  • I remember driving back from leaving our daughter at university. We were a bit subdued. This song came on the radio. My wife cracked up totally - and I had to stop the car. We were both wrecked! Fabulous song though, and when either of us hear it, it brings back that sad ,lonely journey home.

Now I worry that she might come BACK !!!

  • suzy is so beautiful, man

  • i like the song but the video is stupid

  • Nice song Suzy, but what is with the satellite dish on your head!?

  • i was in high school the 1 time i heard this one 1994

  • I'm a senior in high school this year and i cry every time I listen to this song

  • I never fully understood this song until I had children. 29 year old here with an 11 year old and an 8 year old. I was very young when this song came out. I always thought it was about a breakup.

  • it pain when u let it go

  • I REMEMBER THIS WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS A YOUNG GIRL-I ALWAYS KNEW THE DAY WOULD COME WHEN SHE WOULD BE ALL GROWN UP-THEY GROW UP WAY TOO FAST-THANKS FOR SHARING

  • enjoy them while their little, they grow up so Fast.....then you realize your raising them to fly away:,)

  • It'd be hard for me to let go of her!

  • now looking back she is beautiful\

  • I thought of this song this morning. I really thought it was about ending a relationship, but it's not. In a time of my life where I can stay in a dead end marriage, or leave, with no chance of ever having a family either way at this point. I spent my whole life waiting.

  • What an amazing voice, the voice of the angels.

  • I LOVE HER IN A HAT

  • It's funny how a song you knew before can suddenly take on special meaning in your life. I have a sister who will be getting married in a short time, and moving away. I think this song sums up the feelings my entire family is going through right now, and from now on, I'll surely remember this sad but exciting time in our lives every time I hear this beautiful performance of a beautiful song. Thank you, Suzy!

  • What a perfect voice. I think it is incredible every time I hear it.

  • Yeah, here I go again with another Senior year, done it before but this year its my last and imagine my surprise to hear this song and notice it was released the year before my son was born... Its never easy letting go...

  • I'm surprising my graduating sister Saturday and singing it to her at her graduation party :D

  • This song was released in 1992, the year nearly all of this year's high school seniors were either born or conceived. I've just posted it on my son's high school Facebook page and dedicated it to the parents (and all those who care for) those kids. (I personally thought Ms. Bogguss was striking in this video the first and only time I saw it (prior to yesterday here) in '94 - she made it big, for awhile at least, from Mercer County, Illinois.)

  • When I hear this song, it makes me think of my mom, but unlike most stories, I didn't move out at 18. My mom passed when I was 18, and this song reminds me of her. She didn't much care for Suzy, but I love her and this song!

  • Never thought anyone could look good in an Amish hat....boy was I wrong!

  • suzy makes that flat brimmed hat look good

  • i love this song it reminds me of when i turned 18 a week later i moved out, while packing i looked at mom and she was crying it broke my heart , funny how life turns out now i am the one who is crying i miss my mom so much, rest in peace mom

  • Suzy is the best! Thanks for the music!!

  • Im going to send this song to my sister in 5 years, on my now 13 year old niece's leaving for college day. she's never even heard of it, but she'll never forget it. :)

  • I agree w/Dontez1977. service 2God & Country including when this song=new prevented me f/BN Mr. Good-Dad so I missed out on BN there 4 the B.U.D.s & little girl until she went away 2 college. Lettin' Go=never ez. tears fall as I think of the time spent away f/them & how I had 2 let go.

nevertheless, this=my fave C&W song besides The Dance & I Hope You Dance. no dissin' C&W if the song=meaningful & not only about gettin drunk/laid.

  • I had two daughters who have grown and left home now. I always sang a third verse I wrote for all the daddies like me out there:

"Daddy works out in his garden

Had to find something to do

Had to hide his broken heart

His little girl grew up too soon"

  • This makes me think of my mother. I miss her so much. Makes me cry.

