@alvarez5150 It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but it must have been sometime between when they first fled from El Guapo in Santo Poco and when they rested around the fire, sang Blue Shadows, etc. I remember Dusty asking, "How far did we go before we had to stop and ask for directions?" and Lucky answering, "Just three or four miles." And then Ned reviewed the instructions. So the people in Santo Poco were just messing with them out of disgust at their cowardice.
