  • He is so handsome :)

  • in some ways, liberals are worse than conservatives actually. You notice during 1940s and 1950s when these movies were made, you can imagine a lot of racist people. But now look at America today. You think it would improve by letting liberals take in charge, right? My ASS!

  • He sounds whiter then Tom Hanks lol

  • I have always loved James Shigeta!

  • Holy shit have things gone downhill. Hollywood these days is run by a bunch of creepy, insecure racists for consumption by a bunch of creepy, insecure, racist American consumers. Heck these people would rather sex up and glamorize some creepy serial killer white dude than ever give an Asian man even the slightest positive light, and they do. Again and again and again. It's only gonna get worse, folks. Let the USA sink and leave them to their sick ritualized hatred/disdain of the East.

  • @jczg08alt Go fuck yourself Jew. Replace everything you said with Jew and you'd be right. Whites don't control hollywood, or for that matter the US. Jews do. You dumb misinformed shit.

  • I love handsome, intelligent, and so well-mannered Japanese men with that air of true masculinity coupled with charm. They are always so irresistable and exotic <3 Much like Ken Watanabe, only in a vintage style.

When I saw The Crimson Kimono I just knew the girl couldn't help but falling in love with Shigeta's character. I'd fall in love with him too heheh (**p)

  • James Shigeta is a Nisei from Hawaii. He is one of the early actors with an Asian background and have roots in Hawaii. Others Asians like Kelly Hu, Keanu Reeves, Tia Carrere, and others making a mark on the American cinema.

  • Asian men are so dreamy I wish there were more American movies with them in romantic roles. :)

  • James Shigeta a popular and proud actor who knows what acting is all about it. The reason is that I have be his loyal fan.

  • @ 5:20 they're walking west on San Pedro St. in Little Tokyo, about the only thing still the same is the steeple of the Catholic church way in the background.

  • This is so truly wonderful

  • He joins James Mason, Ronald Coleman, Michael York, and James Earl Jones as the best male speaking voices in Hollywood. Warm timbre; mellifluous.

  • Chinese Cowboys

  • I'm looking to change the way Asian-American men are portrayed in Hollywood.

  • @mrtechnique How?

  • @Ascentist Through MMA and maybe some stand-up comedy. We don't have to walk around with our heads down and feel inferior.

  • i want to watch bridge to the sun except its nowhere to be found!! :(

  • Had he been white, he would have been another Rock Hudson or Burt Lancaster. Very talented and charismatic.

  • Yummy!!!!!!

  • Wow, he was well ahead of his time. In fact, even in 21st century Hollywood, no one has been able to match Shigeta's diverse roles.

  • seriously back then men were men... now almost everywhere you look, men are portrayed as weak and bumbling idiots. doesn't matter the race- lame white dorks, shy asian nerds, etc. Yeah, asian guys have it a bit tougher because there's not alot of positive role models in US media, so you guys got to just man up and then pay it forward. take some cues from James Shigeta. and be a man and be a role model to the next generation of guys, no excuses for whites or asians or blacks or whatever...

  • @hcmcsu It's just a phase. Our advertising and entertainment media spent a lot of time making women second-class, because men decided what movies to see and what stuff to buy. At least they thought they did! Now that it's more clear that women make most of the buying decisions in a relationship, the advertising and entertainment community is pandering to the egos of women, by portraying men as overgrown juveniles who would be helpless without a woman running their lives.

  • He got his brains splattered on the wall on DIE HARD! Woooooo

  • i dont know who James Shigeta this is my first time seeing him but this guy is a pimp! sheesh

  • Like the part he was going to translate to that white sailor.

  • American's hatred for Asian, esp. the men war after war. We have gone backwards in American cinema.

  • fuck yeah, that's my homie!

  • Love the clip from Crimson Kimono. Awesome to see that he worked with Pat Morita and Elvis

  • James Shigeta is the MAN!!

  • i love how 99% of these comments are positive!!! yay :)

just wondering, but how old are my fellow james shigeta fans?? im 17 :]

  • love this dude in die hard...he should get more lead roles some day haha

  • This guy should be the next James Bond!

  • FUCK YEAH JAMES SHIGETA

  • Very cool! Is there anyway for you to upload a higher quality version of this?

  • an amazing range of skills and talents shattering the myth of the Asian stereotypes. A fine addition to any film.

  • great actor, been a fan most of my life, watching him right now on "The Outer Limits" he's a great actor and singer

  • Crap, I just rated this 3 stars because I clicked by accident. I meant 5.

  • thanks, very well done.

  • James Shigeta is pure class

  • Thanks for posting this!! I've loved James Shigeta since I was a young girl and watching this now makes me nostalgic.

  • I love his voice. :)

  • Sigh.. If only there was a James Shigeta in today's movie industry. :(

  • I love the cut to the chopsticks, hahah.

nowadays though Asian American actors just go to Asia.

  • I fell in love with James in Crimson Kimono. Can I fall in love with an old man?

  • :50

"I wouldn't worry about it. Outside their politics they're harmless little people."

