You got to love Joe's work ethic and drive, his thirst for guitar tone, and amazing ability to express it! He's right up there with Clapton and the best guitar players out there!
I fell for the fuzz face hype and bought one. I have to say i really dont like it at all, infact i cant use it now and thats with a '73 Les Paul through a Marshall. I wouldnt want to risk purchasing the Wah. Sounds great in the demo's -till you get one for yourself. Plus mine was cheaply made and the knobs all came loose and had to repair it myself.
Love joe's earlier material, a lot -but i find he is losing himself and sounding more like an Eric Johnson clone these days.
@Toraboramusic A craftsman does not use his tools as an excuse.
Joe is Joe. I think he makes the impossible look effortless. If you listen to his albums, you would hear his range. He plays everything from slide blues to country to Tom Waits. Eric Johnson is a great guitarist, but I have not seen him display that kind of range. Debating who is better is a fool's argument. Saying that Joe B. is an Eric J. clone shows a lack of familiarity with Joe B's work.
@saw4fire I agree. I was simply saying that my fuzz face isnt for me. it is not the 'voice' i wanted to produce. Great for some i am sure, but not for all, plus my FF was poorly constructed. NO comparison was made between Joe and EJ apart from their similarities. If you research Joe as i have, you will see a lot of folks think Joe is influenced heavily by Eric. Listen. I am a huge JB fan and have all his albums and seen him live many times. I, as you have an opinion- is that ok with you?
@saw4fire no offence, but you need to listen to more EJ if you dont think he has that amount of range. he's done blues, jazz rock fusion, solo acoustic, smooth jazz, ballads, hard rockers, country, vocal and instrumental and plays piano. listen to venus isle and listen to the musical landscapes he creates. eric is one of the best musicians i have ever heard and has a style that is pretty unique
@timmy47 venus isle is a work of art. Has to be his best material to date. A mate lent me the album years ago now and it took me to a different place. Mind blowing stuff!
@Toraboramusic not Joe B "fan" but I would figure using a Fuzz Face (especially one w/ silicon diodes) w/ a humbucker guitar & also a master volume amp not a good tonal idea- such a combination would sound like a mushy, grungey, oaty mess. Best tonal use of a FF is one w/ germanium PNP diodes, a guitar w/ single-coil/P-90 type pups & a cleaner non-MV amp like a plexi @ reasonably loud volume. Gets lots of dynamics & clarity... nice throaty roar @ even higher stage volumes...
@BillDerBerg thanks for your post. Well the plot thickens. I think you have a very good point there about using a FF through a non-MV amp as i do find if i use the FF through the clean channel of my JVM the sound is definetly better, (with all other drives off). One thing about the Joe B. FF is that it IS fitted with russian ex military germanium transistors, not the silicon ones. Ill have to try it with my Strat', having single coils -through the clean channel. Thanks again for your post!
@Toraboramusic ... you're welcome bro. ;) I must've gotten Joe B's Fuzz Face mixed up w/ Eric Johnson's signature FF, which has silicone diodes & *IMO* is not as much a Fuzz Face as it is a Big Muff w/ less "fuzz". ... 'GOOD' luck in your tone quest... :)
@8653011 ..well thats very interesting - i didnt know that. I should never have sold my Marshall 1987X Plexi non MV amp! Only got MV amps now, a TSL and JVM, although the JVM does have a very clean 'clean' channel
Joe could play $15.00 worth of yard sale crap and make it sound like angels singing, I would never begrudge the man ANY equipment but he IS that good!!
This man is laying down a body of work that is of the highest calibre, that people will be analysing and unravelling in years to come,,,, I believe he is the most important musician alive today. Time will reveal the importance of his canon.
Joe needs to Check out young Jake Haldenwang. I know a dream of this young prodigy would be to play with Joe. Check out him on Youtube. I too would love to see this happen for this young man! Jake has played with Buddy Guy and Many other notables!!!
Joe is the best that there is....He is cool, humble and works hard,,,and plays his heart out for the simple love of music,,,,a TRUE musician in every sense of the word.....Never stop playing Joe...
Joe Bonamassa is an absolute fucking champ. The first minute of this video is a testament to what the majority of those of us who have really listenend to him play already knew; that his music comes from a deeply personal and passionate place built on nothing but hard graft. His ascent through word of mouth (primarily) is no accident. Play on, my man, and educate the masses.
@chenjunhao I guess not on his tour, but at least he knows how to do it. He knows how his setup works because he designed it himself. Many famous and mostly younger guitarists today dont even know how to do that ;)
i have Zakk Wyldes wah, and its got a huge range! so much so i put guitar picks under it at that SWEET spot that i like..this one seems very interesting.....that Fuzz phase is sharp man..bet it sounds as good as it looks!..JB is so damn good he makes ya play by watchin the guy..same with Zakk makes you play man..
ordered the wah yesterday, can't believe I hadn't heard about it since it came out... it's got a buffer which is exactly what I need right now, and that sweep range... incredible (plus it's probably one of the classiest CryBaby's in history)
Joes wah is probaly my favourite wah sound. I'm so happy he finally got a siganture wah out. The fuzz personally i find meh though. I've heard comparisons to the regular silicon and actually prefered the silicon. But hot damn on that wah :)
