  • :( *the music plays* The New Youtube design sucks

  • Damn Square Enix. for real.. the crap they puttin out nowdays aint even the same as this project so they shouldnt had no beef

  • 90's gaming music is just like 70's rock music. They perfected it.

  • There's a reason why people are trying to make remakes of games like this. I don't really understand how video game companies like Square don't see it. When I see the console RPG genre today, it seems that they lost sight of what made these RPG's great.

  • Magus looks constipated.

  • I liked Crono Cross, but I still prefer Crono Trigger over it

  • Man this is beautiful. If ever a song to reflect on life with, its this.

  • @izEnii I couldn't have said it better myself. I will carry this song for when it's dead at work on my mp3 player. It's instantly earned a favorite too.

  • I wish they'd make a Chrono Cross remake

compared to Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross is very underrated

  • @1RadicalDreamers Chrono Cross is a TERRIBLE sequel to Chrono Trigger let alone it being a crap game. This isn't some Fanboy rage or hate towards you either.

  • I'm so happy that I bought this for DS! Even though I'm technically "spoiled" with all these games nowadays, I still appreciate (spelling?) games like these.

    Thank you, Square!!!

  • I wish I could transport back in time and play then when I was younger. I had final fantasy II/III (4/6). But never got a hold of this. Luckily I bought it at a vintage store one day when I was 18 or 19 and enjoyed something truly magical in 16 bit form. I'm glad I played the original and got to experience the superb writing ahead of it's time.

    A truly wonderful game.

  • i want a remake.......o and ds bull shit dont count

  • @MrJordan20649 lol exactly

  • this is the first time i have heard this and it took me a while to recognize the original. not a critique, but just a testament to the wonderfulness of the song....truly a beautiful mix

  • Magus = Vegeta with straigh hair >>

  • square enix just couldnt stomache the fact that this team was doing something they shouldve done years ago by rereleasing a fan favorite of such superb quality with great interest.

  • well piccolo with blue hair in the picture

  • @MartialHeroesPwnz go fuck yourself

  • @MartialHeroesPwnz better soundtrack dude im not sure FF13 actually has a sound track go play a better game

  • @MartialHeroesPwnz Shut up, you new age fag.

  • @Cruxallicious

You know, you're not any better bashing others because they like modern games.

  • @Myth3842 But in this case, he is definitely right.

  • This is really good. It doesn't have the exotic eastern feel to it that the original did, but it still keeps the theme's spirit and awe-inspiring tone, and the chorus is as moving as ever. It's a shame SE forced this remake to be cancelled, I don't think they knew what they were losing...

  • One of my biggest disappointments is that square didnt let the guys at Chrono Resurrection finish their incredible job... Why won't they let fans be satisfied with ff7 & ct remakes? :D - Awesome song btw, brings back memories!

  • But I like the old version

  • The music is beautiful, but the picture... O.o

  • Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI have two of the best soundtracks in video game history. End of story.

  • @FatalKitsune hrm Suikoden 1 is up there as well, just beautiful and very unique, but yeah I agree with your choices

  • @FatalKitsune Agreed!

  • @FatalKitsune Final Fantasy IV should be included in there hahahaha! But I definately agree on those two choices!

  • @FatalKitsune ALL of the FF games have great soundtrack.

  • @MeingroessterFan Even Mystic Quest??

  • @Yamigata Yeah. Mystic Quest soundtrack was quite nice.

  • @FatalKitsune

Heh, what about Golden Sun ?

  • @FatalKitsune They both have straight up epic soundtracks, but imho kingdom hearts still takes the price.

  • @FatalKitsune Don't forget Chrono Cross. The game wasn't as good as Trigger but the music definitely was.

  • I think I'm in love.

  • I know it's sad and all but it's their intellectual property.

  • @LiquidSnack It's their intellectual property that's going to rot in their archives for the next few years until they make yet another port to cash in.

  • I haven't finished Chrono Trigger yet, but I have to say: the antagonist is one of the coolest looking ones I've ever seen. Also: Chrono Cross is my favorite for game feel, character variety, art style, and a bunch of other stuff, but I have Chrono Trigger's success to thank for Chrono Cross's existence. (as of this post I'm not done with CC or CT)

I wish this could've been fully developed. Sad that SqEn decided to stop them.

