lot of brush whipping. If you do the Ken burton from Brown Mt, it is about a 15.1 mi loop.

  • Thanks for the input. I have some good rides ahead of me, sounds like.

  • awesome
