I really like this but I think your problem may just be simple grip, did you coat the bottom of the segments with anythin? try sticking elastic bands to the bottom. Must be heavy on the power aswell with all thos servos lol
Yes, these are basically servo motors coupled together through a simple light aluminium link and lightly coupled oscilltors made out of Mark Tilden's Nervous Network Neurons.
Like a snake skeleton if you ask me. Put some skin on that, with some texture or grip, and you would be doing even better, I think. This is really great, keep up the good work!
Well if I understand the description, the robot IS stupid. Yet it gets the job done. It accomplishes things that usually only a much smarter robot can do. Which is kind of the point.
But it kind of adapts and the environment and its topology give feedback to the motors of the biomorph, so it behaves differently for different environments
Hello? Years ago I watched a documentary, University teacher would pretty much break his ghetto blaster into pieces, put pieces back together, (transistors n stuff no computers just electronics), then would mount a small solar panel, and the resulting machine would walk by its own towards sunlight and it was... well fascinating and puzzling. When I talk to it to people they consider me as a freak, I need the hard info back plz!!
You could say the same about several other areas of research, but we still do it. Some will turn out successful, most will end up nowhere, but if we didnt bother wasting that time or money in the first place, who knows where we would be now?
wow.....

that not a snake its a worm :D

perhaps it would work better if it had bigger amplitude and/or bigger wave length in it's waving motion

Locomotion could use improvement.
Newbsbane 2 years ago
More like worm movements, snakes should move from side to side.

Power... about 10-15W maybe?

please?

That's probably because it seems so alive, almost like you're watching a struggling animal try to evade a slippery swamp onto a dry log!

this is why we evolved with two legs.

Good job Man!!

This is an awesome robot! good job, but have you ever though its more like a catapiller?
Jeremyc56 4 years ago
Yeah!
It was build with the intention of building a snake, but it turned out that it's more of a catapiller, you're right!
That's what we call 'emergent behaviour' ;-)

Do I have the right of things, anthonyhsiao?

Is it actually learning how to climb, or is it just spasming over the obstacles by accident? :) Just curious, not trying to make a dig.

I think there should be another video of it where it is on the side. but the bottom line is, that it doesnt do much.
In fact, it was designed as a snake, and turned out to be a rather lame snake, until i put it on its side, and it started to walk and climb ;-)

Me parece que emplear 10 preciosos servomotores en un robot BEAM es un desperdicio de tiempo y dinero.