  • I love the panning on the piano! (pianonning?)

  • This song stays on repeat.

  • All of you stop and play CT2 damnnit. How do all of you fans NOT KNOW about it yet.??? It's called FLames of Eternity, and bridges the storyline between 1 and Cross. Its AMAZING.

  • @ShadowofLocke or play radical dreamers

  • Why would Square kill this, everybody loves remakes.. Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Psycho, The Wicker Man..

  • This could have been something absolute.. why does Square is so much against remakes.. I mean with FF VII and all >_> those are RPG players wet dreams!

  • great!

  • Chrono Trigger: a game that throws a bunch of fantasy/sci-fi stereotypes into an SNES cartridge and somehow makes one of the best RPG games of the 90's out of it.

  • Chrono Trigger and Cross are the BEST Games!

  • @keepeas1 one word: "Eidos"

  • raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaape.....

  • magus is buff....

    just like me :D

  • I sometimes look up old games for old systems. I saw this one and looked up the differences between SNES and DS version. the snes one was to expensive online, so i got the ds version. I beat it in two days with crono, frog, and magus as my permenant party once i got magus. This...Game...Kicks...ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... I like the music too :P

  • If this was 100 dollars i would fork it over for a game like this FUCK U SQUENIX

  • The rhythm guitar in the background (not the main melody) is absolutely beautiful...

  • the coninuity from this game and chrono crosses truly begs the question of its surrealness. a meteor that crashed and killed the dinosaurs, the evolution of humans. was it an act of god that humans are the dominant species, or was this fabled meteor a being burrowed in our very earth even today? when looking onto our past, its scary how it lavos could explain so much of what has happend to bring us to this future. religion is far fetched as well, maybe lavos really does exist,

  • @ihatedoinglaundry Would be epic as hell.

  • @ihatedoinglaundry The Hindus had myths about floating cities. maybe your onto something...

  • FINAL FANTASY IS DEAD after FFX!! Square Enix suck, to many FF is out and the result suck! Fuck FF11online and FF14online WTF is not a FF GAME!

Final Fantasy is a turn per TURN!!! FF13 SUCK!!! one character you can play! One potion for all character WTF!

  • I'm still optimistically waiting for Chrono Break

  • Hot damn these Resurrection remixes are incredible.

  • Comment removed

  • Something like this actually almost happened???

Wow. I hate Squeenix so much more than I did before now. I didn't think that was possible.

  • Fuck square enix

  • will love to hear this in dubstep :P

  • Square Enix is a company of douchebags who come together in order to make way too many Final Fantasys and shut down non-profit fangames so that their won't be a sequel to the one game they make that needs a sequel.

  • @Unnickcomealtri Couldn't have said it better myself. If you close your eyes during quite a few of the CT songs you can easily see similar things, mostly through true fans of the game. I wish I could see their real faces just one last time... They were prepared for the void... Magus would have been proud to be a member of their family... So am I... I am proud to say so. This song makes me realize that we are all small, in comparison to death. It is something we can't escape, no matter what.

  • @monkeyboy409 Yeah, too bad good and touching music for videogames died like 10 years ago. This game's theme is just brilliant, the words fail me if I try to describe how much those musics meant to me, even if is "just" a game. Peace :)

  • @Unnickcomealtri If you really believe that, you're really stupid and/or willfully ignorant.

  • This song makes me think about the lost loves... If I close my eyes I can see my self in the past with the ones I loved and now are gone. I feel happy, but a voice in my mind keeps telling "All is about to disappear". This song, for me, is about the joy of living good times knowing that everything can get worse in a second and it makes the joy even bigger, because you know you have to be happy now while you can. Love CT musics, all giving lots of thoughts.

  • vibes

  • this music is like "Time Comando"'s ones.. very nice DOS game, Action RPG.. u should try

  • Honestly from a standing point as a game devoloper myself I can see why square rdered a C&D on this game, but it still would have been awsome to play it I'm a huge chrono trigger fan.

  • @Eternalclaw I was just curious, given your profession as a game developer what do you think are the reasons why Square issued a C&D on this game?

