He looks better than any 60 year old man I've ever seen! He has every bit of his hair, which is rare. Anyone ever heard his back up vocals on David Pack's "A Brand New Start"? Sounds as good as it did on "For the Love of Strange Medicine: :)
Steve Perry is great and all but i've never heard one comment about his family life. Does he have a wife or someone to carry on the Perry bloodline or is he a blank shooter?
I am so happy Dennis Miller interviewed Steve because Dennis says it like it is. It takes alot to please Dennis and he even kept praising Perrys voice. There is just no other singer like him!!!
I WAS PUMPED 3 years ago to go see Journey.....only to find out it was the first night Steve Perry would not be with the band (again) and was replaced with the current singer....they we're opening for Def Leppard......it was the ultimate let-down there is no Journey with-out Steve
I really like that guy I think he did great on that dont stop believing song and he sounds like a really awesome cool great singer dude lol. Keep rocking man!
Steve Perry is nice... I have watched many of the interviews on YouTube and he never has an unkind word to say about the band members... That's the way to be Steve Perry! That's why he has soo- many loyal fans...
What a SEXY voice.....have many dreams of meeting him (along with thousandsof others) can't help but want to meet him. He is so articulate with his words and again.....HOW SEXY...even if he couldn't song, all he'd have to do is just talk to me. I am IN LOVE with this man......TOTALLY
I totaly agree with you. I love to hear him sing, his voice goes right through me right to my soul. But I love to hear him talk also. I love intellengent men, and he is that. And meeting him, been wanting to do that for over 30 years (think I just told my age).
I really love Journey wish in my country more people would love it too, at least people of my age (23) that way i could sing his songs with a band, my music teacher told me i can get a very impressive impersonation of Steve's singing tone.
Steve, If your assistant reads this and he or she can convey this moment of Admiration that i have for you, then I will have My Moment in Time........ Alway's and Forever A fan.................... Me!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, he truly is. I've researched him everywhere I could for a year and a half now and haven't found a negative thing, other than his own admissions of mistakes, regrets, etc. Love to hear him laugh!
Likewise good to see someone out there who understands the human voice. As with Aretha Franklin, Steves voice is a gift. So smooth and pure! However, age takes its toll and w/Aretha age and smoking. Some people, like Streisand, can maintain their level of singing well into their years, but I believe the last time I heard Steve sing he wasn't as good as in his "youth". If he wants the bucks go for touring, otherwise quit while he's on top and leave us w/fine quality recordings.
why is the interviewer making fun of michael jackson and saying people are posers? I dont like Michael Jackson but he has a skin disorder and cant help that, I like the interview besides that though, Steve Perry does have a great voice
Started singing at 3 years old. Now it all makes sense. He was BORN to sing and I wish we could still see and hear him. What a loss!! Come back Steve, please!!
I am campaigning to reunite Steve Perry with Journey. I have written two blogs - one is an open letter to Steve Perry and the other is an open plea to the others. I have posted these all over the web but if you wish to have a look go to My Space and search for - Journey_Talk
Hey Steve, you sound just as sweet as you look and sing, thank you for following through with your calling, even if we cant hear the classics from you anymore, please give us something new,we love and miss you!
Steve Perry is one of the greatest singers of all time. He is up there with his idol Sam Cooke, and should certainly be counted among the greats, when it's all said and done.
Hey Steve it been too long you need get back on the horse ride again,we miss your beautitful voice lets hear something before some of us has to the old folks home.lol
Thanks Stephen for having the courage to follow your heart and doing what you needed and wanted to do. Remember the mountaintop in Hawaii? That's when you knew. You've been through and weathered so much, I am so proud of you, and have been since the late 70's. We are the same age. I still remember listening to "Feeling that Way", cruising Hollywood Blvd in my convertible, you looked over and smiled at me turning your head around as I drove away! Thanks Stephen, Love and Blessings! Diana
I love this man. Thank you for posting this, I'm thrilled. It looks like a lot of other fans are too! What a great voice, I'll listen again and again. Love you Steve Perry!!
