i bought ER-1 & manual off a friend for an oz. of hydro . connected some old Yamaha analog scratch pads via MIDI to it ,and aux input my zoom pedal through my Yamaha 8 ch.mixer gain's accompanied with my roland D-20 synth. some amazingly dope arangements and very immense sounds ,tones, effects, can be made , im having much fun with this .... ....long live analog.............any one with collaborative advise ?
i belive the band nine inch nails used this very rythm synth back in the day
Yo, I know this is a total noob question, but how do you set the pattern length on ER-1 EA-1? I've had both of those for a while & it is a mystery to me. Funny thing is I recently picked up an ESX-1 & have no confusion or problems setting the pattern length. Appreciate the help!
BTW: that's a nice groove you got goin', good structure.

I use to have ER-1, BUT SOLD IT. I was looking for 909 drums, now i want to get it back because its nice for elektro music. Also have EM-1 and its good, but drums little bit different
EM1 has sampled drums and two synth voices, was sold as "Music Production System", an all in one solution. ER1 is a drum-synth with nine or ten synth voices meant for drums, but as we can see here, a little creativity and experimentation helps make it more than just a drum-synth.
@Mamiya645 2 aux inputs on it can line in cd players and mixers sort of make it into a real time sampler when you hit the key or make a patern will play the part of whatever cd or record you are playing at the time
i absolutely love this machine. i know that many people consider the sounds to be "dated" but i use mine with my circuit-bent setup of instruments and the thicker sounds from the er-1 really compliment it. enjoyed your sounds!
you might be able to if you set the Midi in to "omni" for its channel or either they keyboard or electribe.... can't remember how it works but basicly yeah
this machine is worth every penny JUST FOR THE KICK, its insane. You can make all manner of wiggly noises with it too but its strong point is a wicked bass heavy kick. And its not just a bass throb, you can get the sweetest "click" kick with a chest pounding bass its just nuts. Youtube videos don't do it any kind of justice. And anyone that says its a cheap garbage box can happily miss out :)
you're right about the kick ! when i did research on the ER-1 before I bought ione I figured I would do some sound editing on Cool edit to help, not so. out of the box, on the right system, that kick hit me in the chest like an old school rave.
most of the videos up with my Korg's are to test the sound quality on youtube and online in gerneral. I'm closer to what I want. see KorgFu2u
I would probably spend 300 or 400 US on one. But I wouldnt expect many people to go as high.
As for the sound, its straight up analog drum sounds, with a very simple yet effective set of knobs to tweak the drum sounds to your liking. Basically, you choose one of two waveforms, then adjust the modulation, depth, speed and pitch. You can make anything from a deep kick to ringing metallic sounds... snappy analog snares and all manner of odd bleepy sounds.
Sadly, the rest of the machine is limited. Only effect is a global delay that can get REALLY obnoxious if abused. And it only has stereo out. Regardless, you can still do some pretty cool stuff with it.
If your dream is to be able to take your drum sounds and quickly mutate them into something different on the fly then this will keep you happy for a long time. Its a blast to use live.
thank you and happy 'post' 420. after all the research i ended up just gettin one off amazon for $205. now i am waiting. i'm new to midi but thats the direction i want to go
yep, you can change on the fly, but you can't save while it's playing so you lose the changes if you make any changes and then switch patterns mid-set
I like the sound , how did you make the snare-like sound starting arround 3:36?

I own the ES1, and the ER mkII, and in my opinion there are too few melody options. But with the effercts you have, you make a great groove
Pieter328 1 year ago
@Pieter328
If you want melody parts, just use a separate keyboard.
The electribes and the grooveboxes would have been better strictly as drum synths

u should combine it with a EA
then u got the same as a EM

@Roelie20: Not exactly, the EM is a ROMpler [with minimal tweak abilities] while the ER & EA is Virtual Analog.

Another dumb question: can I load a midi file into this at all or must everything be programmed into it?

You can dump Midi into it! But it may be tricky! I don't remeber how to do it :( but you gotta work with SysEx