  • @boosterman Well, Ressurection games did not have any right or permission from square to even start devoloping this game. It was in violation of many copyright laws, and they didn't even have permission to use the title, the characters, the story, etc. If I was square honestly I would have ordered a C&D on this game as well.

  • its magus not vegita. its not dragonball z man get it right please!

Chrono Trigger has got to be one of the ultimate games of all time :)

  • Comment removed

  • when i die, i want to feel the same way i feel when i hear this song.

  • OMFG it's vegita!... oh, no, wait...

  • This is one or maybe my favorite soundtrack of all time for a videogame.. i always listen to this song (The Snes version) when im gonna sleep.. is awesome! reminds me of the city in the sky (cant remember the nameE) when this song first played.. i loved the moment i hear it.. why this project had to be cancelled? it would have been great!!!

  • Remake Of Chrono Trigger With 3D Graphics, Better Sound If It Could Get Any Better Same Storyline It Would Sell As Much As It's Been Downloaded On Emulators.

  • Crono Resurrection would be an instant, but Square's politic ruined it.

Look at Valve, who allowed fan-based games of their franchise. They're probably one of the most successful video game developers. On the other site, Square makes mistakes all the time. I would not be surprised if the company suffers massive loss someday.

  • @ZidaneTribal93 "Massive Loss someday" already happened. To my knowledge the company's in some serious financial trouble.

  • I had the choose between Aladdin and Super metroid. I chose Aladdin, but fortunately both were great games.

  • @ZidaneTribal93 wow. I feel like slapping you silly over the Aladdin - Super Metroid comment :)

  • @ZidaneTribal93 I think I played the Aladdin game! I remember vaguely... It was a really long time ago... We were borrowing it, along with a bunch of other SNES games, including FFII/IV, Mario Paint, Super Metroid, and Secret of Mana, and a ton of others. SNES had some of the best games, as well as the ps1. It's too bad the gaming industry is mostly all about graphics and visuals nowadays and not the story depth. Chrono Trigger was unbelievably deep for a game of its time. Haha... time. hurr.

  • Dude i so would love to even see a remake of crono trigger for like ps3 or somethin

  • Sounds like music from Dark Cloud...love this remastered version.

  • RIP CTR, Killed by Square-Enix, always pirate their shit.

  • @Laughingblades If you're going to pirate their games, at least buy the soundtrack. Yasunori Mitsuda deserves it.

  • @greekperson0305 But Wada doesn't.

  • @greekperson0305 Chrono Resurrection was originally set for a Christmas 2004 release.[11] However, Square Enix issued a cease-and-desist letter to Resurrection Games before the release for trademark and copyright infringement.[12] Faced with a threat of legal action, the project was publicly closed on September 6, 2004.[13] it wasn't even a game being made by square, it was a fan project that was getting a commercial release (meaning it was breaking laws)

  • @S0ryiu Way to copy/paste Wikipedia. That little blurb doesn't seem relevant to me.

  • @greekperson0305 I don't want Yoichi Wada getting a cut of the profits that should go to Yasunori Mitsuda.

  • @greekperson0305 does the official soundtrack have symphonic recordings? no offense but brilliant as the music is I won't buy a CD with 8-bit or 16-bit music on it.

  • @greekperson0305 I DID buy the soundtrack! Arn't I cool?

  • @Laughingblades At least if it were worth pirating since 2001

  • @SmokingBomber

    two words:

    Deus Ex

  • @Laughingblades If you read the articles on it, it was never ment to be an actua game. a quote from gamsutra: "the development team did not intend to create a complete remake of the original game since they would not have the necessary resources, and because they thought the result would not have been on par with Square Enix-developed titles."

  • @S0ryiu But the reason they cancelled the project, the reason they gave themselves on their website for the cancellation, the reason given to several other sources with the order in question, was that Square-Enix issued a Cease and Desist order. Now if Square Enix wasn't Herpaderp STUPID and run by that pop culture idiot Yoichi Wada, they would have hired the team or bought the rights and made a full fledged game out of it.

What they had done was recreated the entire kingdom continent with NPCS

  • @Laughingblades The problem is that they were intending to sell the game, the cest and ddesist order called for them to either stop, or not sell it. THey chose to stop. That tells me that the team making it cared more about money than their project.

  • @S0ryiu Square-Enix could have sold the game themselves, they chose instead to destroy it, and the cease and desist order was to stop working on the project.

