  • Charming video and story, boopkid. I remember this cheerful song well from when it was out. I recall "The Mighty 910" WSBA in York always boosting the Pixies Three because they were from the area. I saw them perform in 1963 in Atlantic City, around the same time I saw performers like Randy and the Rainbows and Lesley Gore and Jan and Dean. Sweet memories of a happy time. Thank you so much for posting this with such style.

  • @speedy45rpm Your generous and kind post touched me. Thank You!

  • So many great songs! I saw them when I was 14 at Willow Grove Park outside Phila. Dick Clark presented them. They were great and I thought they were "hot" to use today's term!

  • Kate is my mom. Thanks do much for posting.

  • @stephkrebs Thank you for posting here. I am honored by your kind post. It was a pleasure to do it.

  • Man, I'd love to be at 442 Glenwood Ave..in '62, '63 and '64..!!!!

  • I lived in Gettysburg, just down the street from Hanover....

  • I must have played this song over 500 time's when it came out. I still have the 45

  • @163pete

You're lucky, mang. Was in the Army in W. Germany when this came out. That the only reason my never heard it until this summer. It's one of the 10 best of the entire decade.

  • then number 27 went to number 1 the rest is history

  • Bonnie was a close friend and neighbor growing up in Hanover Pa. They performed many times in our high school assemblies. Oh what fond memories!

  • Heard this today on Ted Alexanders 10,000 oldies show. Nice slice of girl group pop.

  • Such a great song! I always enjoyed playing it on an oldies' station I worked for, and it's super to hear - and see it - on YouTube!

  • having been from the area in which I grew up, we heard a lot of these girls on local radio......loved their sound then and still love it today...caught up with them back in their heyday at the Jersey Shore and they were very friendly girls...didn't act like they were hot shots...ty for the upload

  • I wish that I could live at this address 442 Glenwood Avenue

  • This is one of the classic girl groups songs of the 1960s. Thanks for posting it and your excellent slide show and write up.

  • I wrote a thank you note for the joy their two hits gave me and the lead singer responded with a very nice note. Such graceful ladies. Loved this song as one of faves of all times. Super songs.

  • @Jody07984 How does one communicate with these lovely ladies that gave us such great songs? Are their addresses available? As one who grew up loving their songs, I'd love to write to them...

  • @50Emerald I simply researched them on Wikipedia and then researched their names on FB. I would suggest you do the same. Or perhaps they are listed on FB by the group name, too.

  • fanfreekintastic!! Thanks for posting The great days of Brooks and JohnnyU

  • I hear this song all the time on XM Radio's "50s on 5" station.

  • "Goofy Eddie" is bringing his "ukulele". A small stringed instrument which (I think) originated in either Hawaii or the S. Pacific.

  • Great song....fabulous harmonies....lived in Gettysburg and was a big fan of these girls....thanks for the great memories!!!!

  • I would really like being invited to any party with the Pixies Three!! :D

    sorry for my english :)

  • I wonder if actual male classmates of The Pixies 3 were the inspiration for " Goofy Eddie " and " Groovy Freddy " , or just made up?

  • Cute song, can't complain about it, I love it!!!

  • Haven't heard this song in years!! Brings back many memories of the girl groups of the 1960's..thanks for posting..

  • I remember Miami very well.I lived on 441 7th ave..And the radio station WQAM 560 the tiger. I miss it alot...

  • When this song come out we was livin' at 8440 Norristown Drive.

  • I wish life was like this song.

  • It's a party ! dig the Pixies Three !

  • The matching hairdos and the dresses the girls display at 1:35 is the most fabulous look I've seen in weeks! I love it!

  • Thanks, we had a ukelele back in the early 70s; they are a nice instrument to develop musical ability with. It's possible Goofy Eddie liked Arthur Godfrey's show back in the ' 50s & took it up & it is part of the folk music of then new-state Hawaii.

  • Boopkid, I have tried but I can't catch what " Goofy Eddie " is bringing. If you know, please print it here. Thanks, Petemonster62.

  • @Petemonster62 his "ukelele"!

  • @Petemonster62 He's gonna bring his ukelele.