  • I cry everytime i hear this because im leaving for college in 19 days. and i can't believe im leaving my mom :(

  • this song makes me remember when i was 18 and left home for the first time got my own apartment i still remember my mom cried, this song makes me think of her its not easy letting go i had to let go of mom 4 years ago this february because of cancer i miss her every day, she was my best friend beautiful song thank you

  • How on earth could any one person "Dislike" Suzy Bogguss? As Chet Atkins rightfully stated, her voice "sparkles like crystal water"!

  • Suzy hit #6 in Billboard, 10-31-92. God bless!

  • I am a 33 yr old black male....and I loved this song back in the day. It just proves music can transcend race no matter the style.

  • @dontez1977 B.U.D. I feel U. I=stationed in TX & went 2 a country bar named Texas the 1st time I heard it & loved it ever since & not just because all the girls in the club asked me 2 dance 2 it, believe it or not. music can xscend race, time, age if done properly. I like this > most post-New Jack "hip-hop." in this wack age/auto-tone, I'll cross the trax 4 real voices like Suzy Bogguss.

  • I havent heard this song in years. I was thinking of my coworker, who started the same day as me over 3 years ago. She left Florida last Friday for Indiana, a million miles away. I'm sad, I miss her, but I'm happy she's moving on with her life. Maybe will see each other one day.

  • The delicate balance of the child gaining abilities and responsibilities, while the parent withdraws the amount of decision making and "protection" from the world of mistakes and pains. One dance of many in life. Beautiful and bittersweet.

The first time I heard this song, my oldest was going through adolescence. She is now 30, and my youngest is soon to be 16. They both have good heads on their shoulders and are responsible. They will always be my "babies". Always a favorite I sing or turn to

  • Thanks for posting, Suzy is one of my favorites

  • Wow. Thanks for all the meaningful personal posts on this song.

  • I'm an professional artist and left home to pursue that career, every time i hear that song I think of the day i took down my own artwork to leave for college.

  • Suzy Bogguss is very underrated. She's a highly skilled vocalist and a damn fine musician. Singers like Taylor Swift are not country at all. Her music is more like pop for teenage girls. She'll be forgotten like a lot of other "bubblegum pop" singers, within a few years. Artists like Suzy Bogguss will never be forgotten.

  • leaving for college friday. cried at this song right now :P

  • This one's for you Nora!!!!!

  • I'm moving my daughter to Austin today, so she can go to school down there. This is a killer. :( I HAVE had 18 years to get ready for this day, but the tears are still there. May God bless her and keep her safe.

  • Reminds me of when I dropped off our little girl at the frosh dorms at a Big 10 University for the first time. She was just a couple weeks short of being 18. After spending the day moving her in and making sure she was settled, we started the 200 mile drive home. As we got on the road leading away from campus she ran down the hill from her dorm to follow us and wave goodbye. This song began to play and my wife cried hysterically. It's never easy letting go.

  • I was going throw a divorce when this song came out, I got my girls and they were just lil' then,I know therewould come a day when I would have to let um go.

  • This reminds me of my Mom everytime I hear it, she still cries every year on my and my older Sister's birthdays, she has since we were eight, and I think she will until she dies.

  • This song came out the year my youngest was born. Now he's about to graduate high school and I can't listen to this song without tears streaming down my face. The entire focus of the last eighteen years has been to take care of my children and make sure they are safe, secure and happy. Now that journey is coming to an end and I don't know "shut off" that way of thinking. The next few weeks will be hard, but, I'm glad my son's made it and that he has a successful, fulfilling life.

  • @drlamajo1 ...I don't know how to "shut off"

  • same here.I can't wait to see her in march.here in Hutchinson Ks

  • @peugteobike hard letting go...letting her go home away from the pain

  • @peugteobike I honestly forgot bout her till AOL listed this song as one of the saddest songs in country. She was hella hot back then. Her, Chely Wright, Lila McCann, Faith Hill, and my baby LeAnn Rimes

  • brings back memories to when i was little :)