  • @S0ryiu not sure where you got your info from. Let me give you the full scoop as I'm the one who did this remix. (I'm Mathew Valente) The demo, not game..but demo was intended as a high quality multi-scene promotion for our love of the game that was to be given away for free, not for profit. No one got paid for any work they did on this project. It was to be released (for free) on PC, gcn, and xbox..not at retail, but as ISO files that only development kits could play

  • @tssf Kotaku and a few other websites said you guys were trying to make a profit off it.

  • @S0ryiu kotaku was one of the sites I contacted with info about the project, but I don't recall them actually claiming we wanted money. Trust the source :) we never intended it to be full or retail released. Zeenbor (nathan Lazur) posted a game play video online, check it out by searching chrono resurrection playthrough. I also posted videos regarding the music on my channel

  • @tssf A lot of us really wish you could have finished, SquareEnix has been going down the drain since Wada took over they clearly have no plans to do anything with the title but port it across handhelds so we can squint and burn up batteries trying to enjoy classics they refuse to release in bundle packs on X-Box 360 these days.

If they had been smart they would have hired you guys on as talent, idiots won't even put good games to America that already have english translations tho.

  • @Laughingblades its cool, we've all moved well on now. I wonder what would have been sometimes, though. 2004 was long ago.

  • @tssf Have you guys worked on anything else.

Saaaayyyyy... Could you make a Yaoi game with catboys in it? hehehe.

I know I know there's no way you would, but I haven't played a good catboy game in ages.

  • @Laughingblades The only chrono project that Square screwed up and became a bully over was Crimson Echoes.

  • @S0ryiu No they screwed up this one too, and arguably they screwed up Chrono Cross but that game has fans so I won't go into how or why.

  • Comment removed

  • @S0ryiu "because they thought the result would not have been on par with Square Enix-developed titles"

    watch?v=233kmUiW-Rc

Look at a small glimpse of what they had so far, it was graphically superior to the original and choc full of content.

They were well on their way to making a full game, if Square-Enix had backed them up instead of shutting them down they would have made a better game than the original, they were definitely dedicated to the task and they definitely had the talent.

  • @Laughingblades Not a true CT fan if you pirate their shit. Even for suggesting it you should give up on seeing that game.

  • Comment removed

  • @Laughingblades Lol'd at the comment :\ did you remove it on the channel owner? either way it was silly.

  • @heyhowfang Huh? What comment was that? I can't restore it but I think I said something to the effect that true fans should pirate the games to keep Yoichi Wada, and Square Enix in general, from getting the money after they've taken a shit all over Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy.

  • @Laughingblades oh the tears are most delicious just like the megaman legends fans hahahahaha

  • @wakkanda Tears? yarrrr I has no tears, only the dedication to seed every game Yoichi Wada ever touches over uTorrent until forever.

  • @wakkanda I would laugh at that but I'm not.

  • @MegamanNG well then this reply was useless now was it not?

  • @wakkanda I'm not laughing because Square will get what's coming to them.

  • @MegamanNG and that would be??????

  • @wakkanda That I'm not certain but I feel that if they don't care for their fans, then there won't be any left.

  • @MegamanNG it's not that they don't care for the fans lol.. they just got cold feet

  • @wakkanda Cold feet knowing they won't allow anyone fiddling with their franchises. That I think is why they do this.

  • @MegamanNG fucking lol.... oh internet you bring me the greatest things this guy hahahahahahaha

  • I got Chrono Trigger from the drug dealer upstairs in my apartments for $5.... So do you believe in Fate? Which means our lives are all predetermined?

No, theres no such thing as Fate

  • @Kr4v3rd There was a fate in one demension, but Serge and the group killed him and let the dragons free. Are you in that plane of existance?

  • They damn well better get the CTR people for a 3DS remake.

  • i shed one hot manly tear.

  • Why does this song remind me of the TIMELORDs from Doctor Who? lol Chrono Trigger parallels the "whoniverse" in so many ways

  • man the good old days when the game where real and knew how to make a game. know a days people dont have a dam clue what a real game is a part from a scrap.

most common thing graphics this and graphics that. .most of todays games are garbage. there is a few rare ones out there.