Listen, I can honestly say that I saw Steve Perry in concert in Seattle when "Girl Can't Help It" was the rage. I didn't go to see Journey, or Neal Shaun (Is that his name?). Journey can bite me! Steve Perry is Journey. The rest of them were just privileged to bask in his Supernovistic glow.
A very humble man indeed. He really deserves every penny he's made! Not just the greatest voice, but a great man as well. I like that he passes no judgement, neither does he take part in it. He really is one of a kind!
His music made me a better human being. I hold on to that everytime I hear him or see him...I think the word that best describes him and his rare talent is simply "eternal".
Sounds a good person to me and not egoistic and will not do anything to hurt somebody. I believe Steve will kept his promise not to sing anymore because of that "crack the stone" thing. But Steve, it's not yet too late to go back to what you enjoy the most... to sing
first of all, journey was journey even before perry came in, and he left, so its just natural for the left ones to look for replacements. it wasnt arnel who wanted to be the "one" replacing perry, it was JOURNEY who wanted him in so dont curse him. it was journey's decision and they made the right one picking this new talent.
You have got to be kidding to think that Perry can sing the way he used to lol. It's called vocal chords for a reason, it's part of your physical being. Human beings deteriorate physically overtime lol. Just watch the video of SP singing DSB after the White Sox won the series a few years back and you'll see that "the voice" is gone lol. If Perry sang with Journey today, it would be an injustice to his legacy and you'd be a fool to think otherwise.
Actually, your comment about the World Series game is off-mark. That's how I sound after I've been screaming and screaming and I've lost my voice which is what happened. It's the World Series, so we can't really say for sure how good or bad he sounds now. You could be right or wrong. He won't sound like he did in 1983, but he could sound decent. Listening him in an interview in 2005 at his normal voice, it seems like he can sing relatively well, but not like back in 1985 or so.
I'ts good to hear someone who actually understands a singer here. Your entire body is your instrument and the physical strength required to do what Steve did is enormous. And it's not that the voice deteriorates, it settles with age and becomes mellower. And yes, over time, the highest notes just go. In other genres of music like blues or jazz singers gain points for the maturity and style of performance, the passion. I don't think most people would appreciate that fully without your insights.
He's such a talented , humble man and the fact that he's easy on the eyes makes it all the better. He's one of a kind and Journey can hire as many bozos as they want, but they can never replace THE VOICE!!
Neal Schon is exactly the opposite of Steve Perry. The guy is spiteful, mean, and just plain angry.
He whined about how Steve Perry still gets paid for the songs he wrote that they sing in concert. He doesn't think it is "fair". lol. Without Steve Perry, "Journey" couldn't have filled a Moose Club.
You're so right about Neal. What a spiteful little man. Seems so jealous, even to this day, which is just silly.
Steve, no matter how difficult he may have been back in the day, has claimed responsibility for his portion of "the insanity" within the band. I have yet to hear any of the other members (past or present) admit any fault on their part.
In the end they did him wrong and they know it. So sad.
How humble and non-conceited can a person be? Does he not realize that he truly is the voice of rock and roll? After hearing this, just makes my love him that much more. What a great person...
Steve ;about that we are the world video, wow blew me away, what you can do with just one verse<at that time I was just getting the joy of re discovering you and you could of made that video sell if you sang the whole thing by youself.seriously.
Yes he does! When I watched the Houston "Escape" DVD & others from 'back in the day' I voted his the "Shiniest Hair in Rock"! What did he do to it to make it so gorgeous, shining, smoothe---and when he sends it flyin' around my heart goes with it!
He toured FOOOOOORRRREEEEVVVERRRR. Hes probably still catching up on sleep.... Like 20 years straight. I have a genetic propensity too but I havent done anything about it yet..
I get the joy of rediscovering you....Thank God for youtube! Thanks for uploading Perryfan4ever :) And I know Steve was sad that I wasn't there for his birthday. lol
steve really needs to try to sing again. if his rejoins journey, I would know my prayers will soooo comr true. I miss you steve. I'm only 11 so i never got to see you in the 80s
