What would you say to someone who said that Wolverine is evil because he has claws and he takes out people during combat? I just wanna know because part of me has even felt that at times, and I really wan't sure what the answer was.
Not so, kuru. I'd say the Sentry is great in concept. The mere concept of the void makes countless stories possible, but noone seems to want to use them.
For instance...why is Sentry even here when they could take a synonym for sentry and just give the void a costume. He can change his appearance I assume.
He kills people he sides with stormin norman is there a bigger threat on marvel earth right now? Why would anyone in marvel u be ok with someone that powerful being that nuts? The illuminati should have launched him into space, He needs to go back to comic book limbo asap!
Well, because if Sentry wasn't in baby brain land, they'd have to actually think as to why Sentry was A; here, B; not cleaning house, C; not tracking capes to find friends worth hanging out with, etc and so on.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I like the idea of the Sentry, but he has just been TERRIBLY handled by Bendis.
Jenkins (in the "Sentry 6 issue mini from a few years back) basically put to bed the entire "Schitzo" thing when Sentry exercised the Void (Robert) from his mind and body and hurled him into the Sun.
But Bendis, I don't know, he like the Sentry to be a damaged character. Not just damaged but completely broken!
I completely agree. I think there is a lot of untapped potential with this character. True, he is overpowered but that is balanced by his mental instability, but that doesn't mean that he has to be completely fucking retarded as Bendis would have you believe. If used properly, there is potential to tell some very interesting and epic stories using this complex character who, for some reason has been way over-simplified.
Defining a hero is damn near impossible, because one man's hero is anothers villain.
I did two tours in Iraq and I'll tell you to an Iraqi we wouldn't be heroes to them and the terrorist is evil to us, but in some circles in the muslim world they are heroes. It's all subjective. I think the defining answer for me is does the hero do what he does for the greater good?
You guys can define a hero by whatever you like; I won't argue semantics. I judge these superbeings as to how effective they are, not just in one battle but in the long-run.
For instance, would you call what the JLA did a few years back (mindwipes) to the villains acceptable? I think that is even worse than killing someone. Especially off kilter people like Super Villains. What they did with the riddler and two face, I really like. Have the villain mature over time, maybe see it from a new angle. But "Golden Age" stories are too character status depending to let real changes occur.
I certainly do. They take away a portion of your life. Of who you are, what you knew, etc and so forth. At that point why do the people they are saving even need a brain.
That is good observation on the source of our differing views.
Referring to the Authority (again? geez i need a new well)they did kill as well as having diplomatic relations. The way that "Golden Age" stories work, audiences are too smart to just accept it as the overall case. The old 'punishments' did nothing to deter. Nowadays, I like to see attempts to problem solve. Killing is not the best way, but it is a way.

I'm gonna quote Stan Lee right now:
"Superheroes don't kill people! They save people!"

The sentry was a piece of crap character from the start The gimmick was dumb and an insult to readers, And why would marvel need this character?
Lets takes superman give him schizophrenia and retro con him into everything

what do you mean by effective?

Sentry is a stupid character!
Marvel created the Sentry just because they wanted a character like Superman.
saar1707 2 years ago
Exactly.
Plus he's entirely the wrong type of character for the marvel universe as he's overpowered.

That should be a good funny contest, markedly if participants try to ape Jose's style. Good show, CCW!

Because the word "Rant" is in the title.

For why the Sentry couldn't beat Rulk. Uh....Loeb?
Heh, that's what people want eh? Apply that logic to comics and see Marvel's business led justification.