  • @Petemonster62

    He's bringing his ukelele.

  • @Petemonster62

    He's bringing his ukelele

  • @Petemonster62 His Ukelele!

  • I listen to this song about 6 times a day everyday now since I first heard it 2 weeks ago...it's really something else! I'm trying to learn the bassline now, it's a tough one! What a sound these ladies had - I'm struck by the quality of their matierial, compared with other girl groups that I'm hearing. thanks for such a great song, gals!

  • I remembered the song but for some reason had the street as Sandwood. I typed part of the lyrics in on a song search site and found the correct one. So glad the confusion is cleared up and I found the right song. Thanks for sharing.

  • Cool Video with the records, sleeves, posters, & photos! If only the girls couild have gotten national airplay in 1963!

  • @Petemonster62 They did . It was a hit in Cleveland, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan and probably NYC.

  • Who sang lead on this?

  • Midge Neel

  • Glenwood Ave had to be in Hanover Pa. Does anybody remember Bonnie being the excellent lead singer for the Chimes in the late 60s. Hanover, York and Gettysburg areas?

  • @rsumbury I lived in Gettysburg in the late 60's....went to Hanover a lot....in fact, worked at the Hanover PO for one summer back in 1992....

  • Yeah, great tune! I first heard it on a sallelite radio station out of AZ called Cool Gold. It was broadcast on the local AM station here. Good Post!

  • The Pixies Three were the quintessential girls next door. This is an innocent sound from an innocent time that is missed by all who lived through it.

  • @KnightVow -Very well said. Thanks.

  • @KnightVow Amen, KnightVow -- my memories of songs and crushes of the 60s are stunning -- I'm sixty and I never get tired of hearing the girl groups and their sexy sound...

  • Fun song , Bruce Bradley on WBZ from Boston used to play it .

Seems so innocent now but Viet Nam , drugs, the urban riots were all begining .

  • This is the first record I can ever remember owning or playing. It belonged to my brother, Russell, and I haven't listened to it in many, many years. I never thought I would hear it again, so, thanks for posting. It brings back many memories of a troubled time in my life, but I miss it so.

  • Sexy, feminine, energetic, doo-woppy, peerless harmony -- WONDERFUL!!

  • Hello from: Marc in south western Ohio / USA! Great music indeed! A++++++ Thank you for posting this great music! A+++ America is the best country in the world! America, love America or get out of my country NOW!

  • OMG !!!! One of my favorites !!!! There used to be a 442 Glenwood avenue in Flint, Michigan almost next door to a Chevrolet Factory (Chevy In The Hole)!!!! The factory is gone now but Glenwood Ave. is still there!!! I love this song!!!! TenStarsplus !!!! Thank you for posting it!!! I was 21 when it came out and it got a lot of air play here !!!!!!

  • There is (or was) a 442 Glenwood Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

  • Gee, those were some days! Thanks for posting this!!

  • Bless the Beatles, but their 1964 arrival essentially destroyed folk, bossa nova, most of the girl groups, and doo-wop...

  • Great song! unfortunelty, it came out too late. By early 1964 everybody focused on that Exciting new Band from England, The Beatles. Suddenly all american artists were yesterday's news. If only it was released a year earlier , the song would have done better. Talk of bad timming.

  • love this song

  • Glenwood Avenue in Windsor Ontario

My prom date lived on Glenwood Avenue

LOL not sure of here address LOL

  • Just a great old song,we are so lucky to have this sight and U Tube. Many Many Thanks !!

  • I loved this song from the moment I first heard it in 1964!!! I was 15 ... I bought the record that day and I still have it. I play it all the time.

  • Wow that's a great song, but that beat in the bass line is so lively it gets stuck in your head!

  • Comment removed

  • Such a great sound and the beat is infectuous. I remember listening to this in late 1963 and early 1964. Never tire of hearing it but don't hear it enough on oldies radio. It's too bad because whenever I hear it, I find myself singing to it. I have always thought singing to a record is the ultimate compliment a song can receive.

  • There *is* a Glenwood Avenue in west Toledo, Ohio, where I grew up, but I never did research if there is a 442!! Priceless song by a peerless girl group...