THANK GOD FOR BRUCE LEE. Nothing would've made that scene better than Lee kicking the dogshit out of that racist prick. The old lady too "saw her with one of them", bullshit.

James Shigeta rocks and I hope all of the old-Hollywood racist pricks are burning warmly in hell.

  • hollywood pretty much owned by the jews

  • A film producer once told James Shigeta "if you were white, I could make you a star". That simply how the Hollywood machine was, and in some ways still is.

  • Hollywood seems to be way more progressive than the British film Industry. Britain is supposed to be "multicultural" like the States. But there is hardly an Asian or non-white actor playing non-stereotypical roles. They only get to play ethnically specific characters in the UK.

At lease u have actors like Lucy Liu, Will Smith & Benicio Del Toro in Hollywood playing roles that are not necessarily stereotypically ethnic. There seems to be more freedom for non-white actors there than in the UK.

  • Thank you...for this lovely tribute. I am not Asian but I always appreciated how great James Shigeta was.

  • thank-you so much yellowstarx4 mr shigeta is so handsome so classy so talented

  • Hollywood is fucking racist! Fuck you bitch fucking gay hollywood!

  • A handsome, romantic asian leading man with charisma!!! How come this is never shown on screen anymore?

  • look up sessue hayakawa.

  • @MisterCool Jackie Chan? Chow Yun Fat? Toshiro Mifune? Sessue Hayakawa?

  • @diddymuck

You can add Rick Yune to your list. There are exceptions but how often do you see these exceptions in American films?

  • @MisterCool He was so handsome, sexy & brooding charming in Bridge to the Sun! He looks better with his hair slicked back & not parted.

  • I'm a dude and I'd totally pipe. No homo.

  • A lot of these racist studios today are run by Jews...how ironic. Hope that answers your question jarod

  • Nice classical movie! Thanks for sharing it here! ^_^ ~NH

  • James Shigeta is a great actor. I liked him in Lost Horizon and also Midway as Admiral Nagumo. Everything he does is great. He can sing too.

  • James Shigeta first caught my eye when I was a kid and saw Paradise Hawaiian Style, and found I liked him better then Elvis. Ever since then when ever I saw something of his, either new or old on tv, I always liked and enjoyed him.

  • I was just watching Flower Drum Song and part of another one of his films the other day on tv. He is very talanted and good looking and I think everyone reconized that no matter his race.

    I really enjoyed seeing this.

He has a great style, and the above post used the word elegance. I think that fits also.

  • Wow...I never thought the Hollywood really casted Asian man in romantic movies. Back then, it was almost taboo.

  • Look up Sessue Hayakawa. regarded as hollywood's first romantic leading man.

  • loved it, thanks for posting!

  • very brando like, i like it, handsome too

  • Wonderful tribute...James Shigeta is a terrific actor....and he's sooo very handsome as well....has always been one of my faves!!!

  • Thank you so much for this video. He has always been magnificent.

  • This is done so exceptionally well! No wonder James Shigeta wanted acopy for himself (smile). Thanks for wonderful tribute and memories.

  • His voice is AAAAAMMMMMMAAAAAZZZZIIIIINNNNGGGG. Something about classic actors. Doesn't matter the race, they were just...elegant.

    Shigeta, Poitier, Peck...just...elegant.

  • Love him. Love all his movies.

  • James Shigeta has seen this and is deeply moved. He asked me to copy it for him. Thank you from James for posting this.

  • he was hot.

  • aw his voice was so deep and he was very cute :) 50 years ago, i would've watched all his movies and fallen in love with him

  • I'm pretty baffled with these images because it was so soon after WWII and Korea.

  • This is HUGELY different from today. You almost never see a good looking Asian actor with a White female. Yes I do agree it is worst today in a lot of regards with portrayals of Asian men in Hollywood. Either you are a martial artist or you're some one extremely undesirable.

  • I KNOW! Can you just IMAGINE Tony Leung if Lust, Caution was a film with a White female? It would still be hot. Why? 'Cause it's TONY 'THE EYES' LEUNG!

Sadly, many never get the appeal until it hits them late. And despite the action, I was hit hard when House of Flying Daggers came out...Takeshi...yes please.

  • @renoplayer2351 Toshiro Mifune in Red Sun? Cow Yun Fat in Anna and the King?

  • A great underrated actor.

  • Shigeta is ace. Yes ironic these films have much more progressive roles for asian men than Hollywood does 50 years later.

  • thanks for posting this, Shigeta is great. I like "Bridge to the sun"

  • Thanks for posting this. We forget what a great actor Shigeta is.

  • very interesting. we need to bring this back.

  • Why can't more Asian American actors today play respectable roles like this man?

  • He sounds a few tads too manly but it's still cool.

  • How ironic that those older films were actually more progressive than the stereotypical crap we have nowadays. Liberals my ass. Now I would like to find those old Shigeta films.

  • The honor of the Dragon men MUST BE RESTORED!!!!

  • He is a true inspiration and hero.

  • James is "shigettin'" it!

  • Very Handsome!

  • Bringing sexy back, I see.

I would totally May-December this man.

  • shigeta is the man!