Journey without Steve Perry is like cake without the icing...Steve rocks and is hands down the biggest best singer rock has ever heard, no one can replace him..my 6 yr old will tell you he loves Journey WITH Steve Perry...Steve you are the best...tour, everyone loves you and will buy it out..
He's been "ok" for a long time, & very busy, he just doesn't advertise it. He's been producing, singing backup vocals for other musicians for YEARS but he doesn't make a big deal about it, like "Hey! Here I am!" He's simply been an extremely private guy for a very long time, doing what he loves most but still trying to have a quiet, normal life.
do u hear this rock gods Voice- his voice has Not changed - he just doesnt want to sing anymore for some fucking reason- STEVE PERRY WTF is wrong with u - DONT BE SCARED TO SING PLEASE COME TO YOUR FANS- WE LOVE AND MISS U STEVE PERRY - ILL KILL MYSELF IF U DONT SING
God Bless you whatever you are...and i'm so Blessed to have met you, thanks for your great talent, voice, charissma, and the love in your voice...I love you Forever
If steve and journey dont get over themselves they will have let thier fans down. But hail journey for arnel he is as close to steve as we will get till this reunion happens. AND IT WILL>
Thanks Perryfan4ever for posting this adorable voice of Steve, It's incredible to hear this recent interview with my earphones and imagine how good it would be talking to him on the phone. Do you have any material of him speaking portuguese?
I keep coming back to listen to this posting. It is the latest news of Steve that I can find. It gives me renewed hope just to hear him talk, all the while I am hoping that it won't be long before he is back in public singing for all of us. It has been too long.
Of course Steve Perry is a good guy but for those who are saying "Steve is so humble and all that"...hmm not really, When he first joined Journey yes he was but he eventually ended up controlling every aspect of the band and its personnel. Thats why Steve Rollie left in the first place.
Steve has already admitted his faults when it came to controlling things within the band, and has apologized as well. Nobody else has ever owned up to anything. Steve Perry is a GOOD MAN, plain and simple.
Not only that, but he spoke alot about not getting a big head, so apparently he was aware of the possibility of that.
But you are right, he has apologized.
Not only that, Greg said the reason he left was because of the stress of the 10 years of touring with Santana and then Journey (who toured ridiculous amounts of shows in a year). When he was totally free to blame it on Steve.
My two personal top favorite singers are Bruce Springsteen and Steve Perry...they have the sexiest voices ever! Come back to Journey Steve....they need YOU!
wow!loved the comment steve made about Bruce Springsteen and that being the coming of christ for him-couldn't help but laugh at that,if I ever met Steve that is exactly how it would feel for me-lol. It's good to see that he hasn't let the business go to his head and he sees things just as we average joe people out here whom adore him do and I just love that about him-he's very humble and modest and stays true to himself. WE LOVE AND MISS YA STEVE!
Steve Perry has a beautiful Soprano voice. He is very talented and I hope he will continue making beautiful Music. Steve you are greatly missed! Please return to the world of Music soon!!!! You are missed!!!
Oh thank you for that information!! Steve Perry is an excellent singer. I've always enjoyed listening to him sing. He's very talented and I love listening to him sing!
I named my son Steven...wonder why? I have see Journey 10 times, with all different lead vocals., from 1983- 2008..come back someday....I'm still waiting...ticklebox in SC
wow...dennis miller, you are so lucky because you can talking with steve directly. This is the latest news about him that I have heard. for Perryfan4ever, thank you so much for your update news. Only 1 question. Steve, what is your HP number??? I wish that I can call you and discuss of your plan tomorrow..Oh MY GOD, your laugh is so cute in radio, same as many years before...Steve, please don't give Up for music, many fans will always waiting for You!!
I love to hear him laugh!!! There is a picture of the the We Are World video and it shows Steve singing his part and Bruce Springsteen is just staring at him. I wonder what he was thinking!
Steve sounds great! In Dennis's book I Rant Therefore I am, he mentions going to house he was buying and Journey was there. He said Steve pointed out a busted water pipe and saved him $3,000. Too funny!
Hear Steve is writing and recording again-let's hope we get to here those great pipes again!
Steve is eligible for induction into the RR Hall of Fame in 2009. Let's hope he gets in! If anyone deserves it, it's Steve!
Thank you for posting this, its nice to hear him laugh and enjoying life. He is very humble which makes him even more star worthy, maybe he will be back singing yet.