  • @frostmare11 A lot of games are good you are just not looking in the right place. Another thing is A HUGE AMOUNT OF SNES GAMES WERE FUCKING AWFUL!

  • @FuhrerLink wtf is wrong with you

  • This has a sort of Mediterranean theme to it, as opposed to the Eastern theme of the original. Nonetheless it's a great remix.

  • Yasunori Mitsuda RULEZ!

  • @lavosbr - What we want is a re-mastered version of the songs and a re-make of the game. Same Chrono Trigger, but with more appealing 3D graphics and a more expanded environment while keeping the same story and being nostalgic. That's all we want, but sometimes we ask for too much I suppose.

  • @Year1022 Honestly if they just made a nice looking 3d version of the game with music updates but kept the story, battle system and items all exactly the same I would go out and buy whatever system it was on.

  • @nosajetah Totally, Chrono Cross has nothing on trigger, sadly.

  • @mitxelus Agreed. I don't care for the ret"con" they call Chrono Cross. Or at least I did, until I found out what they did to the story from the first game...

  • @nosajetah - That's pretty much what I want. :D

  • Chrono Trigger, and the Chrono series in general, is perfect just the way it is. Considering Squeenix's track record in the past decade, I don't want them to ever touch the Chrono games again. Because if they did they WOULD screw it up. I only need point at the once-great Final Fantasy series as an example of a series whored into oblivion.

  • It really is a shame they shut this project down, but there were a load of copyright issues.

Also, if the project was successful, it would take the chance of cashing in on a 3D version away from SE.

Made sense, but damn they really made some good progress on the graphics.

  • @feraldrgn SE shut their project down and released a shitty and loveless port for the DS, there is no justification for what they have done.

  • @shutterdust Of course there's justification.

It may seem ugly, but if you were running a business you wouldn't want unofficial teams gaining popularity from your work & not paying you for using your ideas.

The unofficial team were also breaching copyright.

SE want to cash in on franchises for as long as possible, which means porting 2D versions with little improvements until the value dies down, only then will they release a 3D version to surprise the fans & profit from it.

  • @feraldrgn I may not seem logical, but I would welcome such an "unwanted" thought with open arms and a box of donuts. I say this because it's not really profit that a company seeks, but the glory that comes with influencing culture- the money's just an extra reward. And when it comes to copyright and trademarks, with the right thinking and wording, both the fans and company win. Square Enix, however, used the wrong line of thought, and now, here we all are- listening to an awesome remix on YT.

  • @DarkChirano I don't comment on Youtube much, but that has to be one of the greatest comments about the entertainment business as a whole.

  • @shutterdust They didn't want average joes doing a better job then them, because then stupid people would finally open their eyes to how shit companies are.

  • I don't know the game and I have never played it...but this song...hole shit...why do I want to cry all for sudden? :,D

  • Squaresoft I miss you!!!

  • Fuuuuck, Square. Why didn't you hire these guys? SO MUCH MONEY TO BE HAD.

  • The creators are still out there, one of them is bound to have this. Their group is no longer together, the game could have been leaked before, one of them should just upload to piratebay, it would become a worldwide phenomenon overnight making millions of people happy. Square-Enix, you're inhuman corporate money junkies whom belong not in the gaming world. Your utter lack in quality goods has turned millions to piracy. I'll never pay for another FF but I would GLADLY pay $100USD for this.

  • @philonetic I agree...when squaresoft became square enix Final fantasy went down the crapper...TWEWY was really the only good SQUENIX game.

  • When I was about 7, I was shopping for a game for my SNES. There was this game and a Yogi Bear game I couldn't decide on. I chose the Yogi Bear game. This decision altered the future forever and will only hasten the coming of Lavos. We must travel back in time, to the year 1996, and punch my 7 year old self in the face for being a complete dolt. This will make me come to my senses and choose Chrono Trigger, thus altering the future, and saving the world from utter annihilation from Lavos.

  • @Jostone102 I have attempted your mission, but failed. you still bought the game, I got arrested, and I'm now certain I punched the wrong 7 year old.

  • @TheOmnipotentPirate But the future refused to change.

  • @Jostone102 everything happens for a reason!

  • @Jostone102 yogi bear LOL

  • @agetro82 My thoughts exactly... :|
