Nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes like this from time to time. I remember I was playing a pool comp a few years ago, in the final, a few easy balls to pot and I would have won the tournament. I had to bridge over another ball... a slight twitch because of nerves and I touched the ball I was bridging over, foul was called and I had to sit and watch my opponent clear the table and win the match. I'm still kicking myself over it!
@Superhands89 i done the same thing when i played te england cap, l;ee kendall was 6-5 up got down to pot black to win 7-5 and touch his ball with my finger, lost 7-6. felt ill
@englishman1960 I think we can agree that Jimmy White is the biggest bottler of all time, 6 WC finals and all defeats. Its a shame cos he was an awesome player, a crowd pleaser, and a super nice guy. I think everybody loved his image, the jack the lad lifestyle of hardcore drinking/socialising, made Jimmy the coolest guy on circuit, and probably why he was so popular. Jimmy is a legend, he was just very unlucky and suffered badly from nerves in big games. Awesome guy!
I bet he still ha nightmares in his sleep about that blue!!! I think im correct in saying he never won another frame in that match and davis won 8 on the bounce to go into the final......but if im wrong then dont hesitate to correct me!
To all of you so called "snooker enthusiasts" out there, making ridiculous comments about Willie,he is,without doubt, the best and foremost authority on the game and how it should be played, even other professionals watch his commentary to in order to gain insight and learn from this, dare I say it,"GENIUS". If anyone out there wants to improve there game as far as shot selection and tactics goes then there is no finer man to pay heed to than Mr,Thorne."LISTEN and LEARN" he knows best!!!
Nobody's perfect. Every top player has missed seemingly 'easy' shots at some stage in their career. If players didn't miss then snooker would be so boring.
The greatest display of ironic hypocrisy in the history of snooker. Not only are the players better tenfold, but the tables are tougher tenfold these days, and yet this creature of a vision has the audacity to suggest that sometimes players are just, 'inches away from being perfect.' Pure fool.
Along with John Virgo,Willie Thorne was the biggest bottler of all time. How appropriate that the two of them regularly commentate together and criticise other players for playing a bad shot.
@englishman1960 I think maybe you were not around to watch them at the time, if you were you would know they were as you say "Bottler" the fact they were actually there in front of cameras suggest otherwise. Did you become a famous player?
Lots of bullshit posted here....Thorne was slaughtering Davis here, until that missed blue,he was a great player that day,Davis in his prime couldn't get to the table.
stfu with your twisted bullshit. if a player cannot ever reproduce his form just because he misses one shot, then you must have trouble getting your dick up. ever.
practice means nothing in matchplay, you stupid rabeta.
and you are in no position to comment on how gifted he was.
The most amazing miss I ever saw was Tony Knowles failing to pot the blue which would have seen him beat Cliff Thorburn in the semi-final of the World Championship in 1983 (I believe). That miss certainly put paid to his carreer and he was never uite the same again.
Knowles also hammered Davis 10-1 in the first round of the 1982 championships . He was possinly a little too fond of the ladies to the detriment of his game by all accounts
Knowles also hammered Davis 10-1 in the first round of the 1982 championships . He was possibly a little too fond of the ladies to the detriment of his game by all accounts
I may have been the ruin of his career but as in the case of Jimmy White & Alex Higgins, the money would have been wasted just as fast. He would have been in the record books but the bookies would just have been even richer !!!
Er, yes ... Willie Thorne, Strictly Come dancing, series 5, partnered by Erin Boag. Eventual winner Alesha Dixon. Search here on yt for 'Willie Thorne Erin Boag' if you want to see it - his 'highlight' was his paso I think...

Even though Thorne is long retired from Snooker. He still regularly plays the game, I can't imagine Hendry doing that after he's retired.

Bald cunt Willy Thorne proper bottled it. He should have dropped it in dead weight.