This is funny. Thanks.
Journey was my first concert. Perry is one of the best.
I took drum and guitar lessons from guys who knew him in So Cal, too bad I never got to meet him.

wow the guy still has awesome hair
Raksmey89 3 years ago
Yes he does! When I watched the Houston "Escape" DVD & others from 'back in the day' I voted his the "Shiniest Hair in Rock"! What did he do to it to make it so gorgeous, shining, smoothe---and when he sends it flyin' around my heart goes with it!

This is only like three months ago, thank god he called in so his fans know he is ok! Thankyou Perryfan4ever .
jfanalways 3 years ago
He's been "ok" for a long time, & very busy, he just doesn't advertise it. He's been producing, singing backup vocals for other musicians for YEARS but he doesn't make a big deal about it, like "Hey! Here I am!" He's simply been an extremely private guy for a very long time, doing what he loves most but still trying to have a quiet, normal life.

Thanks Perryfan4ever for posting this adorable voice of Steve, It's incredible to hear this recent interview with my earphones and imagine how good it would be talking to him on the phone. Do you have any material of him speaking portuguese?
JonesMrs 3 years ago
I keep coming back to listen to this posting. It is the latest news of Steve that I can find. It gives me renewed hope just to hear him talk, all the while I am hoping that it won't be long before he is back in public singing for all of us. It has been too long.

Thank you for posting this! SO good to hear from Mr. Perry. He sounds happy.
Count me in as another one listening over and over.

Of course Steve Perry is a good guy but for those who are saying "Steve is so humble and all that"...hmm not really, When he first joined Journey yes he was but he eventually ended up controlling every aspect of the band and its personnel. Thats why Steve Rollie left in the first place.
semitar6 3 years ago
Of course you mean Gregg Rolie...
Steve has already admitted his faults when it came to controlling things within the band, and has apologized as well. Nobody else has ever owned up to anything. Steve Perry is a GOOD MAN, plain and simple.
mistifers 3 years ago
Well said. Everyone has growing pains during their lifetime, and SP moved on from his.
20carrocks 3 years ago
Not only that, but he spoke alot about not getting a big head, so apparently he was aware of the possibility of that.
But you are right, he has apologized.
Not only that, Greg said the reason he left was because of the stress of the 10 years of touring with Santana and then Journey (who toured ridiculous amounts of shows in a year). When he was totally free to blame it on Steve.

My two personal top favorite singers are Bruce Springsteen and Steve Perry...they have the sexiest voices ever! Come back to Journey Steve....they need YOU!
willro0802 3 years ago
Steve shouldnt worry about Bruce . Steve is far better !!
sj507 3 years ago
wow!loved the comment steve made about Bruce Springsteen and that being the coming of christ for him-couldn't help but laugh at that,if I ever met Steve that is exactly how it would feel for me-lol. It's good to see that he hasn't let the business go to his head and he sees things just as we average joe people out here whom adore him do and I just love that about him-he's very humble and modest and stays true to himself. WE LOVE AND MISS YA STEVE!