  • Thanks for Sharing this! Love this Song, plus the interesting bio. on the Pixies 3. Do you know how the Song title was chosen? Was it someone's actual address?

  • Just asked my dad... he said that as far as he knows its just the lyrics that were written for them.

BTW hes Bonnies big brother :)

  • Thanks for the info! I am sure there is a 442 Glenwood Avenue somewhere.........

  • Thanks for sharing this with us. It was from a wonderful time.

  • This is a wonderful, fun song and it's great to hear it again! I remember the song being very popular back in the day. It's a shame none of the oldies stations play it, at least not that I've heard.

  • @muttmutt541: Heard this on XM Radio, '50's Channel 5

  • @muttmutt541 WLNG out of Long island would probably play this. WHAS- Joe Donovan show has played this from 1980-1997. He had an overnight show that was a music history lesson.

  • I'll take all the '60s girl groups over the Beatles *any* day... Wonderful harmony, great energy -- Pixies Three, Angels, Chiffons, Ronettes, Martha and the Vandellas, etc.

  • my dad has wanted to hear this song again for a long time. thank you for putting it up so he can hear it again!

  • Excellent!!! Love it!

  • You just helped dredge up great memories!

    Thnx!

  • One of my favourites also. Thanks

  • That is a great song, thanks for the photo montage.

  • We saw these girls in concert & they were being filmed for a documentary. Does anybody know if they ever finished it?

  • One of the best songs from 1964, it should have smothered the Beatles, go figure.

  • WSBA in York, too...........

  • This was a number 1 song in Baltimore on TigerRadio1230 WITH

  • Does anyone know what or who was at 442 Glenwood Avenue, and in what town?

  • lived in Gettysburg...about 14 miles from these guys....in Hanover PA!!!! This is such a groovy song, baby!!!!

  • Use to hear this alot on oldies 96.1 out of York down here in Md. Not anymore since they changed their format. :-(

  • Too bad it got no higher than it did. Was a fun song--the feminine alternative to "Louie, Louie," which was near the top of the charts issued Saturday, January 18, 1964.

  • i notice there are four pixies three. is this a thompson twins thing or did one girl leave the group and then get replaced? i love these cute girl group 60's songs.

  • There were only three at any one time, as you mentioned one left and the other one joined in. Read my write up, upper right where it says (more info)to get a mini history of the group. Thanks for posting and for supporting the 60's girl groups.

  • I'll bet the telephone # at that residence was Beechwood 4-5789? Another, great catchy song!

  • Yes a great one by the Marvelettes. Thanks!

  • I think one of the Pixies Three is Pennsylvania Dutch.

  • Dearest primo....I am so touched, thank you for remembering. This song brings back so many lovely and wonderful memories. Just love those pictures of us. I´m sitting here grinning from ear to ear and taking a trip down memory lane....fabulous!

  • Dearest prima, so glad you liked them. Like the song they are windows to those sweet innocent days. Thanks.

  • When this song was released, I lived at 442 Halsey Avenue...so all the kids were singing this song but with my address. I was only...good grief 7 years old... Serg...your productions are as good if not better than the songs!! Your videos are the absolute best...thanks for the memories and all the hard work...

    Wayne in Texas...woooo whooooo

  • Amazing coincidence...What a neat story. Thanks for sharing.

  • Ah,my favorite song by the fabulous Pixies Three!

Another Super video from the boopkid.

Don't know how you do it,but they surely are great.

Gotta give this one a 5 star for sure!

    Wes

  • Wes, Mine too! Thanks!

  • That was a very, very difficult time for me. I have very few good memories of those years. But I did like this song. It's fun.

  • I know "hermanita"...Love ya,

    S

  • I don't remember this group at all. Fun music, but my mind must be starting to go.

  • I'm surprised given that you were in Miami at the time. Well, it's never too late to hear a good song.

  • Fun song! This was put on a very special mix CD for me several years ago! You just won't forget that address like Northern Californians also won't likely forget the (probabably now long gone) "Pete Ellis Dodge...1095 West El Camino Real, Sunnyvale" song from his commercial that said this over and over about 90 times! :-)

Great tribute and thanks for sharing all of their names!
