Thanks so much for all the vids in this series! My wife was hired by the Aberdeen Uni to conduct research in North East fishing communities so we'll be moving out there from California in a few months. She was really worried about being able to even understand folks, but these tutorials have really helped. (Especially the ones concerning fishing.) We plan on purchasing your book as well before we go to get as much Doric in our heads as possible. Thanks again!
Thanks richlangham' for your comments my friend' im glad my vids have help you out! You will be made very welcome in the Doric speaking North East Scotland my friend' and im sure you will soon pick up our Dialect! People here tend to speak more english to incommers so they can understand us!
If you go onto Facebook and type in "Doric" you will find a Doric speaking Group with nearly 8000 members speaking Doric Scots from all over the world' you will be made very welcome there also!!
Excuse the maxture o' English an' Scots. I'm affa taen wi your series! I bide up in Inverness, and am fair scunnert wi the promotion o' Gaelic, files the Doric tongue gets little recognition.
Seriously though, and I'm in deadly earnest, your lectures should be obligatory at all assemblies in Scottish schools! What better start to the day. Scots folk should be able to watch "Trawlermen" without subtitles! I'm awa tae watch pairt fower aye noo.
Thanks for you comment', I also think that Doric should have more recognition' dont know about teaching it' but it should not be discouraged as it has been spoken hear for hundreds of years.
I used to get punished at school for speaking it' even to the point of being belted'. I also wish we had been tought Gaelic in our schools' insted of Frensh and German as our Family stems back to the Isle of Lewis! I would like to see more Doric on the TV as it is culturaly very strong!

I stumbled upon this, and showed my mom. She says you two were neighbours. My mom is Lesley Kerr. My aunts are Heather and Karen.
